  1. I love the rtf guns in fact I've been waiting to stumble on one in a 17. I love the look and feel of them. A lot of people are too girly to appreciate the aggressiveness of the texture.
  2. For places like budsgunshop they were a bit misleading. Sure they have some great deals. The other side they used to advertise things on theyre website at a certain price and they may not have carried that gun at that price in a year. The price is still there so people come in and are like you can buy it from buds for x but they're out of stock and the price is likely to go up. I don't know if they still do that or not.
  3. This was mostly tongue and cheek guys but it seems one or two of you are butt hurt over it. If we're slow I don't mind BSing with customers but their are a few "regulars" that never buy anything that want to look at 15 guns and expect to be treated like their royalty because they come in 3 times a week even though they never buy anything, especially when the shop is packed. How many of you are going to be pissed because you can't get help because either someone is ranting about Obama, or is wasting time looking at a desert eagle. Like I said its different when it's slow. I have a regular that's an older gentleman has never bought one thing and i know hes not going to,he comes in once a week and I BS with him. But we have a bit of an understanding, that if we get busy then I need to assist the customers that might potentially buy something. As far as what guy I am. I'm not elitist. I don't carry nighthawk or les Baer or an lwrc. I carry a glock and a colt. I'm a big research guy Ive pretty much made up my mind before I've set foot in a shop. I happen to work for someone that prices items like pmags affordably also, if you're paying 14.20 for pmags online you're paying too much. But there are mags that are high ie if we pay $35 for mag and sell for about $41 I don't feel like thats an unreasonable profit. Yes $40 is a lot for a mag but we're not going to sell it for a loss. That's really besides the point I'm not the owner/operator so that above my head. As far as gun pricing just because Jim bob cooters cousin or (insert gun shop) can get it for you at half what we're selling it for I just tell them that's a good deal and you should take them up on it. Maybe they really can, maybe they're just BSing to try and get a better deal I have no way of knowing. That being said I have a hard time believing that when they tell me they can buy a new colt 6920 for $800 when dealer cost on them is typically more than that. I don't set the prices im not the owner/operator so it's really out of my hands. As far as Internet sales I'm not against them. Sometimes there's things you just can't buy locally. My issue is the people that want to come in and fondle them and then go home and order it or whatever. That's a bit disingenuous to me. That's like test driving a Corvette then driving over to Kentucky to buy it because their sales tax is lower. That's probably not the best example but you get the point. As a customer, myself I don't like being hovered over while I'm looking at things. Maybe some of you guys like it. If you ask me if I need help I'll say not thanks or yes I'm looking for..... If I say no I don't want you following me around like I'm going to steal something. If I need help or have a question I'll ask. But that's just me.
  4. Over the past few years I've had the opportunity to work in gun shops and I've observed a lot of "gun shop guys". Some these guys are really irritating and some are almost insulting so I guess this post is a bit venting as well as its also a bit tongue and cheek. These guys are usually "regulars" and I'm sure some of you guys might be offended because you are these guys. Tactical mall ninja guy. This guy always has the best technique for shooting as well as knows all the best gear to use for home or self defense. He walks around looking for conversations to butt into and explain why his technique is the best and why you need to train that way or why you need to change the way you train. Bargain guy. This guy will drive around all day to save $20. Look I understand that in today's economy everyone is trying to save a buck but it doesn't make sense for someone to drive to greenbrier, then Murfreesboro, then to franklin then back greenbrier just to save $20. I guess I understand that some guys get a high off of saving a few bucks. For me unless you're saving +$100 it's. It worth my time and effort to drive 100 miles. Along with this guy is I can get it cheaper guy. Yeah we have it for $440 but they're brothers, best friends brother in law can get it for $389 but they don't now when they can get it of if they can ever get it. Maybe they're telling truth maybe they're just BSing to try and get a better deal. Gun collector guy. This guy is usually an older gentleman, and they want to tell you every gun they've ever owned, how it shot, why they got rid of it (if they did) and why they wished they never got rid of it. These 2 guys kinda fall under the same category. Bubba/gangbanger guy. These guys make a b-line to the desert eagle or s&w 500 case. I get it, they're a bit of a novelty but working there it's honestly a bit annoying to pull a gun out a hundred times a day when they have no intention of buying it. I used to see it at gun shows all the time. We used to carry a s&w bear survival kit to gun shows with yellow grips and everyone fingered it. Being a hard sell as it is we had to discount it heavily because the grips had turned black from everyone handling it. Speaking of handling there's Internet handler guy. He wants to come in and handle all the firearms he's planning on ordering online before he does it. This guy is can also be someone that might be buying one from a co worker and just wants to see what they look like. Maybe this is a smart play but as an employee it's really annoying especially when they tell you there intentions up front and you know they don't plan on buying it. It's like your using the shop to test and feel everything and the shop gets nothing from it, but yet to me that the risk of buying on the Internet and the benefit of going to a brick and mortar shop. As a side note I'm generally against more taxes, however I really hope a bill gets passed where if you order something online you have to pay sales tax. That's tons of revenue that the state is missing out on and they have to make up by raising taxes in other areas. Also it's killing brick and mortar shops that have more overhead which are generally mom and pop type shops. Hunter guy. This guy has a hunting story for everything. About how he crept over the ridge at dawn, and caught an 18 point buck over the corner of his eye and killed it at 1300 yards with a .22. Then you get tin foil hate guy. Politics is a commonly talked about subject in gun shops. For me it gets old but I guess for customers it's a place to vent with out being persecuted for their political affiliations. Tin foil hat guy is this time 10. He has all these conspiracy theories on why the government is buying tons of ammo, or that the government is causing all these shootings to cause more gun control. I've had guys try and get me to join militias, talk about president assassination, and their grass roots efforts to secede from the union. Maybe somewhere there's some truth to this but generally don't believe it. I'm sure some of you guys might be offended by this, you might be one of these guys. This is really tongue and cheek but there's a lot of truth to this.
