I think you can go out and spend $1000 plus on a Superdooper Pooper shooter, but why would you, when there are plenty of much cheaper options out there that do what you need doing. The RIAs, Rugers, Springfield, S&Ws and SIGs will do exactly what you need them too, when you want them too, as good as a Ed Brown, a Wilson or a Nighthawk for a lot less. The average shooter will not be able to tell the difference. I doubt a high dollar gun will make me a better shooter than I already am. If I can keep 8 rounds on a paper plate at 25 yards, I am happy. Because that translates (for me at least) to a couple of inches at 20 feet or less, which is what I figure I would be shooting in a defensive situation. I don't plan on becoming a member to the HRT team or anything. Any way, that's just my 2 cents. Whatever you buy, I suggest shooting several hundred rounds through it, if you are going to be using it for defense. You want to be sure it's reliable in a crunch situation.

If the revolver is in good shape, then $100 is a good price on one. I've seen them as high as $175. They were and are a basic pistol without a lot of bells and whistles. Decently accurate and very reliable. I think they make a good woods/fishing/trapping gun and are great for casual plinking. Are they tack drivers, nope. Is the fit and finish on par with a Ruger/S&W/Colt, nope, but they aren't priced in that realm either.

I would say collect copper and silver coins. Get them as pure silver as you can. Silver can be used to kill bacteria and as a purifier! Check this article out. http://www.doulton.ca/silver.html Look for silver coins minted prior to 1965. They will be 90% silver. Look for Pennies minted prior to 1991. They will be 95% copper and 5% zinc. Now they are copper washed zinc. Quarters, dimes and nickels contain no silver now. Half dollars were still made of silver until 1970, when they were changed to 40% silver. Now they have no silver in them. Another metal you might be interested in keep is tin. Copper and tin can be combined to make bronze, which can be made into tools and weapons.

Stop, collect your thoughts and take into account what you have to help yourself out and then consider the Rules of Three. 3 minutes without air. 3 hours without shelter. 3 days without water. 3 weeks without food 3 months without companionship If your breathing, then the first one is done! Start working on shelter. Once that's done, find a water source, then food. Hopefully, companionship will come with rescue!

Don't think you could go wrong with either brand. That being said, Mike Perrin is one of the owner/designers for Esee and he lives near Knoxville. I'd buy an Esee. Plus I think they are typically a bit cheaper in price.

I have a Springfield Loaded 1911A1 in Stainless, that has been an awesome pistol for me! It's accurate and as reliable as my GLOCK 17 has been. I doubt I ever get rid of it. Don't think you can go wrong with a Springfield.

Peeping Tom! You should have shot it!!! My mom and dad used to have a park model trailer up in Cosby, around a couple of apple orchards. One night they were setting in the living room reading and when they heard a noise at the sliding glass door. A large black bear was actually setting on their porch watching them. Scared the crap out of them both! When they both jumped up, so did the bear and he ran off. Dad kept a shotgun loaded with slugs next to his side of the couch after that. He said seeing the bear actually setting on the porch and watching them was quite humorous, when he thinks about it now. Said he knows what animals in a zoo feel like! We found a box turtle (I call them terrapins) in the yard the other day. Moved it around a couple of times to help it avoid the lawnmower and the dogs. -
I wish I had bought one of these for $65 back in 2003! That was quite a deal! I regret not buying one. Even at $150, you've more than doubled your money. Tell me something else that's more than doubled in value in 9 years!

Sounds like Bandy Creek would work well for you! My family and I have camped there several times and we have always enjoyed it. It can get crowded at times. Another place to consider is Picket State Park on the West side of BSF. It's a nice state park with a lake for swimming and canoeing. There are cabins there as well, should you not feel like camping. Also many of the things to do at BSF are located really close by, like across the road! Other things to see are Alvin C. York's grist mill near by. It should be a pretty area for leaf viewing near the end of October. If you feeling like driving a little further, to the Smokies, but don't want to deal with the crowd at Elkmont or Cades Cove, Look Rock Campground is on the Foothills Parkway. We drove over there last sunday to check out Abrams Creek Campground and ran across this place. It has paved roads and bathrooms, looks really nice and there was not a soul in the whole place.except for the Host. He looked really bored too. The one problem with it is you will have to drive to whatever you want to do, but the views are beautiful and again, if leaf viewing is your thing, that could be a real diamond in the rough in October. We decided to hit Abrams Creek here around the end of the month. It's rustic and small and really set up for tent camping, which is what we do. There are only 16 sites, but there is a bath house and water. There are also some good hiking trails and fishing if you are into that sort of thing. Good luck with your quest for a camping area! Seems like we are getting a lot of camping threads on this sub-forum. It makes me wonder if we don't need a Camping and Hiking Sub-forum. Thoughts?

