    WWII 1911 Question

Now a days it depends on what your job is. When I was in Desert Storm the surveyors all carried .45s. But since I was the supervisor I carried a M-16. if you performed a job that required two hands to do something or had to carry special equipment, you got a 1911, otherwise you carried a rifle.
  3. Scary bayonet! Those things are long. As fat as I am, I think they'd come out the other side! The one I had was 18" long and sharp as a razor even after being out in a garage for 50 years!!!
  4. I've never bought a firearm through Gunbroker, but I have gotten some good deals on parts I couldn't find anywhere else.
  5. Good to see I'm not the only Italian here. Of course, the closest I got was La Guardia for an hour or two on a 747 bound for Saudi. That was in 91'. They wouldn't let us off the plane, but I did get to see the statue of Liberty when we took off. Last sight I saw of the good ole US for 6 months.
  6. The punch was definitely not called for. Blount is a thug and he's getting what he deserves. An ESPN Analyst speculated that he was a 2nd or 3rd Draft Prospect. They also said this would definitely hurt his draft chances, but that someone would take a chance with him. Their probably right. Look at all the bad guys playing there now. Sounds like the Boise State Player is going to get real intimate with the steps at their stadium! I'd say it's going to be a long week for him. It was my experience that one never really wanted to catch the notice of the head coach in any kind of bad light.
  7. I think both players should be suspended. Some buddy's and me were watching this at lunch at a local eatry on ESPN. The guy from Boise wasn't all Mr. Innocent. He was taunting the Oregon player, before he got sucker punched. A Boise coach was trying to get him to stop when the punch came. That's the coach you see with his back to the camera. He just didn't get there in time. That clip above doesn't show the taunting. Boothe should get suspended for at least several games, if not the year. The Boise Player should be suspended for a game and be forced to watch the very embarassing video of what happens to smart A$$ players that taunt other players from opposing teams with their helmets off! What retards on both sides.
  8. I have one I've been generally happy with it. I've had no problems with it yet. I bought it from my boss. It's a post ban so it's got the fake flash suppressor on it and no bayonet lug. Shoots ok, nothing to write home about though. I'd like to change the sights out and put a national match rear and front blade on it. I would also like to change the bolt and operating rod too, but that's going to wait a bit. No funds at the present. $800 is a decent price. That's the low end on GunBroker. They are usually around a $1000 or higher there.
  9. WOW!!! Lucky you! Congratulations! Did he happen to bring it back from the war? That might ought to be a Family heirloom. I was told by an old friend that the Arisaka is one of the strongest actions ever made. He said a lot of magnum and wildcat rifles were built on Arisaka actions. Another reason there aren't a lot around anymore.
  10. No doubt that there is a certain white haired, loud mouthed, liberal leaning (OK, he ain't leaning anymore, he's fell completely over) who's initials are Chris... CM, on the tube at the time! ) I'll second what O Shoot said if you want someone to go with you. I could meet you next weekend (next Sunday, they are closed this weekend) over at John Sevier Range. I'd be glad to help you out.
  11. Nah, that doesn't sound weird! I think most of us thought that about Basic. Lord knows my lard butt needs to go back to Basic, though I'd probably kill over from a heart attack about an hour in!
  12. Congratulation! I wish I were back in your shoes again! One piece of advice though, if they ask for volunteers, they ain't talking the Tennessee kind. Stand at attention or keep those hands at parade rest or at ease! Good Luck!!!
  13. Back to canning. My Grandmother use to can meat as well as vegetables and fruit. One other nice thing about canning foods in the old Ball Jars. If the food goes bad, all you have to do is look at it and you'll know without opening it.
  14. I can only dream!
  15. Actually, I was one of those that was utterly disgusted by the crimes committed by the gang of thugs. I have followed this crime more than most people I happen to personally know. I thought Cobbins deserved the death penalty and had I been on the jury, I would have voted for his death. Does that make you feel a bit better about me? Not that it really matters. I took the article for it's face value and had no problem with Mr. McElroy's article. Sorry if that offended you. Again personally, I really don't care. Mr. McElroy expressed the opinion that blacks and whites came together and found a thug guilty and punished him from the among the options presented to them by the letter of the law. Again, I don't agree with the punishment, but this jury did what it was asked to do. Everyone in that court did their jobs, including a white defense attorney and a black district attorney. Something that would have never happened in this city 50 years ago. I believe that to be the point Mr. McElroy was making. So I'm really trying hard to understand how that was bad. As far as this being a hate crime, the State of Tennessee does not recognize Hate Crimes. Gary Christian pointed that out this morning on the Hallerin Hill Show. Neither does the Federal Government, though Eric Holder, our illustrous Attorney General is pushing for such legislation. Let's be real careful about what we wish for. Since the State does not recognize Hate Crimes, then it's sort of hard to prosecute someone for such a thing. Mr.McElroy also pointed out in his editoral that whites were involved with this crime, yet no charges have been filed. I personally would love to know why this hasn't happened yet, since one of them apparently helped these monsters escape. I also would personally like to see Mr. Boyd brought back to Knoxville to stand trial for the crimes he hasn't been charged with as well. I'd love to know what that hasn't happened yet as well. Having gone back and re-read the editorial for the third time, I'm also having a hard time where anyone was was apologizing for Cobbin's background. Mr. McElroy sure didn't bring it up. I see no purpose in some sort of witch hunt against those that don't BLINDLY FOLLOW my political views, therefore I don't castigate everyone that expresses a viewpoint different from my own. I fought in a war 18 years ago for this country, just so men like you and Mr. McElroy could espouse your points of view, even when I don't agree with them, and I'd gladly do it again. Just so happens I agree with Mr. McElroy on this particular article based on it's face value. That doesn't make me a "Liberal" or an Idiot with his head in the sand. In point of fact, I'm a FIRM believer in ALL the words written in our great Constitution and will continue to defended till I take my last breath. Again sorry to offend you, well not really, since you seemed to have no problem attacking me in your little diatribe. But I think you figured that out already. Have a nice night!
  16. Yeah, Colt still makes them. Of course they are so dang expensive, most people don't want to shoot them!
  17. I didn't quite see the "evil" intent of this article. I think the jest of it was the races came together to render a guilty verdict and a sentence. The writer did point out that there were whites involved on the periphery. That was the reason it probably wasn't treated as a hate crime. He also pointed out that a white lawyer defended the black defendent and a Black Lawyer was the prosecutor. Again pointing out the fact that race wasn't the big bugaboo factor the KKK tried to make it out to be two years ago. I didn't see the article as either conservative or liberal in nature. It was simply an article about how races came together to pass judgement.
  18. SO TRUE!!!
  19. GO VOLS! JEEZ! Who let all the Alabama fans out of the closet? Ya'll are going to be cryin' in a couple more years. Saban is going to leave sometime! Probably go to Florida when Urban takes off for South Bend!
  20. Nice pistol! You love it!!!
  21. In my mind, nothing. If you are worried about liability issues, then you should stick to base models. If your worried about survival, then get what you are the most comfortable with. Personally, my comfort level is quite low, as is my wallet. I'm very comfortable with my Colt Agent .38 if I feel the need to carry. If I feel I need something bigger for where I am going, I don't really need to be there.

  23. If your looking to kill lots of zombies or for HD then the Saiga is the way to go. If your looking to hunt or shoot clays, you might want to look at the Berretta Statesman available in the classifieds.

I like a Ruger as well. If you are looking for a cheap revolver, someone has a H&R 929 for sale in the classifieds that is a dandy! First pistol I ever shot was a 929 just like that one. Simple, reliable and accurate. It's a 9 shot too.
