  I don't think it's down the tubes.  There may be some hiccups for a bit and there will be some churches that leave the BSA program and migrate to AWWANA, or whatever it's called, but other groups will pick up the slack.  Sex will not be allowed to be discussed, as has always been the case.  The thing that will change is that if a boy come out or is outed, he won't be tossed out.     Love Girl Scout Cookies!  That just means there's more Samoas and Thin Mints for me!!! :)   Just wanted to second what TripleDigitRide said about discussions and how I feel about everyone here. :)

One reason that gays want the Scouts to stop the nonsense, is that when gay boys were found out, whether they came out on their own or were outed by someone else, they were immediately kicked out of scouts.  True, this is a private organization, but it's still discrimination, any way you look at it.  Gays are not looking for their on special rights, they just want to be treated like everyone else, which means they are treated fairly and humanely; not like the pariahs, as they are at times now.   As to abuse, I'd say there is by far much more abuse perpetuated on children of both sexes, by straight family members, than by gay men, inside or outside the family.  Sexual child abuse, just like rape, is a crime of power and dominance, that uses sex for that end.   As for BSA and any kind of child abuse, if you are or were an adult affiliated with scouting, either as an Assistant Scout Master, Scout Master, or a Troop Committee Member, you know that  the BSA and Scout Troops practice Two Deep Leadership for meetings, events and outings.  That means there is no one-on-one private interaction between an adult and a Scout.  If a Scout Master needs to talk to a Scout about a private matter, he has to have another adult present or have that meeting in a room where the door is open and in full view of other adults.  If a troop is at camp, and for some reason a Scout Master must go into the shower with a boy, then two adults must go in.  All adults in leadership positions are required to go through a background check EVERY YEAR, as long as they are affiliated with Scouting.  When I was an Assistant Scout Master, when our troop was on an outing, we usually had as many fathers and older brothers with the troop, as we had Scouts.  And most of the Troops we interacted with, were the same way.  I won't say abuse cannot happen, but I will say it's would be damned hard.    Also, I've seen some of you talk about older boys praying on younger boys.  That is also something that would not be easy, since most troops divide their Patrols up by age group.  If they get a whole Cub Scout unit coming into their Troop, that specific group stays together in a Patrol.  That's what happened with my son's Cub Scout unit.  We all went to the same Boy Scout Troop as a new Patrolch elected their own leadership.  On outings, each patrol planned their part of the outing and they worked together as a Patrol, just like how in the Army, squads work together.  Again, I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I'm saying it would be hard.  Scouting is now set up to protect kids.

BSA recognizes many different Christian Sects as well as many religions outside Christianity. Within the Christian Sects are Catholics, most, if not all Protestant groups, Church of Later Day Saints (which sponsors more Troops than any other religious organization in the USA, yet is not recognized by many other Christian sects) and many others.  Jewish and Unitarian Universalists are also recognized.  Hindus, Jian, Muslims and Zoroastrains are recognized as well.  All use the same Scout Oath.  The word God is used to represent an individual Scout's belief ideals, and not a specific entity or belief system.    Remember also, that not all Troops are sponsored by religious organizations. About 30% are sponsored by secular organizations, that have no adherence to a belief system, yet those Scouts also say the same oath.  But that oath does not bind a Scout to particular belief set or religion. not does BSA promote any particular belief set.   To argue that BSA is a Christian organization, to me, is ludicrous.  Consequently, I think it's shameful to exclude any child from an organization due to their perceived or open sexual orientation. That should not even be a matter of discussion.   Of course, it's my belief that in another generation, this conversation will not be happening.   My kid's generation is much more accepting of homosexuality than ours was, much as our generation is more accepting or racial equality, as compared to our parents.and grandparents.

  That can't happen.  As any Cub Scout parent knows, Cub Scouts are not allowed to go on overnight camp outs with out a parent or guardian being present.  The rules are very specific and strict.  Cub Scouts cannot become Boy Scouts until they are 11 years old.  Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are entirely two different organizations under the BSA Organization.   Also under BSA organization are Venturing.  Venturing includes young men and WOMEN,14 to 21.  And they do all thing same things Scouting does.  Many Boy Scouts go on to become Venture Scouts and many are both.

Listen, once a blade comes out, unless they got a gun, no one wants to cut, regardless of the size.

The CRKT Minimalist Bowie is one I would buy if I could find one, locally.  I also like the CRKT SPEW, and the Boker Rambler, But  the one that I would really like to have is the Esee Izula.II  I never was much of an Eskabar fan for the same reason as you, OS.  There isn't much of a point for defensive purposes.

