I initially thought just go with 5.56/.223 as ammo is going to be a lot easier to find, regardless of the current situation, but taking a chance for the cost of a ticket on something one normally would not buy could have appeal as well.

I don't know of anyone my self but make sure you find someone that knows what they're doing. Cracked receivers are not unknown when removing the barrel from an M1917. CMP does provide that service if you are a customer and want to send it off. -

It's a trip. You could spend an hour in there just trying to figure out what everything is. If nothing else, it's the best place to get Sriracha sauce. They sell great big things of it way cheaper than anywhere else.
