I'll give you three. And I would be quite happy with anyone of them. Keep in mind, that I am not looking for a firefight. I am looking to survive and put food in my belly (which is large). Also I want to make sure whatever I am carrying is going to be easy to fix if it breaks. There are not going to be any gunsmith services available in the "Grand New World". I picked things that were robust and easily repaired.. No. 1 - A .22 tube fed bolt action or a single shot. Few parts to be lost or broken and simple in operation. .22 is usually a pretty common and easy to find ammunition. Ammunition is light weight so you can carry quite a bit. Probably more bad guys have been put down with the lowly .22 than any other caliber. No. 2 - A 12 ga shotgun. Anything found in North America, can be brought down with a 12 ga. given the right ammunition. I would probably opt for a single shot for this. Again because they are simple to operate and have few parts to break. They are also pretty light weight, so they wouldn't be a pain to carry. The one draw back to the 12 ga is that shells take up a lot of space and are heavy. A 20 or 25 round box of 12 is about the same size as a brick of .22 (500). No. 3 - AK 47, because it's the simplest auto, I have ever seen. Goes bang every time, is tough as nails and is pretty much idiot proof. And comes in a several good calibers. I would also carry .357 mag revolver. Again, simple to maintain, with few parts to break or lose. .38/357 is a popular ammunition is a easy to find.

I knew Vermont would not go for this rubbish. Seems like most of it was stirred up by outsiders. Seems there are some democrats with common sense out there!

If you are set on carrying that much weight, I would go with a true hiking backpack with an internal frame. The weight is distributed much better.than is a Assault Pack. A lot of them have the pouch for a hydration pouch too.

FYI on Mayor Trying to Put Squeeze on Gun Manufacturers.
Moped replied to TNRat's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If I were the major firearms manufacturers, I would refuse to sell to cities that back such nonsense. That would be like cutting of your nose to spite your face. No way the MIL/LE Market is as big as the civilian market I figure at best they are about equal. No company wants to see their sells cut in half, by supporting such idiocy! -
I carry an extra pair of glasses in my GHB. Last time I had glasses made, I went to WallyWorld. They had two for $70, so I had two pair made. One went immediately into my bag. Getting ready to do it again. Hope I can find the same deal. I think this time I will have the GHB pair made as a pair of safety glasses.

Ain't nothing lucky about it. When the heck will spring get here? We got about an 1.5" in about 30 minutes here in North Knoxville. I'm getting too old for this crap. :(

Small group coffee and discussion Knoxville area

I'd love too. I bet it would be the safest place in Knoxville! -
Interesting that the guy (Markos Moulitsas, who founded and runs the DailyKos was once a Republican Precinct Captain in Chicago. He is from El Salvador. His family fled here to the States after being threatened by the Communists. He was in the U.S. Army and that was where he started turning to the darkside. He stated that he like the Army, because you worked hard and return the Army took care of you... Sounds a bit communist when you think about it. Something tells me that in fact he is a Communist, supporting the Democratic Party.

Feinstein and others on Face The Nation today.
Moped replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I heard a sound bit from Obama today. "That means passing serious laws that restrict the access and availability of assault weapons and magazine clips that aren't necessary for hunters and sportsmen and those responsible gun owners who are out there." So I guess the rest of us (a large number of us, I believe) just got designated as "irresponsible", because we own modern sporting weapons, that take detachable magazines. :( -
Women can't effectively handle assult weapons
Moped replied to jcoosi's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What a bunch of BS drivel! McCarthy is a total moron as evidenced in that video. -
I hope you corrected him on the spot by substituting his firearm of choice and "adding why do we need such a weapon?" behind it? We need to keep all firearms owners in line on this or we are sunk!!!

I personally don't think Clinton will run in 2016. She will be 69 and I suspect her health is not the best as evidenced recently. Back to the topic at hand; I totally agree with the OP. I've noticed an alarming trend in the last two elections, with the major news outlets putting their most liberal attack dogs on the Republican Candidate's campaign trail. This year it seemed to me to be Andrea Mitchell. It was very evident that she was no friend to to Romney and seemed to go out of her way to only report negative articles about Romney. There were others too, but she stood out from the bunch. Yet there was no such journalist or group reporting on the Obama campaign. We are starting to see the press side once again with Obama new pushes for social change. Lots of negative reporting on the conservative push back, but all happy, happy reporting on the President's agenda. It's sickening to watch, honestly. There was a time when the press was the foil against bad Government. Seems that's not the case anymore. They are in bed with the Government. If you don't believe me, watch all the political shows this morning and you will see. There will be a group of talking heads most of whom are liberals, with a moderate or conservative (if they want to be edgy) thrown into the mix for "balance". East Tennessee Patriot may have it right on how to control them though. If enough pressure can be placed on their advertisers, then some of these shenanigans might stop. The companies to target are almost all, Wall Street type companies. They are Insurance companies and Investment Funds. The problem is most are tied to our 401Ks. Hard to boycott them, when you don't have a choice on who you get to use.

I hope NY Gun Owners go for this as well! I'd like to see them start protesting in Albany! They need to really start pushing back and pushing back hard! Then when election time rolls around start voting the bass-tards out of office!!!

Leon Panetta lifts ban on women in combat.
Moped replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have no problem with this as long as a woman can pass the same PT test. I think they should also include a fireman's carry in the PT test as well. I do know women that could pass the PT test with flying colors and perform a proper fireman's carry. If they can do that, I don't see how you can keep them out. -
I think the main roads in Knoxville are still good, but the side roads are pretty bad. My chariot (AKA Minivan) in encased in ice. Luckily I am off today, but I have no intention of leaving the confines of my recliner, other than for eating and bathroom breaks!!! :)

Knox County School System has their on armed security people with police powers. It's not unheard of. I think they have about 10 of 15 officers on staff. http://www.wate.com/story/19250252/knox-county-school-security-officers-train-with-police-for-first-time Now what is sad is that this was the first time they have trained together. All three departments should be training together regularly. But I know how that goes between local jurisdictions.

Home Defense Weapon- Loaded Overnight?
Moped replied to superduty's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I always have a revolver loaded and near me. Shotgun is loaded, but not racked and locked in the safe during the day. I get it out at night and it stays by the bed. In the morning it goes back in again.
