  1. The problem with M1As is the magazines are getting to be hugely expensive. A good mag costs upwards of $45-$50. You can get crap for around $25, but that's exactly what you get. CRAP! Not to mention the cost of any work you want done to it. Parts are really expensive too. An Op rod will go $200 plus. New barrel, $200 plus, etc, etc. Not many people are all that good at working on them anymore either. If it were me, I'd go with an AR platform or maybe even a Saiga in .308 if cost were a problem. Plenty of stuff to be had that can be added to it and it's an AK with AK dependability. Not as accurate as a AR, but accurate enough for hunting or a SHTF scenario.
  2. I love colts. The guy I bought it from a long time ago was a postal inspector and this was his BUG. He's the one that told me about my pistol really liking the Nyclads. Sadly they are hard to find now. I still have a box. He carried it in an ankle holster. The Agent only weights in at 16oz. Part of the bluing has worn off over the years, but the timing and lock up are perfect. And like all Colts, it has a awesome trigger. This little gun is really my primary defense gun at home.
  3. Oh too bad! That was a good deal!
  4. Oops! I think it was 70Below that got the CZ! Anyway, did it show up out at the range? Sorry about that OhShoot!
  5. I thought they were design at almost the same time. The SKS was not the main Russian Front line weapon for very long. Maybe less than 5 years before it was replaced by the AK-47. Then the Russians turned almost all the SKS's over to their satellite states. Later on they started sending them Aks. The SKS was never a very prominent weapon. That's not to say they were aren't any good. Just that they were pretty much obsolete when they were adopted. Mostly because of of their lack of a removable magazine.
  6. They tend to blow up with modern shells. The barrels aren't very strong.
  7. Dang! Why don't I ever run into deals like that!!! I have a 2nd Gen Colt Agent. You are in for a treat at the range! Those a great little pistols! They are every bit as accurate as you are with good ammunition. Mine likes Nyclads. Just about all Colts have great triggers! Congrats!
  8. I didn't want to hear that. Now I'll be kicking myself in the butt for not buying it. I thought about buying the Bearcat, but I already have a colt peacemaker with a 6 1/2" barrel. It's a great little single action too. Just didn't need another. I also saw that Oh Shoot bought the CZ82. Don't suppose it got shot any...
  9. So how did the Bearcat shoot?
  10. Wii's are cool! Best game system we own. Gets used the most too!

    Snow

We had about 2 inches here in Knoxville. Kids have already been out and played in it and are back in drinking hot chocolate. Needless to say there is no more snow in our front yard. Love the quietness that comes with snow!
  12. For what those guys are doing though, I think a shotgun is a great weapon. Far superior to a pistol without having to worry about how many walls the missed shoot is going to penetrate. I tend to prefer a regular stock though. Easier to aim with than a pistol grip. Doesn't look as cool though.
  13. I was in Coal Creek Armory, in Knoxville, this afternoon and they have a M-44. I looked hard, but I didn't see any gold on it. No silver either. Just blue steel and orange wood. It didn't do any fancy tricks. As a matter of fact, it didn't even move. Looked kind of boring. I tried hard to figure why it was $330, for about a minute and then I moved on.
  14. Removed to another area where the comment was more pertinent.

    Good Day!

    That's funny!
  16. Did the leaf thing last weekend. Went to the show today. So far the neighbors leaves are staying in their yard. Hope it stays that way! And we know you were joking about the gun stuff.
  17. The Tennessee Kentucky Post Game Show of course!
  18. Ok, blowing leaves or going to the gun show... blowing leaves or going to the gun show... I don't get it! That's a no brainer! A Bad Gun Show is better than blowing leaves any day of the week!
  19. Most of the tables were full. SKS's were running $250 and up. Saw AKs for less than $500. Cheapest AR I saw was $700 for a lite model (the ones with no sites). There was a table that had Mosin 91/30's for $129. Pistol wise, I saw nothing of interest. Sold what I came to sell and went home with nothing, but money.
  20. Saw AK's under $500 at the Show here in Knoxville today. SKS's were anywhere from $250 up to $400. Almost bought an AK74 with two of the bakelite mags and 400 rounds of ammo for $600. Just didn't know if that was a good deal or not. I don't know a lot about AK74s.
  21. This thread is worthless without pictures! Wish I could, but I will be working tomorrow, even though it's a holiday for my company. We got a bad deadline to make next week. Congrats on your purchase though! The SKS is a great rifle!
  22. It's an Enfield No. 2 Mk 1. The bobbed hammer tells me it's a tanker model. They bobbed the hammers so they wouldn't get snagged inside of the tank. It was the main British combat pistol during WWII and remained in service until the early 60's. I haven't a clue what it's worth. I found some on Gunbroker.com though. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=147726301 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=147957810 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=148101919 There were probably more, but that was all I cared to look at. Yours looks to be in a bit better shape than these and the cheapest one was $290. I find Gunbroker.com to be a little high on most things though. Congrats on a cool pistol that might have some cool history behind it!
  23. Turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, rolls cranberry sauce and gravy. We had sweet potato pie and lemon pie for dessert.
  24. And Mike's slapping you on the beHIND!
  25. Once you hit 45 the brain is the first thing to go. I'm waiting on the lower parts to go now. Reckon then I'll have to start taking the little blue pill. Fortunately, that's not happened yet. The brain is shot though!
