  1. Hey, you never know. Sometimes family members like to pass down valuable things to their younger family members. I ended up with a Belgium Browning A5 that what when I was 12. It was given to me by my Uncle who had no kids of his own. It was my Grandfather's shotgun. It will eventually go to my son one of these days.
  2. I wouldn't worry to much about it either. It's not like you can't reprofile it and if it's sharp and cuts who cares. It's not like it's a collector knife.
  3. That's the one!!!
  4. Actually the Ulster BSA Pocket knife is probably worth about $20 to $30. At least that's what they seem to be going for on EBAY. There is also one Coke Cola Knife on EBAY that has 22 hours to go and it's at $6.50 with 7 bids and another with a Buy It Now price of $25. You might try researching them there first. It will give you a general idea of what they are worth. The knife made in Pakistan isn't worth anything.
  5. My understanding is comparing a 91/30 to a M-39 is on par to comparing a Chevette to a Cadallic. They are supposed to be that much better. The Finnish Mosins were used in the 1920s and 30's in the Olyimpics and they brought home Gold, I do believe. I would love to have one of those, but they aren't cheap to come by. Some do not require an FFL, because their receivers were built before the turn of the 20th century.
  6. You are correct and I was wrong. I thought the Eskabar was the only Stainless steel blade Becker ever made! That's good to know, because I snarled my nose up at it. I'm very tempted to run to SMKWs and get one of these now!
  7. My favorite makers are Helle and Mora for fixed blades (I love Scandinavian blades) and Opinel, Victorinox, Bear and Sons and Rough Rider for folders. I also like old Cases, Schrades and Camillus. Don't much care for their newer stuff. I used to be into the tacticool folders like Kershaws (good knives!) and CRKTs, but they just don't interest me anymore. If I were going to buy something like that, I'd probably go for a Dozier.
  8. Thanks for the reviews! Glad you got some good knives. Condor listened to the criticisms of it users when it revamped the Bushlore. One of their chief designers is a member at BushcraftUSA and he got an earful. He took it back to the company and they changed most of the major things. I think it's a great value for what you get with it now. Not sure there is a more inexpensive full tang knife out there unless you go buy an Old Hickory and modify it, then make it a new pair of pants to wear. When I bought my Condore Medium Bushcraft a year ago, they were still making the old version, which after holding it for a few minutes I hated. Felt and handled like a short sharpened crowbar. I went with the Bushcraft instead. That little Eskobar is probably going to end up being your go to woods knife. It's really hard to beat a Becker! The one thing I didn't like about it is it's stainless and I prefer carbon steel if I can get it. That's why if I buy a Becker, it will probably be a BK11. I like the fact that the BK11 can also open beer bottles as well! That's an ideal package!!!
  9. Well put! And the rest of the quote is right on too!
  10. That's a really nice knife! Stroud is the real deal. I like BG, but he takes way to many stupid risks on his show that a normal sane person never would. Helle smokes Gerber, IMO, in fit, finish and looks. They aren't all tacticool, like Gerber is and none of those serrations, which really turn me off. I really like my Odel, but I'd love to have a Helle Viking!
  11. Hey BKelm18, have you looked at Helle Knives on Amazon? They are fantastic blades! I have a Helle Odel that I love and is my go too woods knife. Helle is a much upscaled Mora! There are some in your price range. Specifically he Tolleniv and the Folkekiven. You might want to check them out. If you can squeeze out a few more pennies, I recommend the Helle Viking, but it is $80.
  12. Becker makes scales for the BK11. They are usually around $30 or so. Lots of people just wrap them with 550 paracord, but I prefer scales myself. I also like the Becker stripped down. I hate that coating they put on them. I've read that Condor is doing a much better job at the fit and finish of their blades. Of course, you got to remember they are a cheap knife to begin with and that means they are probably not going to be perfect. As for sharpening them, I've found that wet/dry sand paper like you find at the Auto Parts Store and a mouse pad will sharpen just about anything up pretty quickly. I have an older Condor Brushcraft that was a bit of a bear to sharpen, until I tried the sandpaper and then it was no problem. I convexed it. Another reason I like Moras so well is they are inexpensive and sharp as hell right out of the box. The sheaths are they're downfall, but with a little search of YouTube or a perusal of Ragweed Forge you can learn how to make a dandy sheath for them out of leather. I've also seen some videos where they mod the sheaths to hold fire steels and other items. I took my No.1 and turned it into a neck knife using the original sheath.
  13. I'd go with the Becker BK11. I really like Mora's for the price. Some of the sheaths like the ones that come with the Triflex and HQ models are easily modified to be really handy. The quality on the Condor knives has greatly increased over the last year. Of course, the first thing I would do with it if it were mine is convex the edge any way. I've never bought a knife that I didn't have to sharpen when I got it, except my Moras. They have always come scary sharp!
  14. We got bayonets in Desert Storm. Personally, I wasn't that impressed. My personal knives I carried were much sharper. I'm not sure if the Kabar is issued anymore to the Marines, but the Marines I know, all carry them.
  15. I see no need in the Government knowing how prepared I am or am not. I find it odd that they would even ask such a question, especially coming from Homeland Security or the FBI. I am not comfortable with the power Homeland Security has been given as well. As said earlier, it reminds me specifically of the Nazis and the Communists in Russia, China etc, etc and what they all did to their populations after they came to power. Anything the Government does should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism IMO.