To me, anything over 4" or 5" is a big knife.  For a general use fixed blade knife, I like a blade between 3.5 to 4" inches.  But I have a Joe Hargis Custom, that I find very handy.  For pocket carry, my tastes very depending on my mood, so I'm not sure that I'm a good gage.  I might carry anything from a Camillus U.S. Knife made in 1982, to an Opinel No. 9, to a Case Sodbuster, to a RAT 3.So that's a blade length of 2.5" to 3.75".

Unless a future President pulls out of the treaty, before the Senate can ratify it. 

So what you are looking for is a dagger.  A 4" long blade is pretty large for a neck knife.  I would think it would be hard to conceal, depending on your body type.  You might have better luck with a push dagger design like a Cold Steel Urban Pal or a Safe Keeper.

Shockingly terrible!   Hearing that they had evacated the 4th and 5th graders out of harms way to a nearby church , but didn't have enough buses to get the K thru 3rd graders out.

I'd filter it.  Honestly, it's not hard to make a filter for rain water.  Look it up on the internet.  All the things you need are easily available in abundance.  There are lots of plans on line.

Personally, think the ID for a gun blue kit is stupid, but I do like Academy Sports.  for all the reasons noted above, plus they have good camping gear there cheap.  Was in there looking for an air rifle or pistol on Friday.  They had a good deal on the Crosman 1377 if anyone is looking for one, $39.  Almost bought it, but I was looking for one in .22.

I'm 50 years old now and I've never changed the transmission fluid in any vehicle I've owned.  I've never had a problem.  Got a Nissan Quest, which is perhaps the most expensive vehicle I've owned and it has around 160k on it and it's going strong.  Don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon,as it paid off and is now classified as the best vehicle in the world.  This is also the last new vehicle I will ever purchase as well.  Buying new is a total waste of money, since it depreciates 25% the minute you drive it off the lot.  Got a 99 Maxima that we purchased 5 years ago for $6000 and 110K on it.  It's got close to 200k on it now and I've paid very little for maintence beyond an oil change every 6k miles. new tires and brake pads.  Paid it of in 3 years.  It also classifies as the best car ever!   I look at cars as a necessary evil and not an extension of my personality.  Money I save on cheap cars, goes towards stuff I like to do like shoot, camp, attend my kids sports events, read and just about everything else in life.

Thanks for all the posts here!  I got my first serious entry level air rifle yesterday and have already put around 75 pellets down range in my new backyard range!  It's nice not to have to load up and go to the range, when you want to do a little shooting.  I picked up a Benjamin Titan .22 yesterday at a local pawn shop for $65.  This was my 50th birthday present to myself.   I've been wanting a somewhat serious air rifle for about a year now, but decided this week to pull the trigger so to speak.  So on my day off, yesterday, I went around Knoxville checking out what everyone had to offer, which really wasn't much.  I had a bit of time to kill before picking up my youngest at school and stopped in at a pawn shop near our house.  And low and behold there was a Benjamin Titan GP .22 on the wall!  I walked out with it and after picking her up at school we went to Wallyworld for some pellets and a trap.  The trap was actually probably a waste of money, because it's not going to last long.  At 10 yards, the .22 Crosman Premiere HP pellets are  denting it up pretty bad.   I was watching EdGunUSA last night and he was talking about a pellet box with several different makes and weights of pellets that one of the major internet sellers what selling.  I may investigate that.  Sounds like an easy way to to tryout the various brands of pellets available, to see which one works best with your rifle.   Here are the links to the Straight Shooters Full Pellet Samplers.   .177 - http://www.straightshooters.com/straight-shooters-full-pellet-sampler-.177.html   .22 - http://www.straightshooters.com/straight-shooters-full-pellet-sampler-.22.html

That will not happen.  Obama is not that stupid and it he actually tried, the House and Senate would shoot it down quickly.  Washington Politicians do not want to run for re-election with such a tax in place.

Come on down to Tennessee, patron state of shootin' stuff!  You will like it here.  We have good hunting, mild winters, and no state taxes.  We have mountains, valleys, plains, lots of lakes and rivers for fishing.  We have large cities and small ones.  If you can think of it, we probably have it. Maybe not on the scale of NYC, but we are happy with it! :)   I recommend you come down for a vacation and travel the state to see what area you might like.

I think you are right.  The Press seems to be turning on the Obama Administration, a bit.  Like the sharks they are, they are smelling blood and starting to circle.  Want to bet on whether or not the current administration, throws Hilary under the bus, if the attention starts getting too hot? :)

I don't see it being tested anytime soon either.  Got to have someone willing to spend time in the pokey if we lose and I don't see any takers yet.
