Hey OS, what do you think about the CS Spike Tanto and the Boker Plus Besh-Wedge? I own the Spike, but I usually leave it in the car, due to the length. It's 8" long but very narrow. It's really a stiletto in the traditional sense, a skinny sharp pointed fixed blade. I'd the spike for a number of years. I've also seen the youtube vid of the fat guy cutting the manilla rope with one. It just seems awful long to be a hideout weapon.

Four Tennessee men face charges in gun sales
Moped replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I got to agree with these two statements. Moving a lot of firearms in a month or a year, is going to get you noticed, by someone, whether it's on the internet, showing up at every gun show with something to sale, posting several ads in papers or buying and selling at a flea market. We all know these people, because we see them all the time, including on this site. And it doesn't take long to figure out who is moving a lot of firearms here. -
I've really enjoyed reading about your alls gardens! And I think I've learned a lot. We always had a garden when I was growing up, but I've never had a garden since. We did plant a few tomato plants last year that had a nice yield and which we ate all of them, but that's about it. I'm going to have to look at doing the sq. ft. thing, since that's all the room I have. On rabbits, why not purchase an air rifle and make stew out of them? Air rifles powerful enough to take out rabbits can be had at Wallyworld for under $120. Meat on the table at an inexpensive price... pellets cost about $5 for 250 and you get another rifle to play with that should be suburban friendly! Lastly, have you all checked out the Mother Earth News and the Backwoodsmen. Both magazines have elements of self sufficiency and prepping, though Mother Earth News is less evident in the prepping aspect. Just a couple of thoughts. Oh, and I love the Lazy Man's Tiller! Brought a chuckle as I was setting here drinking my morning coffee!

It looks like a mini Ula. The Ula is an Eskimo knife that's used for a lot of different things from skinning game and processing hides to food prep. They aren't really meant as a defensive weapon, though I suppose they could be used for such, in a pinch. A neck knife isn't all about defense and actually would probably not be my favorite way to carry a defensive knife anyway, just because you have to fight the neck of your shirt to get it out. Seems slow. But it is a handy way to carry a utility knife. Still I perfer a small knife to be in the pocket or on the belt as opposed to the neck. That's where I plan on carrying the whichever small fixed blade I get. Right now I'm looking at a CRKT Minimalist Bowie, a Broker Gnome or a Broker Plus Rambler... Though that Boker Mini Bowie that OS showed me is growing on me too. Seems like a good design! The Minimalist and the Rambler are in the lead at the moment.
-
I might, but right now, I'm trying to decided between a CRKT Minimalist, a Boker Plus Rambler and a Boker Gnome. The Minimalist is in the lead at the moment, but I like the looks of the Bokers.

The company I work for, stopped paying any health insurance benefit last year. They work with the Insurance companies to provide us with plans, but we pretty much pay the whole thing, to the tune of almost $12,000 per year. Add an additional $2000 for an FSA and I'm spending around $14,000 per year for health care costs for me and my family, plus the deductible and co-pays. As for a Republican Congress and Romny overturning Obamacare, I don't see that happening either, unless they can win enough to capture the 60 votes in the Senate needed to override a filibuster and I don't see that happening. Then there is the fact that once a law is passed it's all but inpossible to get it over turned. This is Washington and money is power and Health Care is big money!!! I think we are stuck with this ladies and gents, no matter how much we dislike it.

I've been considering getting a CRKT Minimalist. These are getting rave reviews over on BushcraftUSA. But I do like the looks of the Lawdog. http://www.amazon.co...ords=Minimalist

I don't think you are going to be disappointed. I bought the same knife 3 weeks ago with the Coyote Brown Scales, off EBAY for $22 plus shipping, which brought it to $27. Before that I carried a Kershaw Clash, which I loved. The Rat 1 has been in my pocket ever since. I do wish I had bought a plain edge though, but the serrations haven't bothered me at all. I'm a huge fan of the RAT 1 now! Best liner lock I have ever owned!

Is the Law Dog still in production?

I'd love to have a Civil War reproduction rifle, but man are they expensive! -
I don't, but I do find Cathrine Bell quite fetching! Oh, and it's nice to see Hollywood going Pro Gun!

Now remember, this was from the late 80's though 2000. I'd say the Army has tightened up just what you can and can't do now. The reason we were allowed to take our competition weapons home, along with the ammunition, was because we were expected to practice on our own time. This was a reserve rifle team, not active. That was the reason given to me when I joined that program. And we had personel scattered all over the the states of Tennessee and Alabama. I was assigned four weapons, a NM M-14, a Winchester 52 .22 target rifle, a Ruger MkII target pistol with a bull barrel and a NM 1911A1. We were under orders for the Arkansas shooting competition, but we since we had no vehicles assigned to our unit, we were authorized to travel in POVs and carry our weapons with us. We were not authorized ammunition for the movement, expect for the one guard. However, that was not a group of civilian cars you would have wanted to stop and rob. I think there were probably 200+ shooters for that meet and I think just about all of them traveled POV with weapons. Those were fun days!

