  1. Built a Saiga. Great gun, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort to build a rifle for as cheap as AKs are now, already put together.
  2. I've never fired a Dan Wesson, but I have a friend of mine that has a SS .357 mag. He put a 6 in barrel on it and then he and another friend had a shoot off with the other guy's Colt Python. Each taking a turn with both pistols. The Dan Wesson which he bought at the time for $350 out shot the Python for both of them. Dan Wesson made a fantastic revolver! Sad to see that they are no longer made.
  3. I fall into the .38 spl category myself. I have a Colt Agent that I care when I feel like the situation might warrant it, which is rarely. It's light (16 oz), accurate and it holds 6 rounds that go bang every time. It also has a smooth as glass trigger. The reason I favor a .38 is I've never fired a .380acp (or 9mm short or what ever you want to call it) I liked, including a Sig P230 that I owed for a couple of year. It was possibly the most unpleasant pistol I've ever shot. It was accurate and reliable and horrible and I hated it. Outside of the Sig, I never found another .380 that I though was reliable enough to stake my life on.
  4. Colt may not make them anymore, but there are still Colts to be had. So hands down it's still a Colt straight out of the box.
  5. It might bring the cost down on the Saiga 12ga. They are higher than a cats back!
  6. Keep it! That's one of the all time classic shotguns! You'll regret it if you do.

    44 special

The Bulldog is a pistol that's on my want list, with a 3 inch barrel. I prefer small revolvers to small automatics.

    Decided on a 1911

Great pistol! I've had one for about 3 years no and no problems what so ever. Mine's stainless.
  9. Sue was nice! The cats scared me!
  10. Hear Orgeron is telling the early enrollee's not to go to class tomorrow. This couldn't have come at a worse time. I hope California slides off into the ocean next week!
  11. Volquest is reporting that the Tennessee job has been offered to Muschamp at Texas.
  12. The ones I have on my Saiga are stamped with Made in USA or USA.
  13. I love that little one too! Need to get mine back out and shoot it too! Never enough time in the month to do all I want to do. I have a new to me Chinese Mosin Nagant M44 that need to make a man out of me too!
  14. Actually, I believe we are both wrong about the top one. I think it's a Colt 1851 Navy Sheriff. They are produced in .44 with a brass frame. Pistol is second from the bottom here. http://www.iar-arms.com/modelblkpwdrearly.htm The Cylinder is stepped near the middle on both pistols and it was bothering me. The 1849 isn't stepped like that. It's probably done for greater cylinder strength.
  15. You got a great deal for the $20! Those pistols are at the cheapest worth $150 a piece. Actually they are worth more than that. I'm just being conservative. Now that is assuming they are in good shape. These are replicas and the pietta is made in Italy. I suspect that the other one is also made in Italy as well. The one on top is a brass framed reproduction of a Colt 1849 Pocket Pistol. The one on the bottom one is a Colt 1860 .44. It was the primary sidearm of the Union Army during the Civil War. Go here and look them up. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Browse.aspx?Cat=2324

    Great Deal!

I haven't got a clue about how many they had. I was shocked at the price. Would have bought one, but we spent a lot of money at Christmas and are saving for a vacation in March. If I were you all, I'd call before I went up there. There were a ton of people there and in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Sevierville Area in general. There might not be any left. While I was in there a fella bought one of those Remy ARs for about $300 cheaper than any where else he could buy it. That was his exact words. He was quite happy about it too!

    Great Deal!

    J. Floyd's in Sevierville had IO AK-47 with wooden stocks for $299.99 plus Taxs and TICS. Best deal I've seen!

    Impartial

I had one of those cheap chinese knock-off .45acps. It was made by Norinco. Great Pistol. It got stolen about 4 years ago and I still miss it. I like cheap guns that are functional. I'm not one to keep up with the Jones. And personally, I think the .45 is more accurate than a 9mm, but not by much. I think the accuracy thing is because they are harder to handle.
  19. I was almost in your position last year. I'm a Civil CADD Designer with 20+ years of experience. I was working for a firm in the Sevierville area and they had to cut hours and lay people off. I got my hours cut, but survived two different layoff. Then I lucked into another job and left. I continue to do CADD Designer work, but I got on with a good company and we have plenty of work. Just no openings at the moment. I keep my ears open for positions in the Civil world here in Knoxville, but there aren't any at the moment. Keep your head up and take a job in whatever comes along. Call Friends and acquaintances. They may know of some job openings. Also check on Craigslist. I know a couple of people that have picked jobs in the engineering field through there, locally. Good luck!!!

