  1. Good to see you again too. There were alot of M1 carbines in the house. There was the one guy who is always there with his display of refurbs (put back into WWII configuration). Very nice stuff. There was the lady, who on her table had an Enfield M1 Carbine! Big sign hanging off of it and everything. She could not be convinced that Enfield did not make that IBM Carbine but I really didn't try to hard. There was a table with two Rock-Ola carbines. One for $500 the other $550. I kid you not. Rock-Ola receivers and barrels. One had a Rock-Ola recoil plate. They were rough looking. One was a Blue Sky import and had that clearly engraved on the barrel. So that ruins one. The other may have been an import with markings under the wood. I just don't know. The $550 one had better finish but was still rough with M2 slide and stock. As rare as those are I walked. Just did not have a good feeling about them. With these things sometimes the parts are worth more than the whole but me, I don't want to fool around with worrying about B.S. imports ,which are reputed to have problems or worthless barrrels, welded receivers, etc. I may be a fool, but the Holy Grail of carbines does not jump out at a boy like me for that price nor are I inclined to buy the thing just for the receiver. They were there all day.
  2. Well, If you can't amuse yourself then how can you any others.
  3. I agree with you 100%. No doubt it's a nice looking gun and definitely not one you see much.
  4. I reckon this might be it... http://www.sunblest.net/gun/Hege66.htm The one that said 9mm Mak on the side may be what I ended up taking home. Mak - Mac, hey wanna make a deal?

    CZ 75 Compact

I'd take a look at the CZ 75 D PCR. Hard to find but has alloy frame and better sights. The decocker on CZ's are odd to me in that it drops hammer to half-cock. But you can dire DA from there. I'm used to decockers just dropping the hammer all the way.
  6. John did indeed go back in and took another look at those Rock-Ola carbines. As tempting as it was I had to pass. At the prices he had on them either he is a complete dolt or there were some issues with them. I just don't get windfalls like that! Did wander around one more time and Mike, I picked up that PA-63 from that fella you got your .32 from (If that silver base-plated magazine you got doesn't hold .32s, let me know). Accurate reports so far. Lot's of stuff kinda high, but did see a couple of possible deals. Brand new looking EMP for $750, brand new SA 1911 Stainless for $600. On the other end of the spectrum, the lone LCP in the place was going, and apparently went for $550!!! and it was a recall model to boot. Saw a couple of RRA AR lowers for $300/ea. I see a 10/22 in Mac's future but most there were on the high-side. Daniel, don't take any ragging on whether your jacket stunk or not. Half the people in there smelled like they just rolled around in a freshly-turded dog house!
  7. I'm gonna meet up with you guys if I can. Is that 9 at the door or 9 in line? I'll be under a little black umbrella since it's gonna be nasty and I have no shame.
  8. Welcome. You gotta be cool. The state's got 90 days to issue. This time last year they were taking darn near all of it. Feel good that you might only need to wait a month.
  9. Why don't you put in one of those old carnival Thompson's? You get 100 bb's, fully auto, to shot out that little red star. Great fund for the family!
  10. Bingo! The state system was NOT checking all resources due to some bureaucratic foul-up. I remember the story, not the details, but there were flaws in the system that I assume have now been worked out. So yes, people were being issued permits that should not have them. If "journalists" would do some homework they'd realize this and stop sensationalizing the supposed random issuing of guns to anyone who wants one.
  11. Enfield bullpup.
  12. If you plan on "steppin-out" check out Robert's Western World down there by Tootsies. I've never been disappointed with the music and tourist watching there. Just don't eat anything or buy any boots.

    Big gun auction

I first thought that this was one big estate! It's gotta be from at least two: one from a guy who liked quality firearms and another from one who was well, cheap.

    My Kahr=crap

I think Kahr will make things right and personally would trust the gun more after a thorough factory inspection and repair. My understanding is they have great customer service. The big question is what are you going to get for your troubles? I hope at least an extra magazine (or two). Breaking in a CW40 is not cheap, nor will it be again. If you or anyone else needs Kahr mags, here's where I got a spare for my CW9. Best price I could find. http://www.ivanhoeoutlet.com/shop/index.php?action=category&id=13&subid=36
  15. Are they the big hairy ones?

    Ruger LCP

All MSRP prices have gone up. I'm thinking that normally happens after the Shot Show. At least is my theory based on a recent discussion at a local dealer one week after the show and their confirmation of that theory. MSRP on S&W M&P's are now well over $700. Just another yearly price increase that cost of living raises, if you are fortunate enough to get one, cannot keep up with.
  17. You remember correctly, there aren't any screws in a Garand trigger group (I just looked at one). Have you checked out the CMP forum? If there's an answer you can find it there.
  18. Congratulations! Serial # puts receiver in March '45. That barrel marking has me stumped. That's under the op rod right? Sounds after-market. If you've got a digital camera we can walk you through getting a Photobucket setup to post pics. Need to drool!

    Radar Detectors

The best radar detector is FREE. If you've got two eyes in good condition you should be able to spot the popo before he spots you! If the detector sounds you may already be gunned. All depends on the circumstances.
  20. Congrats! Have you strutted your stuff up at Wal-Mart yet! You don't graduate until you do.
  21. Keep the gun. Sell the 32 auto ammo!
  22. I'm keepin' my Wal-Mart a secret! Every since this ammo buying frenzy started they have ALWAYS had 9mm BB. To the point that I went out, bought a new delivery device or two and have started shooting 9 M.M. again! They never have anything else though.
  23. Yes. That's a good deal. Die sets alone are usually in the $30-$35 dollar range. A new Rock Chucker kit is not cheap at all. Age is not really a big deal. There may be some other incidentals you'll need but that's a great start. Are the adverstised calibers ones that you reload? Even if not you could sell those and get what you need. Yes, you can reload pistol calibers if you have the correct dies.
  24. Not if you leave a few $$ on the nightstand. I hate to quote a hippy bumper sticker around here but it makes perfect sense to me when interpreted and applied. "Think Globally, Act Locally". Rephrase that to say "Think Nationally, Act Locally". The dolts in DC aren't annointed overnight. Every one of them comes from some local or state level position. The ass-hats many people vote for do make it to Washington. I take local elections just as seriously as national. One, because the local politicos can do far more damage in the short-term and two, they may just make it to the big leagues one day.