I consider the NG as a part of thw whole since they can be Federalized at the whim of the President. My experience was with the AR. Us Engineers tended to go to the field for AT just about the entire time and we drew our weapons for the field. They started bumping field time up for us in the mid 80's. When we deployed overseas, to Honderus, we drew our weapons as well. When in Panama, we did not though, since Noriega's PDF supplied our security, but we had them locked away in a CONEX box. And of course, during our time in Iraq, we always drew them prior to departing CONUS. Qualification was done local most of the time, since it was hard to get ranges coordinated at Campbell or Bragg during AT. Especially during the 90's with Units being sent to Bosnia, Panama, and Haiti. We would draw weapons at the center and ammunition at the range, wherever we were qualifing. Later on when I changed units to a Rifle Training Unit and Competition Shooting for the ARCOM, we were allowed to draw our weapons and keep them with us for practice, even through the Clinton years. We were required to store them in an approved lockable storage unit, like a safe at the house and we drew ammunition for whatever we were shooting. I once transported a rack of M16A2s and a box of M9's to Arkansas to take part in a Tactical Competition, in my POV, under orders, as well. So it's done a lot more than you think.

Green card holders should be allowed to get a HCP, if they want one. It's stupid to say otherwise, since they are here following the letter of the law. Sometimes people can't or won't see the difference in legal and illegal aliens and just lump them all together. Those people tend to be called bigots, in my book.

Not a bad post, except for saying that the Reserves are made up of mostly soft MOS's. In Tennessee, that is not the case. The 278th is an Armored Calvary Reg (NG), based over most of the state and comprised of several thousand members. The 844th Engr BN (CBT)(HV) (AR) is based in East Tennessee and is about 800 strong. There is also the 181st artillery battalion (NG)e early . All these units have seen active service in Iraq and in the case of the 278th and the 844th, multiple tours starting with Desert Storm. And all these units are combat arms units. I was a member of one of those units and while you are correct that we only drew our weapons for range time, we also drew them for our AT's. And our range times were usually local as well, and not held at Ft. Campbell or Tullahoma. As for the article. I don't think its anything to get all worked up about. And there have been many cases where the active duty military has been called in to restore order during national emergencies. The 82nd was called into New Orleans after Katrina. The 7th Infantry Division was ordered into LA after the Rodney King beating started riots there. And in Washington DC back in 1932, during what was called the "Bonus War", the Army was used to move some 20,000 veterans and their families, who were protesting the Governments refusal to pay bonuses the veterans had been promised. The troops were under the command of Douglas McArthur and included tanks and calvary, led by none other than George Patton. You can read about it here. http://www.historyne...-washington.htm

DEA: Alcohol Prohibition Worked Back In The 1920's
Moped replied to mcurrier's topic in General Chat
Not a thing! If anything we have a lot to gain, by doing so!!! First off look at all the money that we'd save by trimming the LE and Bureau of Prisons bugets! Second, look at all the money to be gained by taxing it! Third of all, Mexico would more than likely settle down, since in one fell swoop, we took all the money away from the cartels. At the very least they would all go legitimate. DING, DING, DING! We have a winner! Legalize them all! Take all the money out of the business and watch the crime rate drop. There will be overdose deaths, but you know what? I don't really give a damn anymore. Too much money has been siffoned out of our pockets for the War on Drugs that's been a total failure. I'd rather pay to clean the junkies up one time, than put them in prison. Then just let them OD, if they can't clean up. -
Voted Liberatarian last time and would do so again, but I want to see another conservative on the Supreme Court, which we all know Obama won't do. So I will vote for Romny. But I see little difference between either the Democrats and the Republicans. They just trade around special interests from time to time and suck the rest of us dry.

It is too bad. They created a great design for OKC. It has me wanting an ESEE now, but I can't afford one.
-
I currently EDC a OKC RAT 1 and a Camillus U.S. knife. I bought the RAT 1 off EBay and I love it! Great lock up and feels wonderful in the hand for a "cheap" knife!

Introducing the, uh, um... Survival Tampon
Moped replied to analog_kidd's topic in Survival and Preparedness
In a SHTF situation, I wouldn't hesitate to slap one on a wound. Makes a lot of sense. Never thought about tinder though. My wife would find it humorous if she found them in my BOB though. -
Call me old school, but I'd rather have a Browning Hi Power than a Glock or a Beretta any day. But between the Glock and the Beretta, I'd go Glock. It's lighter and easier to carry than the Beretta. The M9 is a big pistol for the caliber. Too big for a CCW.

JAB, I have the same problem with my employer. They are very safety consious and very anti weapons. I've been questioned a couple of times about my posket knives. So I completely understand! I just picked up a very robust folder by Ontario Knife Company; the RAT 1. I've been very impressed with it! Very solid lockup!!! I think the Knife was designed for Ontario by the people that bring you ESEE knives. Mike Perrin, here in the Knoxville area, is one of them. I've been hugely impressed with mine! I would also pick up a multi-tool or a SAK of some sort. I perfer Leatherman, for the multi-tool and the SAK Farmer. It's not heavy on tools, but it's really all you need! That shelter I referenced, is actually pretty small and of minimal weight, too.
-
Hey great setup! You put a lot of thought into it. One thing I would add to it, though is some sort of shelter. You could pick up a silnylon tarp or repurpose a rain fly from an old tent. Or you could add one of these. http://www.amazon.co...y/dp/B003ZZY9CC You also might want to have a system to cook with. A popcan stove with a small bottle of HEET, would not add a lot of weight to your kit at all. And lastly, if it were me, I'd go with a sturdier knife like the new Mora Robust. http://www.ragweedfo...ifeCatalog.html (third knife down and only $15 and weights in at 4 3/4 oz with sheath) Fillet knives are great for fish, but just not stiff enough for any real hard use. A Mora Robust would clean those fish just as good and baton through a 3" limb too.
