The Government is another thing we should all consider. In case of a SHTF situation. You all know the Government is is going to clamp down with Marshall law like we saw in New Orleans. We all need to consider what we will do if that happens. We may not be as free to move around as we'd like to think. If your heading to a particular place, think about all the obstacles that are between you and where you are going. If there are check points, a vehicle might not be the best thing to get around in. Assume that the roads are blocked with national guard troops. Now how are you going to get there? Are there large creeks and rivers between you and where you are going? How do you get around them if it's the winter time? BTW, another good item that should go in a bug out kit is a small mirror with a hook or wire on it. Also a map book of the state of Tennessee. A book is smaller and stays together better than just a roll of maps. You might want one for each pack if you are in a group.

I have to agree with this. If it was TEOTWAWKI, you'll see people start eating each other in a month. I'd like to have a rifle or shotgun in my arsenal as well for my whole party.

Had C-Rats in Basic Training in 1982. They are nothing at all to write home about. The meat usually consisted of parts I wouldn't feed my dog. They were eatible, but barely. MREs were much better, and for some reason they never stopped me up. And I have ate three in a day before. They usually issued us two a day plus some sort of hot meal while in the field. It's nice to be in an Engineer Unit! That being said, I'm not sure MREs are the most economical way to go for survival food. Others have discussed stocking up on dry goods and cans and then rotating through them. You can purchase a lot of beans for one MRE package. MRE's are really good for sticking in a car trunk or a maybe four or five in your BUG.

We did have plenty of .45 in GW1. When we got to Ft. Bragg after activation, they immediately took all our rifles and pistols and worked them over. The 1911s came back looking about the same, but they sure shot a lot better. The armorers at Bragg really did a nice job tuning them up! I understand that they placed every slide in a vase right off and forced the rails in. Then they placed them back on the frame and then refitted them to match the frame! All the barrels were replaced, along with the springs and firing pins. They weren't much to look at with their WWII finishes and all the scratches, but they ran flawlessly. They might have been old, but we were proud to have them! They also worked our M16's over. I ended up with A2 hand guards on mine. It also got a new barrel. I had no problems with it either.

Just before I went to Desert Storm, I made the ARCOM Rifle Team and was issued my very on NM M-14. They made me turn it in when I got called up. Man, that was the rifle I wanted to take to the desert!!! I understand that now they are fixing up a lot of those old NM M-14 and reissuing them as sniper rifles. I believe the nomonclature is the M-21.

I was in a Reserve Engineering Battalion. The M9 hadn't filtered down that low at the time. Neither had M16A2s. Even some of the active duty units didn't have M9s yet. I fixed the grips on the Battalion Commander for the 54th Engr out of Ft. Carson, Co, when he came visiting our compound to coordinate a handover. He was still carrying a 1911 too. The 54th was a Regular Army unit.

Now a days it depends on what your job is. When I was in Desert Storm the surveyors all carried .45s. But since I was the supervisor I carried a M-16. if you performed a job that required two hands to do something or had to carry special equipment, you got a 1911, otherwise you carried a rifle.

Scary bayonet! Those things are long. As fat as I am, I think they'd come out the other side! The one I had was 18" long and sharp as a razor even after being out in a garage for 50 years!!!

I've never bought a firearm through Gunbroker, but I have gotten some good deals on parts I couldn't find anywhere else.

The punch was definitely not called for. Blount is a thug and he's getting what he deserves. An ESPN Analyst speculated that he was a 2nd or 3rd Draft Prospect. I think both players should be suspended. Some buddy's and me were watching this at lunch at a local eatry on ESPN. The guy from Boise wasn't all Mr. Innocent. He was taunting the Oregon player, before he got sucker punched. A Boise coach was trying to get him to stop when the punch came. That's the coach you see with his back to the camera. He just didn't get there in time. That clip above doesn't show the taunting. Boothe should get suspended for at least several games, if not the year. The Boise Player should be suspended for a game and be forced to watch the very embarassing video of what happens to smart A$$ players that taunt other players from opposing teams with their helmets off! What retards on both sides.

I have one I've been generally happy with it. I've had no problems with it yet. I bought it from my boss. It's a post ban so it's got the fake flash suppressor on it and no bayonet lug. Shoots ok, nothing to write home about though. I'd like to change the sights out and put a national match rear and front blade on it. I would also like to change the bolt and operating rod too, but that's going to wait a bit. No funds at the present. $800 is a decent price. That's the low end on GunBroker. They are usually around a $1000 or higher there.

I was told by an old friend that the Arisaka is one of the strongest actions ever made. He said a lot of magnum and wildcat rifles were built on Arisaka actions. Another reason there aren't a lot around anymore.

Back to canning. My Grandmother use to can meat as well as vegetables and fruit. One other nice thing about canning foods in the old Ball Jars. If the food goes bad, all you have to do is look at it and you'll know without opening it.
