  1. If you get to Knoxville, go on over to Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville. They carry a HUGE SELECTION of both Victorinox and Wenger. You can also check them out online, by going to www.smkw.com and selecting BRAND in the upper left corner of your screen. Do you know what model you want? My personal favorite is the Farmer. http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/Victorinox%26reg%3B/Victorinox%C2%AE+Farmer%26%23153%3B+-+Silver+Alox/V53964.html
  2. I did hear that when the first officer rolled up, he noted that the shooter's shirt was wet and covered with grass on the back and that he had grass in his hair, as if he had been rolling on the ground in a fight. Still, the shooter should have followed the directions of the E911 Operator. This really smells IMO. The Shooter pushed it way, way further than it needed to go and a kid ended up dead. Obviously, none here knows the facts, just all the grandstanding crap being thrown out there by the news media. But I'd be real surprised if this guy isn't charged with something.
  3. Very nice looking Bushie!!! Congrats!!!
  4. There is a lot of food for thought here. If I were going with a lever gun for my main rifle, why not go for a lever gun for my .22 as well? It would be great for training as well as cheap! I think a Henry would make a great second rifle as would a Marlin 39A.
  5. Metals that I think might be a commodity are copper, lead, iron, and silver.
  6. Option No. 1: Combat Glock 17 M-4 2000 rounds of .223 hp 2000 rds 9mm whatever flavor they prefer. Book on bow making Tools needed to make bows and arrows Personally, I'd have every option covered. I don't think any one or two or three guns is going to cover it. Plus, I'd want some non firearms weapons on hand as well.
  7. Thanks for the link Prag! That really helps. Now I need to figure out how much food for a family of 5.
  8. Great looking rifle! He did and excellent job with the camo. The two Mini-14's I had, wouldn't group after 3 to 5 rounds, While they have a nice clean lines, which I really like, I won't be going down that line again.
  9. Ok. I wasn't that impressed. The Glock Shovel is much lighter and does all the same tasks but pull nails as far as I can tell. The saw is MUCH more efficant.
  10. I'd look more forward to partaking in your experiments!
  11. I hadn't been there in years either until last summer. Again, they don't have the best or biggest selection, but they are certainly competitive with anyone on price and they are pretty nice people! Checkout their website. https://starknives.com/default2.asp
  12. Stopped by Star Sales on Central in Knoxville and checked out the Kershaw Clash and a Compound. While I was there, I noticed a Kabar Large Dozier Folder. Checked out all three and ultimate chose between the Clash and the Dozier. The Dozier is a super nice big blade!!! 3.7" AUS8 steel blade which was very sharp! I estimate the blade thickness was almost 1/8". It looked to be a very sturdy blade! Was a bit on the heavy side though. It was the same price as the Clash at just a hair over $25. I ended up with the Clash. I'm just not a big fan of Thumb Studs. However, I have the Dozier as my next purchase!!! http://www.amazon.com/Large-Dozier-Folder-Black-Handle/dp/B0012QY7S2/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1331920420&sr=1-3 As for the Clash, I really, really like it! It's got good heft, not to light and not too heavy. It's quick opening, with a robust 3"+ blade in 8cr15MoV steel. The blade looks to be about 3/16" thick and just around 1" wide with a deep belly. The pocket clip is set up for right side carry only, point up or down and is contoured and a bit wider than I am used too, but it feels nice in the grasp. The texture on the scales is not overly aggressive and allows for a comfortable grip. I fits my medium sized hand nicely. The fit and finish is what you expect from a Kershaw. There is no safety like on my little Scallion. I like that! The safety on the Scallion is made of plastic and I've had to replace it once already. In fairness, that knife was found in a gravel parking lot by my then 11 year old daughter and it was a daily carrier for almost 4 years. I gave it back to her about 2 years ago and she keeps it a drawer. I think the Clash is doing to be switching out with my Svord Peasant for EDC Duty. Can't say enough good about Star Sales. They've been in Knoxville well over 50 years and they have always provided good service. They don't have a spectalar inventory, but what they do have is generally cheaper than I can find anywhere else. Brands carried are Kershaw, Case, KABAR, Boker, Schrade/Uncle Henry, Kissing Crane and Smith & Wesson and some other lesser known and cheaper knives. If you don't want to drive to SMKWs and don't want to wait on Amazon or Ebay, you might check them out at www. starknives.com to see what they have in inventory.
