  1. Boiled Linseed Oil. It is the basis for most surplus stock maintenance. Just Google "boiled linseed oil rifle stock" there is tons of info out there, too much actually. Ther is also some great stock care and finishing tips on the surplus rifle forum and CMP forum. There is also tung oil, pure, not the stuff Formby's makes. The only place you can get that is Woodcraft or other internet sources. Some use what's called 1/3 mix with is a combination of BLO, turpentine and beeswax. I would cut some with turpentine, maybe a 50/50 mix, and apply a coat or two. You can apply with some 0000 steel wool to help even things out a little. From there you can build up to full strength BLO until the wood will not soak any more up.
  2. This. Very much this. Still, I like it.
  3. So you're saying that if you got punched in the face...hard enough to knock you down, then had your head slammed against the ground you would not fight back with whatever means necessary? Like you would have the foresight and restraint to stop defending and accept a beat-down because you might deserve it?
  4. I am by no means an expert or even know the correct wood-talking lingo but I'm pretty sure those little dark "speckles" you see throughout the grain indicate walnut. Birch does not have that, or at least to that degree.
  5. That wood is walnut.
  6. Shoot it then clean it. It's a Mosin, make Ivan proud. Sorry to hear about the fire, hope it was not a total disaster.
  7. Just looking out for Cap so Ruger doesn't put him in the poor house...and OhShoot too. Those fellas sure do like Rugers.
  8. Couldn't you just fill the holes with J-B Weld then redrill and tap to the required dimensions? Or something along those lines. Maybe coat the screws in Turtle Wax (making sure the threads are entirely covered), put some JB on them, insert and let dry. Theoretically the JB will bond with the rings and the screws will screw right out. Sounds good to me anyway.
  9. They should name it the SR-22T . I kinda like it but they've got some nerve announcing yet another new model when they cannot keep up with current demand.
  10. Just put a couple of coats of BLO on the stock.
  11. It takes a specific number of worthy posts, all containing correct spelling and proper grammer. Said posts also subject to committee review.
  12. You should go to Memphis and get a pork chop sammich. The first time I went to Buddy's here in Knoxville was as a freshman at UT. Walked up to the counter and asked for a jumbo hot as that's what I was used to growing up. Girl at the counter was like "huh?" I repeated the requested and received the same dull stare. After the third attempt she pointed up to the menu where there was pork, beef, chicken and turkey listed. After that initial culture shock I properly ordered a large pork sandwich with hot sauce. Sat down at the table, started eating then had to go back up to the counter. There WAS NO SLAW on it! It was an extra charge and you had to ask for it first. She thought I was crazy. Just goes to show how regional the customs surrounding ambrosia is. I can eat my weight in hushpuppies but never think about it with Q.
  13. Not that I've ever heard of but Buddy's, the local fast food BBQ chain does sell hush puppies. They certainly don't in Memphis unless something has changed since I grew up.
  14. I'm calling BS on that pic.
  15. An update..... Oak Ridge chief closes 'road-rage' probe, finds no wrongdoing http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/mar/21/oak-ridge-chief-closes-road-rage-probe-finds-no/
  16. Is that club affiliated with the CMP? Here are the CMP affiliated clubs in TN.... http://clubs.odcmp.c...p=OPEN&state=TN
  17. I don't name guns but will refer to my Mosin as Rodina from time to time.
  18. If you hold a TN HCP you may carry a rifle in your vehicle with a loaded magazine but without a round in the chamber. Of course you can carry a chambered handgun.
  19. This pic is great. "Hey man, it's all good. We ain't doin' nothin'."
  20. I am. That's why it took so long to accept AR's. Now I am fairly, but not totally, assimilated.
  21. It's took me a while to warm up to them.
  22. But they're comics. Or is the preferred term "graphic-novel"?