That was a pretty impressive video! I've never owned a pistol, but I have owned the 9mm carbine and it was a fun rifle to shoot., but only with HP magazines. I never had much luck with the after market mags. Plenty accurate too, minute of man at 100 yards, no problem. That would be all I asked of it. They are a PITA to breakdown, but as OS once said, "It's a High Point, why bother to clean it.".

Unless there are some unofficial ranges out there, you will more than likely need to join a club. ORSA in Oak Ridge has a 1000 yard range with firing lines at 200, 400, 600 and 1000. The Chattanooga Rifle Club has a 500 yard range with firing line set up at 200 and 300 yards. I think the club fee at ORSA is around $120+ and I think you need to be a member of the NRA. These ranges also may only be open to match shooting as well. So you might want to check about practice time availability before you join one of them.

The only centerfire .22 I know of is the .22 Hornet. Don't see many rifles in this caliber and I've never seen a pistol, except for a TC Contender.

They can't deny it. He sure did deny it though. I just saw him make a statement about how we have had 30 straight months of jobs growth and how his administration has created over 4.6 million jobs during his term. I heard on a talking head on NPR yesterday, that said just to break even, we need to create 150,000 jobs a month. Big difference between 150,000 and 93,000. I bet that number will be altered down by the end of the month. They usually do downgrade them after all the information is analysed. Also that 4.6 million jobs number is the gross. We have lost 4.3 million jobs over the same period, which shows a net of 300,000 jobs net. Sounds like it's far from a healthy economy to me. But what to I do. I'm just a dumb citizen. I need the Government to come and run my life for me.

What a bunch of morons!!!

Thanks, that's not far from where I work!

Sell it. They will not give you anything for it.

He could offer the guy what it's worth and pick up a good beater pistol. It's probably worth $300. Did your friend ever get a chance to shoot it?
-
I sure hope we see the dismantling of the Patriot Act in my lifetime. In my mind it's the single most scary thing our Government has ever done to us.
-
Live and learn. Shoot the thing and enjoy it. Learn to detail strip it. Add some new parts. Make it a race gun. It will make a super learner pistol! Your friend can have a lot of fun with it. He just needs to remember the lesson of "know what your are buying".

Fantastic job!!! It really turned out great! Congratulations on a great rifle!

Folks that I know that are gay, could care less what any church thinks. That's not to say there are some out there that are this way though. Rather the ones I know, just want to be treated fairly by society and have the same benefits as straight couples. And I think it will happen. Being Gay is no problem to my kid's generation. They are very open and accepting about it in High School now. Another hurtle was crossed when Gays were accepted into the Military. It may not happen overnight, but within the next 10-20 years, I believe it will.

The easy way around all this is for Government bodies to recognize only Civil Unions, after a certain date. Governmental bodies would no longer issue Marriage Licenses. Rather a Civil Union Contract would be drawn up between the people in the relationship and would be the legal defining document for benefits, adoption, divorce, inheritance, etc. If couples wish to go further and have the recognized religious organization of their choice, marry them, then they may do that. Let religious institutions recognize "Marriage" and Governmental Bodies recognize Civil Unions, but not Marriage. All Marriage Licenses issued prior to the "Certain Date" would still be recognized, but as a Civil Union.

Well, went to SMKW's today and picked up a Colt Baby Clip Point Hunter. For the money it was more like what I was looking for. The fit and finish are quite good for a cheap knife. It could and will be sharper this evening. That will give me some idea of what kind of knife it is. I was not able to find out what kind of Stainless Steel they use. I believe it is made by United Cutlery under the Colt Brand. It's a light knife but the grip feels good in my hand. I tried out the Boker Rambler, but it was a bit more skinny and wasn't as comfortable in my hand. One thing I liked about the Baby Hunter is it can take a lanyard. I think I will make a box lanyard for it, out of 550 paracord. That will extend the grip a bit more and make it more stable in the hand. I may also make a leather pocket sheath for it, like what comes with the A.G. Russell Woodswalker. The sheath that comes with the colt is a basic nylon sheath with a plastic liner in it. It can be carried on the belt or hand from a lanyard via a ring on the end of the sheath. It's light and retains the knife securely and seems to be well made. http://www.smkw.com/...ndle/CT424.html If I like carrying a small fixed blade, then at some point I may step up to a ESEE Candiru or Izula. I really liked both of these, but they were more than I was welling to pay at the moment. One of those may end up as a Christmas gift to myself, along with a set of scales.
