If it's got a pouch big enough for an Altoids can, why not make a Personal Survival Kit. Look here. http://www.equipped.org/survlkit.htm#MINIPERSONAL

You know, I love my Saiga, but if you can get the WASR for only a $100 more, you will actually come out cheaper than buying the Saiga and doing a conversion. Both are AKs and they are going to shoot. But I do love my Saiga!
-
I'd be happy to take it off your hands, if you don't want it. Don't have a $100 but we could work a trade out.

Ruger is one of the best values on the market!

Garufa, that was not supplying the rifle. I told them I had a Saiga and wanted to get it converted. This was to one of the sales clerks behind the counter. He never batted an eye. Just told me the conversion would be around $600. I knew what the price was on the parts and I'd seen the Youtube vids, so I knew it wasn't all that hard to do and required no special tools. So I said thank you and left. I ordered my parts the next day. Three weeks later, I screwed up my courage and started the project myself. It took me two evenings and I had a converted Saiga. I'm not the worlds most gifted mechanic/machinest. To say even that, is a liberal use of the phrase! But this was really simple and when I was done, I knew my rifle inside and out and had the satisfaction of knowing I could do stuff like this. I also have a new found respect for the simplicity of the AK-47. It's a brillant and simple design!

True! But I do like to clean them every once in a while. I think when I first got mine, I was the first one to actually break it down. I suspect it's previous owner(s) just squirted a little oil in it and shot it.

Yes I am and yes I do!

I had to have a screwdriver to break mine down to get the reciever apart. That seemed like the least thought out part on the whole gun. I like a toolless takedown. To bad they can't be like ARs and AK, but then again that's probably asking too much for a $250 rifle. Still it was a blast to shoot and I miss it. We needed the money at the time worse than I needed the rifle. I'd love to have one in .45acp. For the Preppers out there, this would be a decent "give away" gun to someone that you felt you needed to arm as well, as would the one of their pistols.

One thing I did NOT like about the carbine, was breaking it down. It's a hemorrhoid to breakdown. Worse than a Ruger Mark II, imo.

Our plan is to stay put, but be ready to move at a moments notice to a location where we have family. The biggest thing we have to worry about is clean water. I have the bathtubs and the water heater the hold upwards of 200 gallons. As for the Power Line R.O.W., that's not a bad idea, but you won't move a lot of stuff that way, just you. Be aware that TVA didn't really worry too much about what the terrain on those looked like. Some of them are steeper than all get out and could be hard to navigate. I would think though, that a power line would be a veritable smorgasbord of eatible small furry animals like birds, rabbits, ground squirrels and other rodents. With some fine nets and some snare wires and a little know how, you could keep yourself fed is need be! Make sure you have some source of carbs to go with all that protein. I've heard great things about the Condor Golok. I think you would be well served with one.

Works for me. My son and I went to see the Grey last week. Language was pretty bad, but nothing kids don't hear at school anymore. But I thoght it was realistic for guys on a construction crew or working on an oil rig. Some parts I thought were stupid though. I don't think there would be a bar like was protrayed, on such a site in Alaska. I thought the movie itself was a bit hokey too.

How appropriate do you think it would be for a teenager? Language isn't much of problem. Skin would be.

ESEE Junglas... Should I keep it or sell it?

GB axes are the Cat's meow! Congrats on a superb piece of gear! Sell the knife and buy a Henry Lever action or a Ruger 10/22. You'll get more use out of that. -

Sell it and go buy another firearm. -
That's great price on the 922r conversion! I did my own and I have about $520 in mine including mags. What convinced me to do my own was when I called up Coal Creek to get them to do it and they wanted something $600 for the conversion alone. Decided I'd just give it a whirl myself and as BK said it's so easy a monkey could do it! They are great rifles! Wouldn't mind having one in 5.45X39. My rifle is a .223.
-
They are neat little carbines. The one thing you must do is only buy the manufacturer's mags. All others suck. That means your limited to 10 rounds. But I still had fun with them. They're fun to mod too!

GReat looking pistol! I didn't realize that AMT copied the Ruger.

The Supreme Court and You -- Ongoing Battle
Moped replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
And Rand will have a better chance of winning than his dad ever had or will. I agree with OS, vote in the primary for who you think is best and then vote for whoever the Republican winner is. SCOTUS is too important to give up to Obama in November. For those that think there will be a Revolution in this country, ya'll better break out the Reynold's Wrap and make your hats. I heard all this crap when Clinton was elected the first time. Saw all the militias formed all across this land and then saw the aftermath of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. I saw people realize what could happen and then back away from the "brink". There will never be another Revolution in this country. -
These are Finns,right?

For ease of maintence and after market parts available, I think the AK is one of the best deals out there. And the best deal on AK's, especially if you like to tinker, is to buy the Saiga and convert it back to what it was meant to be, a battle rifle! They are fun to do and if you are even remotely familiar with tools, easy. I went with the TAPCO Infusion System for mine. I'm not a traditionalist when it comes to Battle Rifles. I like them to look a bit cool as long they still do what they're supposed to do.
-
If your worried about a SHFT situation and finding ammo, then go with a Saiga in .223. Problem solved. It's not the reason I bought a .223 Saiga, I just like the caliber better and AK's a cheaper than Mini 14s and ARs. Also I think the more people here in the states play with AK's and work on them, the more accurate they are going to get.
-
Sounds like they are following in the footsteps of SIG. I would love to hear a review of one. I checked out S&W's website though and I don't think I would pay the MSRP for one. But then again I would never pay MSRP for any firearm.

What kind of shape is it in? -
If you want to save a bit of money go with the Saiga. If money is no object, go with the Arsenal.
