Tennessean writing about CCW reciprocity laws
Moped replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Excellent article! Of course, it would have been even so much better if you could have somehow worked in "New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and blithering idiot". -
Surprise, Surprise! DHS is Starting to Spy on Social Media!
Moped replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The surprise part was sarcasm. We lose our freedoms when the Government begins to monitor us, because at some point all of us are going to say something, regardless of how small it might be, that the monitors find offensive and then we will be placed on a list. Could be a "Don't Sell Firearms to this Person" List or a "Do Not Fly" List or the "Arrest this Citizen and Turn Him Over to the Military" List. But it will happen. Lists are always used for evil in the end. I'm sure the Germans thought their Lists were for the greater good back in the 1930s, but 6 million Jews + another 6 million others later and it sorta lost it luster. As for Osama winning, he changed our country and not for the better. Our Government is becoming scared of it's people and beginning to take steps that could ultimately lead to our oppression. -
Can't say I'm surprised really. DHS looks more and more like the Gestopo everyday. Privacy Group Sues DHS Over Social Media Monitoring Program | Fox News This statement pretty much sums it up. "Though still in development, DHS is looking to establish a system for monitoring "forums, blogs, public websites and message boards." The idea is to gather and analyze publicly available information, and then use that information to help officials respond to disasters and other situations." In other words, they are going to look at what we are saying and if they don't like it, we are going on a list somewhere that will restrict our freedoms even more. The more I read and see, the more I realize that we lost the war on terror and Osama won. We are losing our freedoms.

Merry Christmas to all my TGO friends!!!
-
Nope.

Lovely, yet another Federal intrusion I do not want or need.

I'd love to have one. They are beauts! I have a M44 (actually a Chinese Type 53) and it's a lot muzzle heavy with the bayonet permanently attached. If I could have found one at the time, I would rather have had the M38.
-
They have several really nice looking rifles!!!
-
The sight looks like it would be easily broken off. I'm not sure what was ever wrong with the front sight they used to provide. Seems like the butt ugly one should be the upgrade.
-
Those front sights are BUTT UGLY! They really detract from the look of Ruger pistols.

.380 vs .38+p........... ? which is more lethal ?
Moped replied to SonnyCrockett's topic in Handguns
I think just about all pistols where the barrel is fixed to the frame are blowbacks. That includes both the Sig P230 and P232 as well as the Walther PP derivatives and all their clones. I honestly don't know of a .380 that isn't a blowback, but since I dislike the caliber, I'm not all that up on it. The cut off seems to be the 9mm Para. since the Makarov is a blowback as well. -
.380 vs .38+p........... ? which is more lethal ?
Moped replied to SonnyCrockett's topic in Handguns
I am not a fan of .380s and they are not a fan of mine. I can shoot a 1911 all day long, but I've never had a .380 I could more than 2 or 3 mags through without my hand starting to shake. I think it's the fact that they are blow backs, unlike a 1911a1. I've also had only one .380 I ever considered reliable and that was a Sig 230. When I feel the need to carry, I carry a Colt Agent .38 spl which I shoot just fine with Nyclads even at 25 yards. And it shoots all day long with 100% reliability. -
Hey, you never know. Sometimes family members like to pass down valuable things to their younger family members. I ended up with a Belgium Browning A5 that what when I was 12. It was given to me by my Uncle who had no kids of his own. It was my Grandfather's shotgun. It will eventually go to my son one of these days.

I wouldn't worry to much about it either. It's not like you can't reprofile it and if it's sharp and cuts who cares. It's not like it's a collector knife.
-
Actually the Ulster BSA Pocket knife is probably worth about $20 to $30. At least that's what they seem to be going for on EBAY. There is also one Coke Cola Knife on EBAY that has 22 hours to go and it's at $6.50 with 7 bids and another with a Buy It Now price of $25. You might try researching them there first. It will give you a general idea of what they are worth. The knife made in Pakistan isn't worth anything.

My understanding is comparing a 91/30 to a M-39 is on par to comparing a Chevette to a Cadallic. They are supposed to be that much better. The Finnish Mosins were used in the 1920s and 30's in the Olyimpics and they brought home Gold, I do believe. I would love to have one of those, but they aren't cheap to come by. Some do not require an FFL, because their receivers were built before the turn of the 20th century.

You are correct and I was wrong. I thought the Eskabar was the only Stainless steel blade Becker ever made! That's good to know, because I snarled my nose up at it. I'm very tempted to run to SMKWs and get one of these now!
-
My favorite makers are Helle and Mora for fixed blades (I love Scandinavian blades) and Opinel, Victorinox, Bear and Sons and Rough Rider for folders. I also like old Cases, Schrades and Camillus. Don't much care for their newer stuff. I used to be into the tacticool folders like Kershaws (good knives!) and CRKTs, but they just don't interest me anymore. If I were going to buy something like that, I'd probably go for a Dozier.

Thanks for the reviews! Glad you got some good knives. Condor listened to the criticisms of it users when it revamped the Bushlore. One of their chief designers is a member at BushcraftUSA and he got an earful. He took it back to the company and they changed most of the major things. I think it's a great value for what you get with it now. Not sure there is a more inexpensive full tang knife out there unless you go buy an Old Hickory and modify it, then make it a new pair of pants to wear. When I bought my Condore Medium Bushcraft a year ago, they were still making the old version, which after holding it for a few minutes I hated. Felt and handled like a short sharpened crowbar. I went with the Bushcraft instead. That little Eskobar is probably going to end up being your go to woods knife. It's really hard to beat a Becker! The one thing I didn't like about it is it's stainless and I prefer carbon steel if I can get it. That's why if I buy a Becker, it will probably be a BK11. I like the fact that the BK11 can also open beer bottles as well! That's an ideal package!!!

Well put! And the rest of the quote is right on too!

That's a really nice knife! Stroud is the real deal. I like BG, but he takes way to many stupid risks on his show that a normal sane person never would. Helle smokes Gerber, IMO, in fit, finish and looks. They aren't all tacticool, like Gerber is and none of those serrations, which really turn me off. I really like my Odel, but I'd love to have a Helle Viking!
-
Hey BKelm18, have you looked at Helle Knives on Amazon? They are fantastic blades! I have a Helle Odel that I love and is my go too woods knife. Helle is a much upscaled Mora! There are some in your price range. Specifically he Tolleniv and the Folkekiven. You might want to check them out. If you can squeeze out a few more pennies, I recommend the Helle Viking, but it is $80.

Becker makes scales for the BK11. They are usually around $30 or so. Lots of people just wrap them with 550 paracord, but I prefer scales myself. I also like the Becker stripped down. I hate that coating they put on them. I've read that Condor is doing a much better job at the fit and finish of their blades. Of course, you got to remember they are a cheap knife to begin with and that means they are probably not going to be perfect. As for sharpening them, I've found that wet/dry sand paper like you find at the Auto Parts Store and a mouse pad will sharpen just about anything up pretty quickly. I have an older Condor Brushcraft that was a bit of a bear to sharpen, until I tried the sandpaper and then it was no problem. I convexed it. Another reason I like Moras so well is they are inexpensive and sharp as hell right out of the box. The sheaths are they're downfall, but with a little search of YouTube or a perusal of Ragweed Forge you can learn how to make a dandy sheath for them out of leather. I've also seen some videos where they mod the sheaths to hold fire steels and other items. I took my No.1 and turned it into a neck knife using the original sheath.
