Has anyone taken the AR-15 / M-16 Armorer Course from Tactical Response? I am thinking about taking it and I am just looking for some first hand feedback on it. Thanks in advance. http://www.tacticalresponse.com/course.php?courseID=29

I like Midway's AR Stoner offering as it has everything I want including 5R rifling except for the rifle length gas system. Just to share. Here is what I have found that might work for me, so far. Please feel free to comment if you have any opinion, info or other suggestions. Sorry it is a long list but thought I would share what my searching has found in case it saves someone else a little time. Sorry Dying Breed. I didn't meant to steal your quote. I hadn't refreshed before posting.

It comes back to the saying, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". That being said, just because you don't doesn't mean it should be illegal or you shouldn't support it for the greater reason. I very, very, very rarely open carry and probably for all the reasons everyone else here would mention but worrying about making the uneducated uncomfortable is not very high on the list for my not doing it. Open Carry does allow me to move about and to transfer my handgun between locations without the fear of being legally penalized, though. It keeps me from legal repercussions when someone's panties get wadded up because my handgun was "printing", my jacket flaps open or my shirt rides up. Far from feeling that Open Carry was the worst mistake Tennessee ever made, I am grateful that I live in a State that still has more value than most for personal freedoms and had people in office at the time that possessed the foresight to opt for Open Carry instead of Concealed Carry so that I would not have to deal with the above mentioned issues. As with all the rights we are granted in this country and the rights that are recognized by our Constitution, with gun ownership and especially the right to carry, comes great responsibility. It is my belief, one of those responsibilities is taking a very deep look at all issues and being able to understand that there is often a "bigger picture" implication to issues than our own personal initial reaction.

Thanks on the White Oak Armament recommendation. I was looking at their offering. Price is good. I believe they are using a 1-7 twist. Most of the other barrels I was looking at are utilizing a 1-8 twist. Do you feel the 1-7 twist will be an issue when just plinking away now and again with everyday off the shelf 55gr ammo, especially when I won't be shooting at any great distance?

I am starting to acquire the parts to build a new AR. May use one of the nice new TGO Uppers and Lower Receivers. It will utilize an 18" barrel with a rifle length gas system. I am thinking of going with a .223 Wylde chamber. I have been looking at a few options that are currently appear to be available. The primary purpose will be to function as a 3Gun type rifle. Does anyone have any advise/experience on barrels that might fit this purpose and what is currently available? Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased a Burris MTAC 1x4 and a LaRue SPR-E LT139 mount for it. Nice combination. Take a little time and check it out. I put it on a 3 Gun type rifle whose purpose is fast acquisition and shooting out to only a few hundred yards.

I absolutely Support it. We should all support this if for no other reasons than supporting our 2nd amendment rights and to help keep from being busted on some technicality while handling a long gun. It would probably also make the transportation in a vehicle less likely to become an issue. I think the arguments Against that are stating that people will be walking around with rifles in public and that makes them feel “uncomfortable†are just silly but they have already been countered here. I also very much disagree that the rifle is an Offensive weapon and the Hand gun is a Defensive weapon. Per Jeff Cooper: The handgun is a convenient-to-carry stopgap weapon, allowing someone the opportunity to get to a rifle. I will defend myself with a rifle, a shotgun and in many cases a machete before choosing a handgun. But it is sure nice to have one on you while utilizing the others or to help you get to them.

Great point 2.ooohhh. Need to be careful what one pushes for. There is a great article in this months issue of wired on General Alexander and his control; over government agencies and their use of cyber attacks and data monitoring. Interesting read. Here is a link to the story for any interested: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/06/general-keith-alexander-cyberwar/

Thanks for the links Hammer Swinger. I did a search before posting and it returned nothing. I agree that this app is easy to thwart but the bigger issue is if providers such as Google, AT&T and Verizon allow apps that can be used to target an individual or business because someone "feels" a certain way to exist on their networks.

If you have not already heard about it and checked it out, you may want to take a little time and look into the Gun Geo Marker application that is currrently being offered on Google's Play Store for Android based devices. It allows people to mark the businesses and residences of "dangerous" gun owners. From the beginning of the App's description. "Geolocate Dangerous Guns and Owners with the Gun Geo Marker. Geolocation means marking dangerous sites on the App's map so that you and others can be aware of the risks in your neighborhood." see the Play Store or the developers site for a more detailed description (see links below). I contacted my cell provider. Verizon, to express my concerns over the legality and their potential liability for allowing such an app and its information to flow through their service. They were very attentive and I had a long discussion of the apps issues and my concerns with them. They agreed it was something that should be looked into and started a ticket to escalate the issue. I encourage everyone to reach out on this one. Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.ucsd.visarts.walkingtools.gungeomarker Developer Link: http://gungeomarker.org/

Definitely in for a couple.