  5. Now that I think about it, where I'm currently working we had a guy that had an FFL buy a gun and we had to ship it to him back home. Honestly I don't remember if that was because of legal reasons or because he didn't want to drive to miami with it or what.
  6. According to the guy I worked for the ATF frowns upon this. He claims that he was doing this down in Texas several years back and they suspended his ffl for doing this claiming it needed to be returned and shipped then transferred. Supposedly spent big bucks in court and eventually they agreed to drop it and reinstate his ffl if he agreed not to countersue. Allegedly he spent all the money he could on legal fees as the atfs pockets are much deeper. His defense was that he is a FEDERAL firearms dealer and should be able to sell to whomever. He said they asked well if you believe that then why did you transfer it? His response was bc he didnt know the local laws and wanted to abide by them. Anyways that just what he told me and several other people. I'm sure some of it was left out to paint himself in a good light.

    XDS

    Outpost had one today.
  8. I ordered a noveske in an 8" barrel. I'm going to put my Adams arms piston kit on it to see if I can get it to run in the different modes. Adams arms says they haven't tested the 300 Bo and can't gurantee it will work.
  9. In the people I've talked to that own them a pistol length gas system is the more desirable. Ive been told it will shoot supersonic in unsuppressed and subsonic suppressed. The rest may or may not cycle. Varies from gun to gun
  10. Outpost charges $35. Probably not the cheapest but it's pretty close.
  11. The specific promag problem I had was the spring. The mag spring wasn't strong enough to push up the round fast enough. The gun would cycle but it wouldn't pick up the next round.
  12. Don't buy promags. They don't work. I've had best luck with surefire.
  13. It looks significantly bulkier than the ksg. My friend bought a ksg from my work and having handled and fired one personally I must say I have to have a bullpup 12 ga.
  14. Thanks. Im not really interested in shooting them but maybe I can find an old .22 rifle to display with them.
  15. My grandfather gave me some old .22lr and it's has a 1 cent tn tax stamp. I'm not going to shoot it because the box it's kindve old and neat looking but I was wondering if anyone recalls how long it's been since the tax stamp has been 1 cent.
  16. I've seen worse. A guy brought in a KT P32 claiming it was misfeeding to the LGS I was working at. I asked if he had ever cleaned it after looking at it. He replies no. There was so much hair, lint, something that looked like skin it was ridiculously disgusting. So I believe it.
  17. I used a modified tapco and I took quite a bit of material from the hammer as well as polished the bolt pretty well. I tried using the original hammer and I couldn't remember exactly why but it didn't work quite right (even by my saigas standards) So I swapped it back.
  18. I have this one http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-268/DPH-PHANTOM-SAIGA-12/Detail I like the somewhat aggressive but not as aggressive as something like the shark brake. I moved the trigger forward then had trouble shooting high powered stuff. Once I got that worked out I had the barrel cut down and the FH permanently mounted I had trouble cycling even the high brass stuff once again. Everything I researched told me that the shortening of the barrel caused it and the gas ports needed to be opened. The gas block was a pain to get off. I had to beat it off with a big hammer, a press would have worked better. Even now it's 50/50 with low powered stuff but buck shot, 3 1/4 dram field loads (the rio stuff doesn't really cost anymore than the 2 2/3 dram) and slugs run fine. I'm sure if I played around more I could get it to cycle everything but I plan on SBS and possibly shortening the gas system so I don't really want to spend the time on it.
  19. I had to open up my gas ports when I shortened my barrel. It would hardly cycle anything.
  20. I ordered a knock off phantom to permanently attach. The armory in Lebanon had some super aggressive door breaching looking ones. I didnt want an aggressive one because they tear up stuff when you lean them against walls and furniture.
  21. Mine fired walmarts cheapest loads until I moved the trigger forward. Now it will only fire 3 1/4 dram field loads and of course buckshot. I couldn't quite figure it out. All I could figure is that the modified tapco hammer was causing too much friction for the bolt have enough ummph to cycle low powered stuff. I took it apart and grinded it (hammer, bolt, etc) down and polished and it still only 50/50. I got frustrated since I dont have a place to test fire and have to drive 30mins. I figured I would just buy a bunch of 3 1/2 dram stuff since the rio 7 1/2 isn't really any more expensive. I wish before the store I worked at burned down I had ordered a case of it since I was buying it at cost. What do you guys think of the chaos rail with hk sights?
  22. Those of you that are already loading for 300 blackout, are you using the same bullets you use for .308 win?
  23. Thanks for the offers guys but I bought a box of factory loaded ammunition.
  24. Yeah I almost broke down and bought a motorized trimmer. Even though the way I've been trimming is a slow tedious process, it keeps me occupied since I dont have an upper yet.
