I was born in October of '67 so that's why I'm highly interested in this. My dad was 27 when I was born and had already been denied service for health reasons as he only had one lung. My Uncle, his younger brother, was in the Marines over there when I was born and through Tet. I know it's hard for many to think back on those days but please share or comment on the series if you watch and feel comfortable talking about it.

Ken Burns' documentary on that war premiers on PBS Sunday the 17th. His work has always put together a compelling story and I imagine this will be no different. I am looking forward to it and would love to hear the reactions of those who lived through that era in both a military and cultural sense as I'm sure the series will cover all the bases.

Knoxville and East TN is rapidly filling up with evacuees. If they find out about this show RK might have a big hit on their hands. -

Beef jerky would be an excellent staple for living out the end times but it's so tasty I would gobble it all up the first day or two. -
advice needed Llama IXA .45 (1911 Knock off) - Extractor spring
Garufa replied to Pew_Pew-Pew's topic in Handguns
I think he did. That's Numrich's schematic. Iwonder if that spring is much different from any other external extractor 1911-type guns. -
Safety advantage through orange follower The orange follower allows the shooter to clearly see if there are any rounds left in the magazine or not. Go Vols.

Thanks for all the suggestions and please keep them coming!

So my cousin's oldest son is in ROTC in a Memphis high school. He excels in the marksmanship program using pellet rifles as that is all Memphis schools allow. This young man would like to join the University of Memphis' rifle team after graduating HS but they only accept those who have pellet and .22 experience/qualification. What can he do to get the .22 experience? Are there any programs in the general area to get him up to speed?

Once upon a time I would have been surprised. The government is simply incapable of overseeing itself and any branch or agency with "defense" in its name is the worst. If we had a congress with any kind of balls then $21M would be deducted from next year's appropriation. The same goes for every misuse of taxpayer's funds.

Can somebody give me a ride up to Green Bay?

Looks like a nice one.

I just read that the Colonial pipeline is being shutdown...completely.

So my obsession with the width is unfounded. Just stopped by the store and laid hands on both a 17 and 19. Can't tell much difference between them and Gen 4's (but technically they are still wider according to some gun writers ), but the lack of finger grooves is fantastic, especially on the 19. Triggers felt very nice as well. They were smooth with no grittiness. Once the dust settles I might just go back and look at them again.
-
There is certainly a possibility that width includes the flared magwell. Regardless of that, the thing is thicker.
-
Yep. Directly from their website.

They will, but today's the big day. You know people are out there snatching them up. I want to hold one, but the width per specs is really turning me off. For example: G19 Gen 5: 1.34" G19 Gen 4: 1.18" G21 Gen 4: 1.27 According to Glock's own specs these Gen 5's are wider than their previously thickest pistol.

SIA in Knoxville has "them" in but only picture a G17 on their Facebook page. $579.99

I would say go with .44 for versatility from a platform standpoint. Both are extremely versatile calibers but the Smith is a stronger gun. While .45 Colt can be loaded to exceed .44 Magnum, the Vaquero is not the pistol to do it with. Edit: As you said it was an old large frame Vaq it might be about even from a practical standpoint. Weren't those built on Blackhawk frames? BTW, the .44 Magnum was originally invented due to the lack of versatility in the .45 Colt from a component and overall strength standpoint. Which one do you shoot better? Either one will stop what you need stopped.

Steelharp, is that at your shop? Put some calipers around the "grip zone" where the hand goes and measure the width.
-
The studying I've done on it today indicates the grip is actually larger and the pistol is wider. Two negatives.

What cheesy grip adaptor was on the weapon, if any?
