For that distance I would recommend a gas-operated semi-auto if you are recoil sensitive. You can shoot a heavier bullet with the recoil reduction that gas guns provide. Something along the lines of a Remington Woodsmaster which comes in a proper caliber like 30-06 , but also in 308, 270, 243 and some other obscure sizes.

How old is it? Chances are it will cost more to fix than it's worth. Buy a new one.

There have probably been more .32 autos made than any other caliber in the past 100+ years. Some of them are old, some are increadibly cheap. Something to thing about.

Why am I not surprised?

It is excellent ammo based on my experience. Matter of fact since I put a fancy target barrel on my 10/22 this is the only bulk ammo it will feed reliably. Very accurate in my application as well. As always with .22 ammo your results may vary. $16/box shipped is a great price.
