Bible-college student arrested in New York for having pocketknife
Moped replied to mcurrier's topic in General Chat
New York is an arm pit! I had it on my bucket list to visit when I retire. No way now. Not that Bloomberg and his cronies really give a damn. Sounded like the young missionary felt the same way I do. -
Picked up two cap and ball revolvers
Moped replied to Spots's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Congrats on the pistols! They are fun to shoot! You need a couple of holsters... or you could go Hickock and tuck'em in a sash! -
I have a SS Springfield Loaded and it's a great pistol!!! Eats everything I feed it, including Hydra-Shok 230 gr HP's. I also run Wilson mags in it too.

Hmmm... 6.8 AR, it seems to me that anyone that doesn't agree with your thinking seems to be a lefty. It must be a small world on your side. Actually, most of my family, friends and co-workers see me as being conservative. If anything I have a Liberatarian bent. I see myself as not being beholding to either party. In fact I think that there isn't a whole lot of difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. In my mind both just want power for themselves and their group and could give a rat's butt what happens to the rest of us. Both have shown a wellingness to trample all over the constitation whenever they feel like it. As for the topic at hand, if you aren't willing to acknowledge the examples I've sited, then there isn't much to talk about, now is there. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that point.

Tim McVeigh comes to mind when I think of right wing extremists and threats. Unfortunately he carried his threat out. There was a lot of the militia talk crap going on after Clinton took office, A LOT OF IT. And all of it from the Right Wing. The Michigan Militia comes to mind from that time period. There have also been militias prosecuted during Obama's term. All of them right wing extremists. Currently there the leader is the Alaskan Peacetime Militia is on trial in Anchorage along with some of his cronies for varies charges. Then there are the Hutaree in the Midwest. There were arrests down in Georgia back last fall that were connected to Right Wingers as well. My point is neither side is "innocent" and should not be protreyed as such.

Just out of curiosity, is that the Shetland Islands? What goes on there other than fishing and ponies?

The one I owned was a very good rifle as long as you ran Hi-Point mags. Anything else and it was a jam-o-matic. Dang fun rifle to shoot though!!! I recommend them!!!

You might be interested in a Wenger Ranger 61. Wengers are now made by Victorinox. This one already has the clip. It also comes with a 4" one hand opening main blade and other tools. It is tip down. http://www.wengerna....with-clip-16319 I carried a Wenger in Desert Storm (more traditional SAK witha button lock) and it was a damned fine knife. Sadly I lost mine.

Hiking/Camping Fixed Blade <$40 - Ideas?
Moped replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
Moras are excellent knives! They have just come out with two new models the Light My Fire and the Robust. The Light My Fire has a fire steel that fits in the grip made by Light My Fire. The Robust is the first Mora with a blade that is 1/8" thick. My favorite fixed blades tend to be 4" or less and are 1/8" thick or less. Any thicker and they are just a sharpened pry bar to me. I do like my big chopper blades to be around 1/4", but I don't carry the big blades hiking. Just too heavy. Here is a link to Mora Knives sold by Ragweed Forge. The owner, Ragnar, is an excellent person to deal with and this is a super site with a lot of info on scandanavian knives. http://www.ragweedfo...ifeCatalog.html And a review of the Mora Robust on youtube. The African-American vote is safe with Obama, no matter the color of the man's skin, that is running for President on the Republican side.

Christie would be a disaster! If he is selected, I'm not sure I could vote at all! That man is no friend of ours!

On the autoloader side of things, I'd look at a Ruger Mk II/III. All steel, no bugs and they will last forever! In the double action revolvers, I'd try to find a good clean used S&W or a Ruger SP101. Both are great revolvers. I also have a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe that I love! For a single action revolver, go with a Ruger Single Six, unless you can find an old Colt. I have a Colt Peacmaker that is the cat's meow! Single actions are a blast to shoot!!!

Whenever I hear or read stuff like this, I immediately think of the Holecost. Chips are just an updated version of the Nazi tattoos on Concentration Camp Survivors.

Just keep a very lite coat of oil on it. Whip it down occasionally. if you get a leather holster for it, don't keep in the holster, except when you are carrying it. And if you shoot black powder rounds through it, clean it afterwards. Really blued isn't hard at all to keep up. Just a little harder than stainless steel, which you still need to keep clean as it will still rust as well.