Scariest part is that he has tightened up his argument and rounded it off so well that it will probably sound completely reasonable to the uneducated. They keep repeating how they aren't wanting to take away anyone's rights and they are sportsmen themselves and just want these minor, reasonable common sense changes. I have had to re-educate too many people I know who I would have been sure knew better before they opened their mouth. This programming is getting to people.

Thanks for the link, R4MBO. I'll finish it up tonight (hopefully). I've ben in a lot of discussions lately and this will be a good resource ro expand with. Though the data will probably be just for me as no one seems to want to hear anything that has to do with facts.

Nice little video and thanks for the can opener link, vontar.

I own a few higher dollar knives including a couple of auto openers. I was considering the purchase of a new EDC and received some great advice from a guy who is extremely serious about his knifes, "You don't want to be carrying any knife that it is going to hurt your feelings when an overzealous cop/security person takes it from you or if you have to quickly wipe it down and toss it in the gutter." Also, as one of my law professors pointed out, nothing in this country is actually illegal until someone complains.

24/7. My daughter has lived with me solely for the last 6 of her 17 years and most of the time prior to that. It is a hell of a thing to try and fill both parents shoes.

Very well put. She probably had to call AT&T to she how she was to vote. She's been in their pocket for a while now.

I received a response from Keith Speer to the question about parks & greenways. He said that he would support permitted carriers to carry anywhere permitted by state law but he would not be the one introducing it as there are more pressing issues that need to be addressed in our county.

It is very interesting that you can't find contact info for candidates. For fun, I went and tried to find it for those listed above as well. I did find this on Bruce Casper: Campaign For Liberty — Davidson GOP Chair Supports Gay Libertarian Candidate for Mayor Keith Speer's Facebook page with email: Keith Speer | Facebook .. and this little piece in the Tennessean mentioning Don O’Donniley: Politicians late on paying property taxes put on notice | The Tennessean | tennessean.com Which states: Don O’Donniley, an attorney who also is seeking an at-large seat, said he was waiting for the settlement of a recent lawsuit so he would be able to pay the combined bill of more than $2,200 on two properties, including his Belmont Boulevard home. O’Donniley said he’s been late with his payments in other years but has always paid the penalties and gotten caught up, usually by April. He said he recently fought a three-year battle with cancer, with medical expenses totaling $100,000, and regularly uses settlements from litigation to generate cash flow to pay his bills. “The more relevant question is, has someone failed to pay them over time?” he said. “If you’re behind and you don’t catch up, that’s a problem. ... I can’t imagine why you’d be complaining about somebody paying interest.” He said he would pay his taxes before Election Day, which is Aug. 4.

Thanks a lot for the spreadsheet. I really love the votes on January 19th 'Public to Vote on New Convention Center'. We, defeninitely don't want that pesky little Public guy getting in the way again. Did you put this together or pull it off of the Nashville.gov site?

It is the "eye of the beholder" part that is worrisome. Already a story out of Dickson, TN on a issue. This time it was a LOE that found the sticker offensive and she removed it. Woman Pulled Over For Offensive Bumper Sticker - NewsChannel5.com | Nashville News, Weather & Sports From the stories that ran on stations when this came out, it seems anyone can call and issue a complaint and an officer will check it out. The officer in this WTVF story instructs the lady to do the same. I think I am going to get a sticker made that says "Offensive".

Haslam willing to take lead on Internet sales tax
DHF replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Unfortunately this is not a new tax. There has been an "obligation" to pay tax on purchases from out of state (online, catalog, etc) for sometime. I just don't know of anyone who have volunteered to do so. States have been whining about making sellers bear the burden of collecting taxes for states that they do not even reside in (but are selling to) for quite a while now. They would want it automated even if people were sending it in, though. Just as with the Income Tax, the more automatically it happens, the less people are aware of how much they are being taxed. If you are Amazon, maybe you can absorb the costs (or pass them on) easier but if you have a small family business selling custom gun parts nationally, for example, it can be quite prohibitive/costly to have to keep up with 50 states + our territories' tax structures as well as collect and file everything. It's the overhead of keeping up with all of this that will hurt businesses (especially small businesses). See below for TN state website info on personal responsibility to pay for online purchases: Sales and Use Tax Frequently Asked Questions Consumer Use Tax -
Thanks for this review. It is great to see someone detail an experience, especially one that I am strongly considering.
