    Scout Rifles

Oh great! You all sucked me in on this thread! I've been looking for an FR-8 online for sale for the last hour or so. I did find this guy's picture of a FR-8 Scout Rifle. It's at the very bottom of the thread. See what you think about it! Official "UGLY STICK" Thread - Sniper's Hide Forums BTW this rifle weights in at 7.5 lbs. Pretty light for a Milsurp! Now I'm also thinking about taking a Isaphore 2a that I have and making Scout out of it. Here is a picture of one a fella did. Looks really good! It's the second post down from the top. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=5131048 The problem I have with this one is replacing the existing site base with the scope. Again if something happens to the scope then you have no sites.

    Scout Rifles

I would think a Spanish Mauser a FR-7 or a FR-8 would make a dandy little Scout Rifle. They are fairly lite and compact. However they aren't that cheap anymore. Here is one I found on gunbroker.com. Check it out, if your not familiar with them. There is also one FR-7 there. You can search for it. The difference between the two is the FR-7 was built on the Mauser 93 action and the FR-8 was built on the M43 (Mauser 98) action and is much stronger. It's not recommended that you shoot .308 winchester through a FR-7, only 7.62x51 NATO because of the higher pressures in .308. 308 is just fine through the FR-8.

    Scout Rifles

I've always like the Scout concept, but for one thing. What do you do with a Scout Rifle if ever the scope gets busted up? Of course, that's the same question I use for ever non ironsited firearm too, not just the Scout Rifle. I also watched the video, and I think I'd rather have the original straight bolt on a Mosin Nagant instead of the bent bolt. I'd think it would handle a bit faster, which in my mind is the reason behind the whole Scout Rifle Concept.
  4. It is beautiful! I had the pleasure of shooting one that belongs to a cousin of mine up in Virginia! It wasn't an artillery though. Just had the standard barrel on it. Shot wonderful and felt wonderful in the hand! I'd love to have one sometime before I die!
  5. My son's Den Leader in Webolos, had a neat whistle at our last over weekend campout. This thing sounded like one of those air horns that use the can of compressed air, yet you blow it just like a whistle. It could be heard from quite a distance. I'll try to find out who the maker is.
  6. Mine has to be my HP 995 carbine for $225 plus an ATI Stock too. When I bought the rifle I also got a decent scope with it. That's the reason I paid what I paid. I also bought a Isaphore .308 enfield that has been sportarized. Got it for $85 several years ago.
  7. One and only time I ever ran into a rattler was up at Frozenhead State Park. A buddy and I were up there backpacking and came a cross one within a hundred yards of our next camping site. He was curled up on the trail and gave us about 10 yards of warning. He looked to be about 4 or 5 feet long. We stopped and waited for him to move on off the trail. I guess it took about 10 or so minutes. Seemed like and hour. But we decided we weren't going around him cause the trail was in the middle of a Trillium Patch and we couldn't see the ground under all the Trillium. I wouldn't have killed him. The way I looked at it was I was on HIS land not mine. Needless to say we did not camp at that spot. But went further up the trail.
  8. TGO David, I suspect you are fixing to get a lot of business! Wish you were closer to Knoxville! I got a couple of items I need to have coated. One of which just happens to also be a 870!
  9. My God! Everyone is building ARs these days!
  10. Please go to www.parade.com and vote in their poll, on softing gun restrictions. I just voted and right now it's 93% for easing gun restrictions and 7% not for easing gun restrictions. The poll is located about half way down on the left side.
  11. While I don't wish anyone ill will, I also won't ever be eating at The Sunset Grill owned by Mr. Rayburn, where ever it is.
  12. Picked up a S&W HRT folder at the gun show in knoxville a week or so back and I'm really beginning to like it. The only thing I hate about it is the blade is stainless steel instead of Carbon Steel. I typically don't think Stainless steel is the mark of a quality blade. Of course I paid a whopping $13 for it.
  13. I don't know about a Mini 14 stock, but I just installed a ATI stock on my Hi-Point Carbine and love it. I took it to the range for the first time today with the new stock and it much improved! The Stock is quality made and and easy to install.
