  1.   Figured that's what you meant but just wanted to make sure there's not some Russian .22 to be had.
  2. That's pretty cool.
  3.   What Russian stuff?
  4. Now I simply have to know what happened to that slide.  What I see, for lack of a better term, is some flaking.  No way that was caused by corrosion or an overly ambitious bead blast.  Those larger areas simply look like a layer of something was neatly removed.
  5.   It takes three clicks in 10:  Start-Power-Shutdown
  6.   The free upgrade offer is only valid until July 29th 2016 and Windows 8/8.1 just sucks.  There's really no reason not to.   All the major browsers work on 10.  Internet Explorer is still there, you just have to go find it.

    Ruger AR 556

That's pretty much what I did yesterday, except my buddy initiated with interest in an AR.  Went looking around after shooting and found several of the Ruger's, which I kinda had already recommended, primarily because I'm cheap.  He's not really interested in building, just buying one off the rack.   Did a little more research this afternoon and the only negative I can see is the hand guard has no heat shield.  It has a very slim profile so I don't know how hot it would get.
  8. I hate games at neutral sites.  I'd much rather Bowling Green be destroyed at Neyland Stadium.

    Ruger AR 556

Superior.  1/8 barrel (like Sports used to have) with a nice, thin hand guard.  It has a dust cover and forward assist  The front sight block does look a little goofy but I believe it is milled and has serrations to cut down on glare.  There is a QD mount to attach a front sling swivel.   The rear sight is a Magpul knock-off but there is only one aperture (small) and it flips up with a button on the left side rather than the dual "paddles" of the Magpul.    If I was looking for my first it would be the one.

Who's got one?  What are your thoughts?  Laid hands on one today and they are very nice for the price.
  11. Get the kitty a little cardboard box.  He's home now.
  12. What's a zerk?  Is that like a politically correct "it" who's a jerk?
  13. Bazaars can get bizarre depending on the activities, games, and goods offered.
  14. The last Glock I bought brand new had a 1 and a 2 magazine. If I recall correctly Glock mags I bought separately are marked 2.  It means nothing except to Glock that I'm aware of.
  15. I'm not seeing any prices there to justify the expense. You can buy a helluva lot of ammo to make up for bad shots blamed on the basic trigger. Sent using wizardry.
  16. You could just simply ask "What ranges are close to Lebanon" or "What ranges are there over nnn yards".
  17.   There is something to be said for enjoying it while you can.
  18. That's great!  Would have been perfect if he slid in saw/seen.
  19.   That is quite common now.  When they don't give a race it almost always means black.
  20. Sheriff Jimmy "J.J." Jones stepped up with free HCP classes for military members after the Chattanooga shootings.  Don't know if it's an ongoing program but the article indicates there may be some more classes.     http://www.knoxnews.com/news/local-news/free-gun-training-for-military-by-knox-sheriff-fills-classroom_09153532
  21. Pete,  if you truly are interested in WWII history seek out a German K98.  Mausers, of all varieties, were used by more countries in more configurations than any other bolt-action rifle in history. However, only an original German in 8mm will satisfy what i think you want.   Be wary of Russian captures...they often have the Waffenamts (Nazi Eagle mark) peened to obscure the swastika but the history is still there.  Maybe even more history depending on how you look at it.
  22. Mauser prices are going up.  $450 for a russian capture sounds about right but you might be able to find a nicer one for that price if you keep looking.   Rough bore means it's pitted but as long as the rifling is strong it's more of an annoyance than something that effects performance.
  23. There is a lot of very interesting stuff on this site....https://www.warhistoryonline.com/.  All kinds of pictures and stories of stuff being dug up, where are they now, etc.
  24. Tell ya what I'm gonna do.  I have a super rare '42 Mosin that was made right here in Knoxville...says TGI KNOX TN right there on the barrel.  I'll let it go for $1000
  25.   Determination.    I didn't have a vise when I took mine apart, just a couple blocks of wood, a hammer and punch.  It was a giant PITA and required substanial whacks with the hammer.   There is still the question of just how much cosmo might be in the bolt. Does the firing pin move freely right now? You could just soak the whole thing in mineral spirits and hope there is only a little bit there, if any.
