  1. Sounds like I will be making a trip to Aldi's! That's a good price on their coffee!
  2. This sounds interesting. But I'll have to see which day is chosen, before I commit. I have quite a few irons in the fire as it is. Thanks for doing this Timestepper!
  3. The bad thing about that is these companies moving out of California, are probably going to expect where ever they move to, to change to satisfy their "California" ways. The company I work for is headquartered in California and we have to put up with all the same BS. Sadly, you are probably correct, sir.
  4. Coleman won't get my business, though that store is a weird. I wonder if the signs were put up by the building owner or the business owner and if they are the one and the same? I say weird because all those little stores in that building are connected by a long internal hall way. Seems like the walls are not full as well.
  5. I'd be interested in coming to learn! Just let us know when!!! Thanks!!!

    W.German Sig P226

$600 seems a bit steep to me. I think you made the right decision in keeping the RIA. You can always find a 226 or a P6. At the age or 48, I'm like Hi-Power and I regret every one I let go, now. That's not to say that I still won't trade though. Sometimes that itch just gets too strong!!! LOL
  7. His hands were tied because the Florida Legislature set the sentence for him. I suspect she had a prior also. Personally, I thought the DA was stupid and should have her law license suspended for charging this poor woman in the first place. But the woman was stupid for going back in the house with the gun. She should have run to the neighbors house and called the police and had her husband taken to jail. BTW, the DA is the same DA that is trying George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case and she was roundly criticized for her role in this trail by one of Florida's black house members, Florida Representative Corrine Brown blasted her soundly over all this.
  8. Checked them out at the Walmart on Norris Freeway in Halls and they still $15. I came home with a wire saw for $3.00 for my PSK. Well, I couldn't not buy something!
  9. +1 on what gregintenn said. A little looseness is a good thing in my book.
  10. Your drug of choice along with just about every member here, I'd say, including me! LOL! Thanks for the info about storing coffee beans. BTW, does the Aldi's coffee come in tin cans? And is it good? What is the cost? I'm always searching for new brands to try and I like the coffee tins. They are a handy reuse item. I was on a field trip with my daughter's class up to Rock Mount State Historical Site this week, and they demonstrated how coffee was made back in 1791. The green beans were bought or traded for. When it was time for use, then they were roasted in a pan or skillet over an open fire. Then ground in a hand cranked grinder and boiled in a pot to produce coffee. Then you poured the coffee through a "sifter" (which looked like a small straw basket with a handle on it) into your cup. Coffee was a treat back then and probably would be in a TEOTWAWKI situation as well. This talk of coffee leads me to another item that will be found in short supply, sugar. Sugar will be another item that will be hard to replicate in a possible post apocalyptic time. They talked about it as well. Sugar was another item that was traded for. Refined sugar (white) came in a hard cone shaped lump and was wrapped in waxed indigo paper, to repel moisture and bugs. Bugs apparently do not like indigo. It was used as a sweetener for tea and coffee and I guess from some special dishes as well. It was pointed out though, that brown sugar was what was used in cooking. Brown sugar is considered unrefined sugar and is apparently easier to make. I also know that sugar was made from different kinds of plants like beets and sugar cane. You all now know as much as I know about sugar, now. Do any of you farmer types know if those plants grow naturally around here? As to indigo, I know that back in the 18th and 19th centurries, it was grown in SC. Can it be grown here?
  11. Back when I was a little kid, my grandparent's pond got overrun with the beasts. They had a bout 30 or so ducklings and ended up with 0 in about a two week period. My uncle would take a .222 Remington bolt action and shoot them in the head when they came up to take a breath of air. That .222 would completely decapitate them. They'd usually float in in a day or two. He took out 7 of them and cleaned the pond out for the year. The biggest one I saw had to be 3 feet in diameter and about 18" tall from from belly to top of the shell. These things were huge!!! We caught another making the trip up to the pond from the creek down in the valley (He was only about half that size). Had to be a half mile travel. Got him to snap at the end of a cedar fence post. When he would hit it, it sounded like a gun shot. Ended up killing him with a 12ga.
  12. I went on a field trip today with my daughter's 4th grade class, to Rocky Mount State Historical site, outside of Johnson City. While touring the museum portion, I noticed that they had a tomahawk made from a railroad spike. Pretty neat little hawk! I'd like to have one. It was made by a amateur forge club in Bristol.
  13. Nice looking pistol!
  14. It's my experience that Kershaw doesn't make a cheap knife. They do make in-expensive well built knives, but they are not cheap. Now I do have to admit that this particular one is not my cup of tea, but I have no doubt it's a decent quality knife that would serve anyone well.
  15. I take Mr. Pincus' word on what he has seen. I've never been a big fan of these little pistols. If you want small AND dependable, get a S&W or Ruger snubbie. One thing I think we've done with the 1911 is make the damn things too tight. The 1911 was designed to be loose and shoot dirty. It had plenty of accuracy for combat, which is all you need in a defensive pistol. I'm still a huge fan of them, though. The 1911 full sized pistol is still one of my favorite firearms!
  16. Looks good, but I like flippers over thumb studs. I'll stick to my Clash. However, I really don't think you can beat a Kershaw when it comes to tactical folders. I really like them. I think you get your monies worth!
  17. I'm a Colt fan, myself. When I feel the need to carry, I have a Gen 2 Colt Agent .38spl that I carry with two HKS speedloaders. Round of choice is the Federal 130 gr Nyclad. The finish on it, is a little worn, but it's a shooter and it has a smooth as glass trigger.
  18. I've seen people at work, act that way in the morning if the regular coffee is gone!!!
  19. +1,000,000!
  20. I could give a rat's ass what my faith leaders and my denomination think about Mormanism. My denomination is for gun control. I'm smart enough to know my Faith Leaders aren't any smarter than me and I will do what I think is best. I go to church to worship God, not to listen to a bunch of old hand ringers. If we could keep all religion out of politics, it would be doubly fine with me. Every denomination thinks every other denomination is a cult any way.
  21. This is true! However, really when you think about it, coffee is a comfort food, only. Alcohol can be used for medical purposes, as fuel, as a cleaner, and for comfort. If i were looking to make a trade for either alcohol or coffee, then alcohol is the winner hands down. Alcohol would be much more important to ease of living. You are right though. Alcohol can be made, but coffee can't be grown here... or could it? Wonder if coffee could be raised in the smokies? Also I wonder how many people really know how to make alcohol.
  22. Great pick up! Now go buy a case or two of 8mm before it gets too expensive to shoot! As far as an all numbers matching military rifle, those are as rare as hens teeth. That's why all matching number military rifles usually go for a premium. I think yours is a super nice piece though! Be really proud of it and don't hesitate to shot it and let others shoot it. Spread the love to others!!!
  23. Wonder how much a 50lb bag of coffee beans costs and how long it would store? Also wonder how long it would last once TEOTWAWKI happened? Let's see, I am the only one in the family "addcted" to it....
  24. 64 oz of tea+700 miles= many pit stops for me!!!
  25. Guys and girls, a vote for anyone other than Romney, is a vote for overturning the current makeup of the Supreme Court. If that is changed, then you can start kissing what rights we still have good by, starting with the Second Amendmend. I hope that Ron Paul will get behind Romney and instruct his supporters to vote Republican.