Don't disagree with that TS, but if you set the Pace Count Course up over hilly terrain. That will factor in a bit of the up an down you will experience walking on a Land Navigation Course. That makes it tend to even out. Plus the military has been doing this for years, Yes, they have GPS Units now, but They will have a Compass Man and a Pace Counter working as back up too. And if you are moving at night landmarks can be a PITA to see. Then you need to have confidence in your compass and pace count.

Stainless is practical. Blue is beautiful! I don't mind the wear on a blued gun. Show charactor and use. I only own one stainless steel and that's a Springer Loaded Model 1911. The rest of my guns are blue or matte. I wish I had enough money to pick up that Colt .38 Rocky has for sale. That's a beaut! Of course, I want a canoe... and a Winchester Lever Action... and a Frost River Summit Expedition Back Pack... and a new to me FJ40... and...

Knowing your pace count for a hundred yards is an excellent idea! During basic training, that is one the first things you learn in Land Navigation. And every time you go on a land navigation course in the Army, it's on of the things you check before head out on the course. A good trick to keeping up with your pace count is to pick up a handful of marble sized rocks and put them in one pocket and every 100 yards (we actually used meters in the Army) move a rock to your other pocket. Every so often stop and count your rocks, multiple by a hundred and that's how far you have gone. Some people make Ranger Beads on paracord. You start with all your beads on one end of the para cord and then move one bead to the other end of the cord at every 100 yards. It's just fancier, but both methods are effective. Land Navigation is better with two people working together. One person works the compass and keeps the group on line and the other person keeps the pace count. If in a larger group, then have back ups working both positions. Another nice thing to have in your BOB is a RULER or a measuring stick, for estimating distances along with some paper and a pencil.

Once I've been there, I can just about always get back. But that Gazatteer is a nice safety blanket. I'm also real bad to stop at State Welcome Centers when traveling and picking up road maps as well. Their usually free, so why not. I also love old maps and can set and look at them for hours. That's another nice thing about the internet. There are lots of cool maps online, so I am always looking at old maps. I especially love going back and looking at historical maps of Tennessee. As for a compass, right now, I am using a Coleman. I need to step up and get a Silva or Brunton. I've been considering a Trunord as well.

Pretty much what I got out of it too. However, one thing that I researched that I thought the movie did not portray correctly was the Civil War. Anderson and Randolph were not in the Confederate Army. They were part of a local Home Guard called the Logan Wildcats. I guess I think of them as Raiders, not soldiers. If that's the case, then I'm not sure that Anderson actually deserted. He just went home. Another thing I read online was that Roseanna wasn't the virginal, "never been kissed before", young girl they protrayed her to be in the movie. She was actually older than Johnse by about 2 or 4 years and had enjoyed the "company" of men on other past occasions. Actually what happened was she saw dollar signs when she met Johnse, since the Hatfields were rich, by that areas standards. The other thing I read in several narratives was she didn't stay only one night in the Hatfield house and then go back home, but she stayed several months and that Sally McCoy sent Roseanna's sisters to talk her into coming home. After she went home and was treated cruelly, by her father, she went to her aunt's house, where she and Johnse kept up the love affair that resulted her becoming pregnant. Other than that, I've really enjoyed the series. From all I have read about this on the internet, they did a good job with actually portraying what all went on. It seemed to me that except for two men, this would have never been a big drawn out affair. Those two men were Percy Cline on the McCoy side and Jim Vance on the Hatfield side. Another interesting thing I read (only saw it the one time) on the internet, was when Anderson Hatfield got the 5000 acres from Percy Kline, he was only 13 at the time and a orphan under the care of a man named Dils, who was politically connected in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. One of his step brothers was said to have been Frank Phillips, the lawman that brought in most of the Hatfields. Also Frank did die of gun shot wounds, but it was several days after the fight and I don't think it was by his deputy, rather a man that he was attempting to capture in West Virginia, whom he also killed in the gunfight. In the movie, Cottontop was the admitted bastard of Ellison Hatfield, but I don't think they told who his mother was. Supposedly, it was Ellison's and Anderson's first cousin.

I'll take a Saiga anytime over the Mini! Actually, I used the M16a1 and 2s in the service and I owned a hybrid (A1 lower with an A2 upper) and I love the Saiga better than those!!! Now all that being said, the minis that I've shot, where all older models and not the lastest from Ruger, which according to all I've read, are much better than they used to be.
