1. I have an old LeRoy system.  I think it predates the Lansky 2 stone system.  I've had it forever (I bought it in the 80's).  But I just use the "stones"  I don't bother with guide or angles.  I lay the blade down at the angle I think is best and lightly push throw the "stone".  As long as it's good steel, I seem to always get a razor sharp edge.  I use the oil that came with the kit.      The easiest knives to sharpen seem to be my Mora's with the scandi grinds.  They sharpen right up, scary sharp!  The hardest knife I have had to sharpen is tied between my old Custom Taylor made Puma Style fixed blade in surgical steel (very hard steel, it's also in my avatar) and a recently purchased Colt Small Clip Point fixed blade like this one here.  http://www.knifecountryusa.com/store/product/138674.138703/colt-knives-424-clip-point-fixed-blade-knife-with-checkered-black-wood-handles.html .  It has taken me a while to get it to where it will take the hair off my leg.  I finally got it to that point this weekend.   WOW!  Every so often I go up on EBAY and try to find my old Taylor Custom.  Well today is the day!  I found it!  Here it is. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Taylor-Field-Camp-Survival-Fighting-Knife-Made-in-Japan-/251145849651?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item3a79758b33e   I have the original sheath though.  I got this at a Knife Store on the second floor of East Town Mall back in the early 80's.  It was being sold at a discount due to some some scratches on the blade.  I've carried this knife in the field throughout my Army days and during Desert Storm.
2. Just because it was done in the past, does not make it right today. This is another step closer to Authoritarian rule.  Both sides are to blame for this as well.  Don't just point the finger at Obama and his administration.  W started a lot of this crap.  The current administration is just carrying on what he started.
3. Which one did you get?
4. While that argument seems sensible to me, that will not be what will be hammered on by the Press in this country.
5. Weapons found on the shooter were a Glock 9mm and a Sig Sauer.  There was also a Bushmaster rifle in the shooter's car, per CBS News. One source stated that the weapons were legally purchased by the shooter.
6. CBS News is reporting that the Principal and Lanza got into a shouting match and that someone in the office tripped the intercom system for the school and the argument was heard throughout the school. Some one was thinking!  They were warning the teachers that something was wrong and many of the teachers immediately locked down their classrooms.   Also Lanza had no criminal record... or at least one hasn't been found yet.
7. CBS News has identified the shooter as a Ryan Lanza.  The person that has been found dead in a residence, connected to him, may be his mother, who is a teacher at this school. And at least some of those dead were in her class.
8. I think you are right DS.  This will be used as a sledge hammer against the 2nd Amendment.
9. Hearing that LE searched a home, presumably the Shooter's residence and that another body has been found.  CBS News is reporting that the shooter is young and that he is originally from out of state (NJ), but lived in the area.
10. Ms. Harwell, who let you on this board?
11. Man that looks sharp!!! I'd love to have one of those. It's hard to find a good wool coat anymore. Everything is synthetic, now a days.
12. Mine weren't scary sharp and I'm not that impressed with how well they hold an edge either. But they are pretty handy to have around. My Rough Rider Copperhead holds an edge better. Of course, it's harder to sharpen too.

AK vs. SKS

I'd recommend purchasing a Saiga in whatever caliber you want (5.45x39,.223, 7.62x39 to .308). They usually start around $375 and go up. It's an undressed AK. You can make back into an AK for around another $150 or leave it in that configuration and spend the extra money on ammunition. Personally, I would purchase one along with the ammo and save up and buy my new parts a bit at a time.
14. I have two SAKs setting right by my chair as I type this. One is the Swiss Champ and the other is a Tinker. I intend to purchase a Wenger Standard Issue (Wenger on the bottom of wjh2657's pic above) or a Victorinox Farmer. The Farmer is almost considered to be an essential part of any Bushcrafter's kit these days! My EDC almost everyday is a 1979 Camillus U.S. Knife with about 6-ft of orange 550 paracord for a lanyard. The U.S, Knife is our military's version of the SAK Standard Issue. Some of my pocket knives. I love slip joints! Top Row: Rough Rider Copperhead Second Row: Kutmaster Girlscout Knife, Imperial Camp King Third Row: Camillus Electrician Knife Fourth Row: Camillus U.S. Knife, Rough Rider Scout Knife Fifth Row: Opinel No. 9 sixth Row: My two SAKs Seventh Row: Svord Peasant Eigth Row: Kissing Crane Large Brown Mule
15. First of all, if you are planning on carrying gear, food and water for two people, then you need two packs and each pack should have all the needs for the person who is carrying it. Second, where are you trying to get too and how long will it take you to walk there? From that, you can figure out how much food and water you will have to carry with you. Mine is set up for 72 hours and I call it a Get Home Bag. It's just in 3600 cu in range.
16. Lot of smoke too! Makes your wonder how they fought with those things! After the first two shots, you would have a hard time seeing your opponent!
17. Sweet! Nice looking hawg leg!!!
18.
The gun is chambered for .357mag, weenie. - OS
Poor weenie to you, kind sir!!! A 100 rounds of Remington .357 125gr SJHP was $50! That was what I was originally going for. I've got a bunch of 38 brass. Plan on buying some bullets and primers and getting a friend to reload them for me. Looking at .357 rifles on Gunbroker now!!! This is getting expensive!!!
19.
Thanks. They have a pretty good holster selection in the Midway site. Not all cowboy style...
I know! I picked one out last night!!! http://www.midwayusa.com/product/327105/hunter-1090-single-loop-crossdraw-holster-right-hand-colt-single-action-army-ruger-old-army-blackhawk-vaquero-4-3-4-to-5-1-2-barrel-leather-antique-brown Went by Wallyworld and picked up a 100 round box of .38spl +P 124 SJHP for $34! I'm ready for Saturday to roll around!!!
20. I will be sure to check her out, OS! Thanks for the info! That is the type of holster I am looking for. The cowboy holsters are bit too flamboyant for me. I wouldn't mind a cross draw though. Mikegideon, that is a great looking pistol there!
21. I brought home a "new to me" pistol this afternoon and let the kids handle it. Took the time to explain gun safety again for the 1099th time (You can't do it enough!). And talked about how the the whole thing worked, until they got a glazed over look on their face. Then let them move on. I don't want there to be any mystery about my firearms. If they have a question about one, then we set down and talk about it and check it out. Promised my son we'd go to the range this weekend if possible. Time to blast some .22 and some .38's in this new pistol!
22. What is a good inexpensive holster for a Ruger Blackhawk in 4 5/8" barrel? I don't really want a western style, but I would like leather. I'd like to keep it around $30 if possible.
23. Sweet! Pretty dang good looking knives!!!
24.
I have a feeling this is being blown up because it was her "Service Weapon". Had it been a personally owned handgun there probably wouldn't have been as much of a to do. Stupid all the same, a gun is a gun.
I suspect the mother and father are in the middle of a custody dispute and the dad saw a chance to stir the pot. Total BS!
25. What about a bugout bag for each with some necessities like paracord, a small stove, water bottle, etc,etc...