  13. We should never turn our own over to others. What they are doing is the right thing to do. He is out of the country. He will be brought back here and Court Marshalled. If he is convicted, then I hope they give him what he deserves. I read today that the traumatic brain injury was actually a concussion.
  14. The Foxsnews story said the Marine General was the one that ordered and it was for the reason Mike.357 said. To me, it wasn't a big deal either, since they quoted the General taking ownership. I was much more upset about the Obama Flag story.
  15. OS, why do you do this to me? I really like that K631 and now that you all have introduced me to www.exduct.com, I've been on there every night looking at their knives, along with wading through that Bladesforum thread. I'm thinking that I want one of those K630's too. Big fat blade like a ZT300, which I can't afford. Dang, I'm going back to Tacticool again!
  16. Personally, a Mora is a very good value. There are about 30 models, but all are an excellent value! They start at around $10 and go to $60 or higher. They come in carbon steel and also stainless. They come VERY SHARP with a scandi grind. They are excellent at slicing and carving, so they work well around the camp. They are a little light for batoning, but people do it all the time. If they break, you are only out $10 or so, no big deal. The downside of them is the sheaths. They are pretty lame, but it doesn't take much to make another sheath or mod them into something that a lot more handy.. There are all kinds of how to's on the web. If you think they might be something your interested in, I recommend www.ragweedforge.com. Guy name Ragnar runs the site and he's a super guy. You won't find a bigger collection of Mora's. The other thing a bout a Mora is for the price, you can buy several, one for you and one for your girlfriend of under $30. I have 3 of them. A #1, a modded 511 and a 780, which was discontinued a couple of years ago. The last is a laminated blade, the first two are carbon, which I prefer to stainless. I also have a Condor Kumunga, which is just a big Varian. If you are backpacking and hiking both of those are too heavy to carry. You want something light for that. If you like the Becker offerings, then check out the BK11 or the BK14. Both are around 3" inches and very sturdy and both are in your price range for a basic knife. They run $32 and $34 on amazon.com and qualify for free shipping. The BK14 looks like the brother of the Izula above. BTW, if your getting into hiking, backpacking and Bushcrafting, I recommend you check out www.bushcraftusa.com. Great site with lots of good info!
  17. WOW! Wish I had your job! Can't afford to do such things anymore. So you got a Saiga, a WASR and a Colt AR. Not a bad couple of weeks! Just think how that G2 trigger group would feel in that Saiga. I love mine. What caliber did you get in the Saiga?
  18. The Sale goes through the 18th of March.
  19. The Compound does have a "Nessmuck" look to it. I'm not sure which I like better, the Clash or the Compound.
  20. I went to Sevierville today and the Coleman Outlet is having a Sale today. If your in the area, you might want to stop in and check them out. One Example I saw was a 0degree Mummy bag (Big and Tall) for $49.99. That's almost half off. Nice Base Station First Aid Kits were $7.99. The Evanstan Tent was $109. Fleece Sleeping bags were going for $11.99. A backpacking 2 man tent was $49. Just thought I would pass it on to you!
  21. I was a SMKW today and checked out a Kershaw Blurr and the Clash. I think I like the Clash a little better. I'm not a fan of thumb studs. I walked out of there a poorer man than I walked in, but not much poorer. Picked up a Carbone Opinel No. 9 for $8.99, a Gerber Dimond Pocket Sharper for $1.99 and a CRKT Eat'N Tool for $4.99. I'm a happy man!!! Opinels are hard to find in this area!!! I may have to order a Clash from Amazon for $22.93. They are $27 at SMKW. Dang! I'm going Tacticool again!
  22. I vote, don't take the job. Ridiculous gun laws! Land of the Free, my butt!
  23. Just got home and I'm eating supper. But before I came home, I stopped and voted for Romney.
  24. Some more fodder for argument. What about companies that don't own their buildings or land? Should they have the ability to restrict their employee's 2nd Amendment Rights? Most companies lease or rent their space for liability and insurance reasons. What if there are other tenets in the building the do not have such a policy and all employees share a common parking lot, is it fair that a company be able to still restrict a HCP holder the right to have his firearm in his car?
