I understand where you're coming from Brian but there really is no "issue" to learn about. Private individuals may legally sell guns to one another whether it be at a gun show or Wal-Mart parking lot. There are no licensed dealers involved so a background check is not required by federal law. There are many in this country with the mistaken assumption that this is some type of "loophole" in the system. One could argue semantics all day on whether that is the case or not but the fact does exist you can buy a gun without going through a dealer and in this state pay a fee to run a background check. Other than inciting hysterics of the often emotional and completely uneducated posters on the Tennessean website I see no purpose in furthering misunderstanding on gun, and property, rights in this country and more importantly this state. You will learn that it is indeed possible to buy guns without going through a dealer. Many dealers hate that because they are not getting $20-$50 to run you through the system. Your articles have mostly been fairly unbiased. I hope that continues.

It's probably best to ask the countries of Europe what they would do. They bowed down and did exactly what the government told them to do. That is what would happen in this country. There would be a few exceptions readily dealt with, but generally, it can and will eventually happen. Thinking otherwise is folly. I just hope my time on this Earth is done before that type of control is in place.

I would have no problem buying a gun from WalMart and have full confidence the product was actually made by the manufactuter stamped on the side of it and advertised by the store, and furthermore that it is, in fact, mechanically the same product that could be purchased elsewhere.

I do hope you can find parts for it if repairs are ever needed. Mine came from Gander Mountain so I'm not too worried.

That is a wild strech of the imagination. The H&R Pardner Pump is an 870 knock-off and better in my opinion that the 870 Express but Remington has nothing to do with it. Some parts are interchangable but no one guarantees that. Some make it work, many don't.
