I had a 9mm Carbine. It was a good rifle as long as I was using Hi-point Mags. I bough after market mags and they were junk. Really fun to shot. Saidly I needed the money and I sold it. Regret it now. I'll buy another one. Thought about buying a pistol because of some of the review/reports here, but they are just too danged ugly. I suppose I will breakdown one of these days and purchase one though.

Need advice on a knife for a retirement gift
Moped replied to Trekbike's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
The Buck 110 is a very good choice! Or perhaps you could purchase him a really nice Case Pocket Knife. Smoky Mountain Knife Works has a huge Case selection. You might peruse their site or even take a visit to their store in Sevierville! -
Actually one of the cheapest and well built 9mm out there is the Ruger P89. I think there is one in the classified section that is up for sale for less than $300. They are not small, but they fit the hand nicely, go bang every time, and are not finicky about ammo. It would be a good first time 9mm. Here is the link. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/firearms-classifieds/57664-f-s-4-pistols-2-rifles-2-shotguns-sale-individually.html Another "Fun" pistol to take a look at is the Ruger Convertible Blackhawk in .357 and 9mm. I know it's not tacticool, but it goes bang every time and is super reliable! The con is it's a little slow to reload. I'd love to have one!

A month or so back, I picked up a 4" High Standard Deluxe Sentinel. I love it so far. I don't think I own a pistol that's more comfortable in my hand. Don't discount the older used guns. Hard to wear out a .22.

Got a Saiga .223. Picked mine up from a member here. Did the conversion myself. Total cost was $525. I got 7 35 round mags in the initial purchase. Then I started figuring out the configuration I wanted. Once I did that, I started looking online for the USA made parts that I needed. That took a week or two, too figure out where I could find them the cheapest. Then I ordered and started the conversion. It took me two evenings to finish the conversion and I've never done this type of thing before. I followed some videos I found on Youtube. They could have been better, but the base knowledge was there. I'm every happy with the outcome. So far after several hundred rounds I've had zero malfunctions and the accuracy is as good as any of the M16's I used the in the army, back in the day. The AK is a super simple weapon!

No way that pistol is only worth $350! I'd say double that!

The Confederacy lost one of it's greatest Generals in that battle, Patrick Cleburne.

Cool knife and a cool thread! Hand that down to a family member and start a tradition!

I think the State Park near Crossville is Cumberland Mountain State Parik. I was with my Boy Scout Trooper there this weekend doing an over night back pack hike. Beautiful place! Another place to check out is Bandy Creek Campground at Big South Fork, west of Onieda. Wonderful place with lots of hiking nice campground too!

ETO is starting to carry some Mil Surp stuff too. Mostly packs and such.

I met Sam some weeks back looking for a back pack for my son. Seemed like a great guy! We didn't linger to look at knives. Now I know I should have. Mora knives are the best bang for the buck in knifedom. They usually start online at $9 and go up. They are the quintessential bushcraft knife. I have three of them. No. 1, a 780 (discontinued) and a 511 that was found in a dumpster in Norway and modded by a friend of mine. I use it primarily as craft knife It's super handy. He also sent me a new 511 which I gave to my son on his 12th birthday. All four knifes together might weight a pound. Great for backpacking! My total out of pocket cost on the two knives I bought was $28, shipped from ragweedforge.com. I also have a Condor Medium Bushcraft that I love. Lately, I've gone Old School with my knives. I've started buying slip joints again. My two latest are a Kissing Krane Large Brown Mule ($11.99 at Star Sales on Central Ave.) with a carbon steel blade and a Rough Rider Utility (Scout/camp folder) ($12.99 at SMKW in Sevierville). Rough Riders are another knife that has great quality for a low price.

I'd shoot it and in the fall I'd hunt with it if I had the time!

This sounds really fishy to me too. I'd call the main office down there and let them know what is going on.

I used to think the grips would be uncomfortable. To my eye they just didn't look right, but I got to handle one about 6 months ago and it was very comfortable to my surprise. I wish I could afford one, but it will be a while unless I sell something.
-
That's a nice find! Congratulations!

You really don't need a lot of tools or a shop. I really advise checking out the conversion process online. I did mine myself. Had ball doing it and learned a lot about the AK and Siaga. You will know that rifle inside and out. BTW, I'd never done anything like this before. My respect for the AK grew multiple times after seeing how simple a design it is!

Rumor mill confirmed Ruger SR1911 released today!
Moped replied to Mad_Squirrell's topic in Handguns
Not bad looking and at a decent price. I'm sure it's a good piece. Ruger doesn't make junk. -
They are all gas bags as far as I'm concerned. Matters not, if they are on the right or the left.
-
A Mora No. 1, No.2 or 511 makes a good neck knife, if you aren't trying to hid it. They are very light and give you a full sized handle. You also won't find a sharper knife IMO. Price is right too. None of those cost more than $10 + shipping over the internet. One place I know does $6 shipping for up to 6 knives. Can't beat that with a stick! Ragweed Forge MK, that Tenacious is a nice looking folder!

The book was by Nevil Shute and had the same title. I read it and then found out it was a movie. Here is the Amazon link. Amazon.com: On the Beach: Nevil Shute: Books I also read Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank at much the same time. I actually liked this better than On the Beach, which was darker and bellicose. Lucifer's Hammer was one of my favorites and like One Second After, really makes you think about what you need to survive and what is needed to save civilization as we know it. Lets just say that if TEOTWAWKI was to ever happen, one of my salvage runs will be to as many libraries as I can find to save as many books as I possibly can. In that situation, knowledge is going to extremely important. Maybe not at the beginning, but once everyone gets back on their feet it will be priceless.

The book as always was better. But that was a good movie. Didn't much are for the remake. Came out several years ago. Saw it on TV.

Well, no one is talking about AKs, so i will. I picked up a Saiga and then did a 922R Compliant Mod on it. They are great rifles and come out of the same factory in the Motherland as the Military AKs. So that is one option. The nice thing about doing a Saiga is you will know the rifle inside and out when you get done. Costs on these are going up, though. Arsenal probably makes the best AK on the market today. If you don't want to build one, that's probably the way to go.

Great job! I kinda like the rough finish on the Colt. Looks cool! The big thing is not necessarily what it looks like, but how it functions and shoots!

The same thing can happen to a well has happens to a waterline in an earthquake. Also you need a generator to run the pump in order to get water.

Steps to keep mentally ill from buying guns
Moped replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If we truly had a mental heath system in this country, that could actually make a report on someone, I'd be for a background check for this, but we don't even recognize mental issues in this country unless it has something to do with gun control or suppressing someone's ability to do something.