  14. Actually, my dad has one. I've been thinking about trading him for it, even though it will be mine one of these days.
  15. Went to Gander Mountain at lunch today. Again there was a lack of pistol ammo. When you start looking at the lack of available ammo, a .22 sounds better and better. I looked for a used 10/22 this weekend at the gunshow, but saw nothing affordable. I guess I'll still stick with the Hi-Point Carbine for now.
  16. I not think the Democratic Leadership has changed. However I think in order for them to control both houses the Party had to move to the middle. Those Democrats that come from Red States were the ones that controlled the vote last week. I don't think for a moment, we are totally safe, but it could have been much worse. Of course there are Republicans that cannot be trusted as well (Lamar Alexander). My personal opinion is that both parties are full of vipers and Washington at some point should be cleaned out or we as a free nation are doomed. I trust neither party anymore. I vote now based on the character of each man and woman that is running. I guess that makes me an Independent, but the older I get the more in line my views are with the Liberatarian Party. Still I took encouragement from last weeks vote. I believe that if the Democratic leadership could have stopped that vote in some way they would have done so.
  17. I may try to go next this weekend. I need to zero the scope on the 995 and also try to zero another rifle. I'd love to meet you!
  18. I saw that one, but this wasn't it. This one had one of those yellowish, orange colored stocks and was in really good condition. It was probably a pretty good deal at $110. The other was an old warhorse that needed a lot of tender loving care, that I don't have time to provide. Never even asked the price on it. I think that was the only ones I saw.
  19. Well, maybe it wasn't a good price. $110 out the door.
  20. Didn't have a great deal of money to spend, so I upgraded a shotgun and a High-Point Carbine with new stocks from Ken Arnold's booth. He gave me a great deal! I was happy. Didn't seem to me many people were buying this afternoon. Come very close to picking up a Mosin M-44. Guy had a a decent price, but I was more interested in the stocks by that point. I went looking for a nice ruger 10/22, but didn't see any at a decent price. And like Mike .357, I came a way with a nice cheap knife. Got a Smith & Wesson H.R.T. for $13. A Buddy and my went in on two and got them both for $26. I got no free bandaids though, so I guess I got screwed... Not really, I was happy! It was a nice show.
  21. I went to the Expo Center Gun Show in Knoxville this afternoon and had a pleasent afternoon with a friend. Ended up stopping at Ken Arnold Combat Stocks & Accessories booth and purchasing a a new ATI stock for both my High-Point 995 Carbine and my 870. Then I spent the evening installing them. The one problem I seem to have is that my 15 round magazines don't seem to fit the Hi-Point anymore. Looks like the sleeve down on the bottom is going to have to be filed up a little. Believe that will be a job for tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem? I really like the way the Hi-Point looks with the ATI stock. Much cleaner in appearance! BTW Ken gave me a great deal on the accessories I purchased. It was much cheaper than going through mail order!!! Here is the web address for him. www.kenarnoldcsa.com.3
  22. I think everyone is missing the big point here. You all are concentrating on the right to carry in the national parks and that's great! But the real point to this, is the Anti-Gunners don't have the votes to stop Pro-Gun laws, little alone have the votes to PASS Anti-Gun Legislation. That is huge!!! You can thank the Red State Democrats for that! They stood up to the pressure from the national liberal leadership and voted for what is right! You can also thank the Republicans for continuing to stand by us! As for Lamar Alexander, it's looking more and more like he is not going to get my vote come the next election.

    What to Buy

Out of curiosty, why a CETME? Why not an Smith Enterprises M-14? BTW, I used to do what you, but with the Army Reserve. Best weekend duty I ever had! We also used to shoot Competition for the the 125th ARCOM. Clinton pretty much ended that though.
  24. If it were me, I'd save up some more doe and purchase a Ruger. I don't think would regret it.