    rossi .38 ammo?

It's not the FPS I worry about, but the pressure increase necessary for that extra 100 FPS. Still, if you want to shoot a cylinder or two on occasion, I don't it would do a lot of damage, but definitely not a steady diet of it. My Agent loves the Nyclads though. When I bought the pistol off a Postal Inspector, that was the load he recommended. I've tried others, but in the accuracy department, the Nyclads win hands down and it's a standard pressure load, so I'll stick with it.
  17. Sweet looking 66! I'm not a fan of Gun Shows. Yes, you get a bigger variety, but the prices are usually higher than a cats back for what you are getting. Your descriptions of the 4 66's that were left at the end of the day is apt. Used quality at a new price.

I would not use +P in it. I have a Colt Agent, which is also not rated for +P, and I'm quite happy with standard pressure Federal 125 gr. Nyclads.
  19. And I agree with that, but we have to still lead and sometimes that requires policing and money too. Besides, we can't just surrender everything to the Chinese. Which in my opinion is what Ron Paul would do. If we become isolationist, then in 20 years the power of the world is going to be located in the far east with the rest of the world kowtowing to them. The EU isn't scared of us, they are are scared of China. Same goes for the democratic countries in Asia and the southern hemisphere, like Japan, Korea, Australia and the Philippines. That's why we signed that agreement with the Australians a couple of weeks back that allows us to station 2500 marines there permanently as a coordinating command. The Chinese are giving money to every third world country in the world and everyone knows they aren't doing it because they're just good people and feel sorry for the poor and hungry. They're doing it so they can have a big stick to keep these people in line, when it comes time to directly challenge us. I don't think we really want to be without allies when that time comes and it will come. The other thing is I don't think Ron Paul will be able to get congress to go along with him on what he wants to do. They all but shut him out in the House as far as leadership goes.
  20. Once again, I'm not real happy with the selection of candidates. I will most likely support Gingrich though, because I think he is the only one that could seriously take on Obama and cut him to shreds in a debate and win an election. I also think he would appoint pro 2nd Amendment Justices to the Supreme Court. I think Romney could possibly beat Obama too, but I do not under any circumstances trust Northeastern politicians with our 2nd Amendment rights. I wouldn't trust a west coast Politician either for that matter. Christy would have been a complete disaster for the 2nd amendment had he chosen to run. I could like Paul, but I do not like his isolationist stance. I don't think it's good for the US to withdraw back into it's borders on not help allies. I could imagine what that stance would have earned us in 1941, if Roosevelt had felt that way. I personally am glad we aren't speaking German and going around spying on each other and wiping out whole populations because we don't agree with them religiously or hate their "kind" (stick whatever minority in there you like). We are the strongest nation on earth and we must lead regardless of what others call us or say about us.
  21. +11111 etc ad nauseum!!! I can't stand any of them. I need no one to tell me how to think or vote. Most are absolute morons anyway. I do listen to Neal Bortz, but simply for the entertainment factor; he's hilarious! The rest are idiots. George Noory on AM Coast to Coast gives out better information and much cooler too!
  22. Great show! I'm really enjoying it!
  23. Colhane does a great tutorial! He is a missionary down in Brazil and goes to the jungle all the time working with the locals. He has a bunch of Bushcraft videos on Youtube and all are very informative. Hey OS... And you should have joined up on that site I linked. Bushcraftusa is one of the best sites for Bushcraft on the web.