    922r confusion

I stand corrected. It's a rather confusing law. When I used the Wiki that was linked previously, it showed that I needed to add 5 parts total as the pistol grip does not count since the Saiga is not equipped with a pistol grip to begin with. Now the Wiki is down. I've gone to the Saiga website to see if someone there can get it back up. Honestly, those guys know this law inside and out and are the best source for those tyoe questions.

    922r confusion

When you buy your American made SUREFIRE Magazines (3 parts) (don't bother with Pro-Mags, your pissing your money away), you still must change out 2 more parts. The easiest part to change out is the hand guard (just one screw) and the stock (Tapco makes a stock for the Saiga with a pistol grip already attached) (three screws). You can also change out the gas piston, but you need a small punch and hammer to do the job. I don't believe you will be able to change out the trigger group as most, if not all the replacement sets I've seen are for a forward pistol grip conversion. If you decide to use any other FOREIGN made hi cap mag, then you must also change out 5 other parts. And your pretty much going to have to move add a pistol grip and move it forward on the receiver in order to comply with 922R. In that case you could go ahead and change out the trigger group which counts as three parts and then add a new pistol grip and stock. Each of those counts one. Basically your changing the rifle back to what it was originally meant to be, a AK47. There is some work involved with that. But there are some great aids on the internet for doing the conversion. One guy has filmed the entire process and placed it on YouTube. Saiga12.com is another TERRIFIC source of information. Join that site, even if you decide not to fool with the conversion. One other thing you need to do if your going to use any other mag but a Saiga or Surefire, is drill and tap the trunnion (part of the receiver where the barrel is attached, just in front of the chamber) and attach a bullet guide. Guy by the name of Danzig makes these. You can find a link to his website over at Saiga12.com. As stated previouly, Saiga and Surefire Mags have the bullet guides attached to them. I started the process for moving my pistol grip forward this afternoon. The reason I decided to do it was because my rifle came with 7 Galil 35 round mags when I bought it and I like them. My Saiga is a .223. So far it's not been hard, but I'm early in the process. Personally, I'm not sure all this work is worth it, but I'm invested now. It would have probably been cheaper to purchase a new WASR Or IO AK for a hundred dollars more. But I also know I'm going to come out on the other end, knowing this rifle forwards and backwards. And it's keeping me occupied. One more thing, I went to Coal Creek Armory and they wanted $650 dollars to change everything out. I almost choked. Just to install the pistol grip and replace the trigger assembly was going to run $250! Still trying to figure out why replacing a buttstock and foregrip costs another $400 though. Just about any moron can do that. Someone linked that checklist for Saiga Conversion. That's a great little tool in determining what you need to do.
  22. I like Randy's Gun Shop in Fountain City, JFloyd's in Sevierville and Sevierville Indoor Shooting Range. He sales guns there. All three are good people to deal with. Of those three J Floyd's has the best selection, followed by Randy's and the Sevierville Indoor Shooting Range. I don't much care for Coal Creek. They aren't the friendliest of people and the selection really isn't that good. Avoid Gander Mountain and Bass Pro unless they are running an sale on something you like. They are really proud of their stuff. I need to get to Maryville and check out Gunny's.

    What are these?

I thought someone was making a knock off of the Browning. Seems like it was coming out of Brazil. That's a great little .22, BTW. It's also a nice little collection. Would be something to purchase from your MiL and pass on to a son or grandson... or to someone, say, LIKE ME! I'd love to have all of them!
  24. I have a little Onion and I love mine! My daughter found in a gravel parking lot 3 years ago in Lake Junaluska, NC and gave it to me. Been carrying it everyday since and I too constantly open and close it! Wonderful little knife!
  25. You could buy a cutter and thread the barrel yourself. If you go over to Saiga12.com, there are some guys that have a how too for barrel threading. Doesn't look that hard. Then you can but whatever brake or flash suppresser on you want. Of course, hard is a funny thing to pin down. I'm still trying to get my courage up to convert my Saiga .223 over right now. Finally got all the parts and tools. It doesn't look hard either. Just need to grow a pair and get'er done!
