  1. Well ! I just got burned.
  2. If you do want to try to duplicate the arsenal finish I have a big bag full of shellac flakes and could part with some if you wanted for a modest price. I bought an M44 at a nice price coupla years ago. Metal is 100% but stock had about 30-40% of the shellac flaked of. Being the purist that I am, started doing some (alot) of reseach on trying to put it back how it was. Well, shellacing is fairly easy, getting it to look like it was is not. That M44 is, uh, very red right now. Anyway, bought a 1lb bag of flakes from Woodcraft, enough to finish 138 Mosins, so if you want to go that route let me know. You'll still need to tint it with some leather dye and then probably strip it a few times before it's just right. Or go the easy way like everybody else.
  3. Well, since OP has already removed most of the original finish of the stock....denatured alcholol dissolves shellac fairly quickly. You might want to get some and go over the stock with it before staining. Birch is not easy wood to stain. You may want to Google Mosin refinishing and/or get some alchohol based stain that penetrates the wood better that the average Home Depot Mixwax junk. The leather dyes at Tandy are what many people use.
  4. Very nice rifle. I really, really want a Speedmaster. Been jonesing for one for some time now.
  5. Are you kidding? Maryville is about 15 or 20 minutes south of Knoxville down Alcoa Highway. Just past the airport.
  6. Mineral spirits will dissolve the cosmo as will Hoppe's from the metal. Use the hair dryer on the inside of the stock if there is any soaked in. The stock itself is finished in shellac so just wipe down the outside with a clean, dry rag.
  7. That's quite a rig! Nice job.
  8. I must say the only one I've ever fired is OhShoot's and it is pure joy. That size rifle, action and caliber combination are really perfect.

    Gas Prices

I'm not too sure of that OS. Oil companies are not in the business of promoting, pursuing or even reseaching viable alternatives to OIL. In the big picture oil is cheap, but the ramifications of supply and demand are not. Businesses could care less about the long-term effects of their short-term profit margin. I know for a fact the US oil/gasoline companies have been offered a proven technology to ENHANCE the cracking and refining process, increasing efficiency and reducing waste. They are not buying into it, but other are.

Why not 11/11/11? That way we can avoid the angst and stress of both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  12. Email or call them to fix.
  13. I voted pro-"clip".
  14. Indeed there was. The model SW380. It is so unremarkable and buried so deep in the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" that it's hard to find. Produced 1995-2002. I've never seen one.
  15. S&W never made a .380 before the the current plastic thing. Prior to last year the "Bodyguard" was a metal J-frame .38 with a shrouded hammer. Back in the day S&W produced a .35 caliber semi-auto (1913-1921) and a .32 (1924-1936). Other than those two, only .22, 9mm, .40 and .45 has been produced in semi by S&W, until now.
  16. I have strong desires for a Speedmaster.
  17. Maybe it's all the new Verizon iPhone geeks overloading the system.
  18. +1000000000 Don't leave us hanging man. Somebody might have an opinion on it.
  19. If you have a RWD vehicle in the snow you might as well park and start walking. Same goes for 4WD in many cases, depending on driver. Now, like Erik said, get in a FWD Honda or Acura...you will be able to go just about anywhere on flat roads and then some. I used to tear-ass about in my '91 Integra (stick-shift) in all kinds of snow. No problems at all.
  20. I would prefer to have Campfield not involved in legislative affairs whatsoever. If he propsed anything it is doomed.

    RUGER LC9

When they bring a 1911...with the entire manual stamped on the side.

    RUGER LC9

And Ruger tends to announce a recall shortly thereafter. I really like the idea of the LC9 and want to get my hands on one ASAP but am having problems with that stupid-ass lock illustrated in Jeff Quinn's piece.
