  1. I'm not exactly sure which bullet I want to use yet. It'll probably be something mostly in a 200+ subsonic bullet. I've already started processing the brass now. I bought a cheap metal chop saw at harbor freight and have hacked the necks off of about 300-400 cases. I bought a 300 aac case trimmer and gauge so now I'm trimming to exact length. Now all Ive got to do is resize. I just wanted something to compare measurements to. I'm getting some mixed instructions on how far down to adjust the die. I've read that it needs to just barely touch the die with the ram up, while the dies say to screw the die in until it touches and back it out one full turn. I suspect it's somewhere in between.
  2. Does anyone have a single factory loaded 300 AAC round I can buy off them? I don't have the upper yet but I'm trying to get my reloading gear setup to make brass from .223 and would like to have a round to reference. Thanks.
  3. I bought a box just to try out. Fte on 2 different guns. The case was so stuck in the chamber I had to take a cleaning rod and hammer it out. Since I'm not exactly notorious for cleaning my ARs I attributed it to a dirty chamber. 2 of my friends both with ruger ARs claimed it would never happen to their guns. It did the same thing in both of their guns. Another guy bought some a few weeks later and one of the rounds hardly had any powder.
  4. Just from doing a google search i doubt any of these calibers are something I'd be interested in. The only reason I'm getting into reloading is because of 300 AAC and that's as "oddball" as I want to get.
  5. I'm just starting to get into reloading. A friend of mine gave me a box of assorted dies that someone had given him (he doesn't reload). They had some oddball and wildcat dies in them. Among them were 222 rem, 30 herrett, and 357 herrett. My question is that is there any value in them? Not neccessarily any money value but more value to keep them around just in case.
  6. Send it to adco. He specializes in at related things such as that. Just google adco firearms.
  7. I I've been interested in a similar setup but I'd like to actual heat what it sounds like. When you get everything back and completed I like to hear your setup if we could arrange that one day.
  8. I was fortunate enough to get one straight from Ruger for a dealer incentive thing program. I will say it shoots fantastic. That being said it's the only 1911 I've owned personally. I've shot others but I wouldn't say I've shot them enough to really have a great feel for the 1911 platform as a whole. I will say I wish they hadn't bead blasted the gun because mines already shown holster wear from where I carry it about once a week. I kinda wished it didn't have the loaded chamber peep hole in it. I'm glad they kept all the danger and warnings the ruger has been know to put on guns to a minimum. There's a small place on the dust cover.
  9. I Wonder where the AR pistol falls into this situation. Conceivably an out of state resident should be able to buy a lower but since a dealer has no way of knowing whether it will be built into a pistol or a rifle they could refuse to sell. Or maybe there's a law that dictates that a frame or receiver can't be sold to am put of state resident. The same goes for buying 2 ar receivers. The dealer has no way of knowing whether it's going to be a rifle or pistol so potentially they should do a multiple purchase form.aybe a dealer can clarify.
  10. JRC is making a blow back rifle that looks like an Ar and takes Glock mags. It doesn't use an AR upper but uses Ar buttstock and trigger group. What's neat is that eventually they're going to offer it in .45. The magwell is modular so if you have a 9mm you could buy kit to convert it to .45. I've been keepin my eye on a thread at ar15.com. A guy over there is trying to perfect a 9mm that's DI. At least one that cost would be reasonably priced to manufacture. Supposedly it has alot less recoil and is easier on brass if you reload.
  11. I had a sub 2000 and it functioned perfectly and was great as shtf gun. However the sights werent great, you were limited on optic mounting options and often times defeated what I felt was the purpose of the gun, a lightweight concealable emergency long gun. I vote 10/22. You can get one for under $200. If you don't like the grip you can buy new stocks or anything else for that matter. Inexpensive. You can get an AR style stock. I have never fired an mp15-22 but I speculate it won't be quite as accurate as a 10/22.
  12. I bought one (19") a few weeks ago for just over $600 before tax. It functioned flawlessly out of the box. I converted it and had the barrel cut down and a door breacher permanently attached. It now won't cycle, I suspect that the hammer needs to be reprofiled as theres quite a bit of drag on the bolt/carrier hand cycling. I just haven't had time to polish etc. If that doesn't work I'm going to open the gas ports.
  13. I just finished converting a saiga 12. I put a flash hider/door breacher on it and it's just too long. The breacher is 3" long and the barrel is 19" long. Is there anyone in the Nashville area that can cut it down, rethread, and permanently mount the breacher to 18.5"? I talked to jeff at G&L and he told me me he couldn't rethread it, something to do with not being able to remove the barrel from the receiver. thanks.
  14. +1 on the Carolina shooter supply. The video section of there website is very helpful.
  15. The recoil wasn't horrible, it was just more substantial compared to an AR. It was actually alot of fun and was easily bump fired. The stock itself just seemed a little flimsy. It would probably take alot of abuse but it seems like it might deform if abused. The weakest part to me was the built in bi pod. I swapped mine out for a compact fore end with a picatinny rail on the bottom, it never exactly fit on there right. The way the end was held on wasn't very sturdy the end pieces had a big C shaped thing that held it on. KT sent me a couple of different hardware kits to swap out but it never fit as tight as i wanted. Eventually I jsut got some black zip ties and strapped it together and that worked pretty well. While using a foregrip the compact foreend wanted to separate under any kind of torque.
  16. I had a "Charlie" model. I had a few malfunctions but I blame it on the mags I was using. I sold mine to build an AR or 2. It really had more recoil than expected from a 5.56/.223. The C model stock allowed to be fired when folded, but it seemed really flimsy. To me to field strip it was kinda funky when comparing to an AR. If you need an emergency get you home rifle to keep in your trunk it would be fine. That being said if you're going to keep it in your trunk that negates the lightweight advantage especially when you can build a very basic AR for around the same money.
  17. J&T should take of it. I have a friend who bought a DoubleStar from JT and the first shot the bolt locked up. After removing the bolt from the rifle it turns out the gas rings cracked. He took it up to them and they pulled the bolt out, threw it in a 5 gallon bucket, and gave him a new one.
  18. If you're interested. I'm getting ready to build an A2 style AR. I'm buying a flattop Double Star upper from my buddy. I would trade you upper receivers. We have all the toold to swap everything.
  19. Now if I were going to loot, I'd loot the evacuated areas that were dry. Who wants a bunch of soggy stuff?
  20. You probably dealt with Adam West (we call him Batman) he's a good dude. They're based out of Cookeville
  21. The Del Ton I have is matte as is my buddies, as are all the complete DelTon Rifles I've seen.
  22. The only thing I don't like about double star is that if you don't buy DS upper the finish probably won't match. They're usually semiglossy and most other AR finishes are matte.
  23. Speaking of the midlength MOE HG, has anyone actually seen a pic of it? I looked a while back and couldn't find one.
  24. My friends turned me on to craft paint from walmart. It's like a paint marker. You color in the etchings and then wipe off the excess. The key is to let it try enough to dry and harden in the etchings. If you wait too long it seeps deep into the pours of the finish and makes it difficult to remove. If you don;t wait long enough it wipes out of the etchings. Use acetone to remove and once you've got the bulk of it off rub it off with oil.
  25. Can anyone recommend me to an AK47 forum comparable to ar15.com as quality etc. I'm looking to do some horse trading on some AK gear.
