I think you will be happy with your choice. Check around for one of those miitary surplus sheaths for it. They were the plastic pea green color sheaths with the built in sharpener (which is junk in my opinion). They are 10 times the sheath, compared to the nylon sheath that comes with it. If you treat it as a knife and not a disposable razor (like I tend to look at machetes; they are tools made to be abused and replaced when no longer usable), you might even want to step up to a leather sheath for it.

Mosins at Gander Mountain Knoxville

If you want a "cheap" Mil Surp, you'd better get it now. I think Mosins will be the last big time imports of Mil Surp into this country, unless we see a change in the Washington administration. -
18" for clearing work is fine, but if I'm dealing with lots of briars, longer is better. If you are looking for an occassional chopper/camp knife, then 10" to 12".

Sounds like both were dumba$$es and niether needs to be driving a car and one certainly doesn't need to own a firearm, period! You all know I for constitutional carry and hate background checks, but it's crap like this that makes me think differently sometimes. MORONS! -
Trams are the standard. Realize that they don't come very sharp and you will have to work on the edge a bit. And they don't come with a sheath. Just get you a "C" Clamp and a bastard file and sharpen it up and it will do what you want it to do. We used Collins Latin style machetes on the survey crew I was on in the 80's and that's how we sharpened them up. I've had good luck with CS. I have an older Kopis with a real sharp point that has worked well for me. But if I had it to do over again, I'd go with an Ontario or spend a bit more and get a Condor. They are a bit more expensive, but they are better quality too. Ontarios come in 1095, and in two blade thicknesses (get the thicker one), with a nylon sheath in 12" or 18" and have either a regular or "D-Guard" hilt and either a plain or saw toothed back. They are hard to beat. Condors are also great purchases. They tend to be a little more, but they make just about every style of machete found in the world! They are either stainless or 1075. They almost always come with a quality leather sheath. I honestly, think they are the best deal on the market and they are usually under $50. So if you want one that is going to last a life time go with one of these two makers. Of course, that's just my opinion. But if price is an issue and you really want to stay cheap, go with the Tram.

I don't carry a boot knife anymore. When I did, it was a little Gerber Mk1. I don't think they make then anymore, though. IF I were to go back to one, today, I'd look at a Blackjack Mini Halo. But they are a bit on the pricy side. http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/Knifeware%2C+Inc./Blackjack%C2%AE+Mini-Halo+Boot+Knife+with+Green+Canvas+Micarta+Handle/BJCB12GM.html

Dicks won't have d-i-c-k! They got out of the gun business after Sandyhook. -
Would you be leery of a used BP revolver?

I'd love to have a conversion for my Pietta Remington '58!!! I'd love to be able to shoot cowboy loads through it!!! -
Wow! Would have hated to be one of those artillarymen that were ordered to follow the infantry, unarmed! Thanks for sharing this! Very interesting! Where did you find this book?

You know, this wasn't a "bad" thing until the DOJ went after the AP and FOX phone records. It was treated as "tinfoil hat" stuff by the MSM. Now that the press felt a little heat, they are going after the Intelligence Community and the DOJ with a vengence! About time too, IMO!!! The Obama Administration agenda is getting totally derailed by all this. I LOVE IT!!! And here is a word or two for my NSA "friends". My head is about to EXPLODE! I think I ate too much PORK! I have to pick up my B-I-L at the AIRPORT on the 26th! Reckon I'm on yet another list. Oh well! :)

I don't think there is a better made .22 semi-auto out there, than the Ruger Mk series of pistols!

He is another 17 year old dumbass. -
I think this is a horrible decision. What happened to innocent until proven guilty. Yet another right down the drain.

I am not surprised that some churches and even whole sects have and will ban BSA. My son's troop was sponsored by a church who wanted to replace the Scouts with the AWANA program. Unfortunately for preacher, the head of the Scout Committee, had more power than he did, so Scouts stayed, along with AWANA. I suspect that the preacher will get his way now. I don't think it will matter much though. The Scout Master, knowing him, has a back up plan, and some place to take his troop too. Yes, this decision will hurt Scouting for a while, but they will recover and find more friendly churches or some secular organizations to sponsor Troops. They will also raise more money from companies, that would not otherwise support them, because of they have change the policy baring gay scouts. My personal belief is that sex has not part in Scouts, so regardless of whether a boy is gay or straight, it should not matter. Also, for the person that brought up co-ed units, BSA already has that. It's called Venture Scouts.

I never thought I would want one of these...

Really nice pick up! Congrats!!! -
I have one of those! It resides next to my bed. The first pistol I bought, was a S&W Mdl 13 with a 4" barrel. It was ok, but had a tendency to lock up when you tried to open the cylinder after 12 rounds. It would eventually open after a little effort. I traded it later for a Ruger Mini 14. It was my first attempt at a love affair with the Minis. There was one more attempt. I will never have another. I much prefer the AK over the Mini. My Saiga is much more accurate after it heats up and runs like a scalded dog!

They are getting hard to find and expensive too. Check your local surplus stores, and if you have no luck there, go online and see what is available.

That's the way a company should be, TGO David!

Gov. Haslam: No need for more state gun legislation
Moped replied to Garufa's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
That's why I am turning more and more into a Libertarian. I don't think Haslam will run for President, yet. I think he will run for Lamar's Senate seat, first. Then use that as a stepping stone. He will not get my vote. -
There is no need for that tone. Garufu is an upstanding guy and has been a member here for a very long time. I'm also sure he ais quite familiar with what Dura Coat is. The pistol in question would be worth a lot more left in it's current state, than if it were refinished. I believe that was what Garufu was pointing out. Also agree that all the pistol needs is a good cleaning and a little range work.

I Will Not Be Buying Anything Else From Staples
Moped replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The fact that they set such a policy is enough for me to do no more business with them. I really don't care when they set their policy. Obviously, others think the same way I do. They are getting hammered on their FB Page. I already have several LIKES for the post I placed there.
