  1. I am a Dillion reloader user. I have two 550B's and they are great and warranty excellant. A part breaks send them e-mail or call and you get a new part in mail very fast.
  2. I had a CZ 527 bolt action in 223 and it was very accurate with scope 200yds +, for much longer ranges you need a bigger caliber like .308/30-06 IMO.
  3. I've owned several P220's in SS and Black. Great guns and very accurate. I have the P220 DA/SA std model with short trigger, std plastic grips, ss guide rod and a 18# mainspring.  Very smooth trigger and cuts a 2" hole out of the center of a 15 yd target. I've had the P226, but prefer the slimmer P220 and 45 acp.
  4. $600-$1000 depending on shape and matching of components to original.
  5. I think the barrel was turned slightly pass center. I assumed they might have removed to much metal as talked in video. I took the coward's way out and reduced the width of front sight assembly about .08" on left of front sight, thus allowing me to move sight to left and not overhang the base. Centered shots and rear sight is 1 click to left at 100yds. Thanks TGO for good advice.
  6. Lee Carbide are probably the least expensive and get the job done.
  7. MY rifle reloads in 45-70 I pulled bullets and sold brass and bullets and dumped powder back in container. Probably harder to do for shotgun loads with crimp and wads.
  8. Thanks. The gun was rebarreled with a LWR barrel stamped 9 1953, receiver is a June 1941. I thought barrel may be off a slight turn to left, but I don't know how to correct. Grouping is good on target, just rear sight is about 3.5 1/4" marks to right to center on target. I'll  check videos for barrel timing.

    First M1

I picked one up at Franklin GS. Shot at 100 yds and grouped within 2.5" after sighting-in. Ammo is a little hard to find, for I'm waiting 200 rds from CMP. I ordered 200 rds from www.ammogarand.com, which I received in 3-5 days. Good luck with your piece of history and excellant shooter.
  10. I bought a used Garand and shot it Saturday at 100 yds. With rear & front sight centered I shot about 12" to left. I adjusted rear sight all clicks to right and centered rounds on target. Grouping was about 2". I then adjusted front sight all the way to left and rear sight 2.5 unit marks to right, instead of previous 4 units, which centered groups on target. How can I correct impact on target and center rear sight for windage? I have thought about a narrower width on front sight, current is .5" to slide on a base of .59". Is there a commerical Garand front sight 0.4' available. I could try and file about 0.10" off left side of front sight so I could move another .1" to left and not have an overhang to left side of front sight base.  If anyone has experienced this problem and have a fix, please advise.
  11. I visited Steve Silvers after seeing is inventory and price list. I took home a Sig P220 for $779 + tax. Steve is a nice guy and has uninflated prices. His website: http://www.silversfirearms.com   His place of business is out of his shop next to house. He is about 18 miles northeast of Chattanooga.
  12. To get out of going to GS,I drove to Oldfort, TN to Silvers Firearms LLC and bought a new Sig P220R with contrast sights and 2 rd mags for $779 + tax & BGC. I looked at same gun at Outpost Armory and it was marked $1000+. Some people are keeping their prices uninflated. Steve Silvers is a good guy and has many handguns. Check out is web site and inventory. He is about 18 miles north east Chattanooga.   http://www.silversfirearms.com
  13. I may go looking for a used Sig P220, but I really don't want to buck the crowd and stand inline to get in.
  14. For 9mm, I would recommend th M&P 9 or 9c. 45 acp the M&P 45c, Sig P220 (full size) or Kahr CW45. The only one I don't have is the P220, but I've owned several and they are accurate and a pleasure to shoot. I'm trying to find a used one now. LOL with your choice.
  15. I have TM 9-1005-222-12 M-1 Garand Dewpt. of Army Tech Manual, "The M1 Garand 1936-1957" by Poyer & Riesch, and CMP's "U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1. I 've read these publications and have 4 clips read to zero sights. Maybe ammo supply will improve. I may have to start loading 30-06. Currently, I just reload handgun ammo. I would like to try some matches if accuracy proves out on this one.
  16. I bought my Garand froman loder individual cheaper than what CMP has advertised and not a 60 day delivery time. I ordered Greek M2 ammo from CMP and they don't know when it will be shipped. They said when shipped they would e-mail me. I was surprised that they would be swamped with orders and backlogged on shipping when they deal in WWII items/ammo. They do have a good informative website.
  17. I went looking for AR10 or M1A at Franklin Gunshow last week and came home with a M1 Garand. Price was 1/3rd to 1/4th the price of the 308's I looked at. I have disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the gun. The receiver is a Springfield Armory and the serial puts it in June 1941, the bolt is a 1944, barrel a LMR 1953 and operating rod 1944+. The receiver has etched REP 11. The stock is most likely birch or lower grade walnut. It appears that I have a rebuild somewhere in 1950-60. Everything is in go shape and barrel rifling looks excellant along with barrel crown. I assume I have a Service grade rebuild. I ordered/received M2 ball ammo and some en-bloc clips. When rain clears up next week, I'll see how she shoots, hope she is accurate. I have a 100yd range, but would like to set sights for 200yds. Please give me some input on shooting and maintaining this gun. Alos your own experience with a M1 Garand.
  18. Not me. I don't believe I can take many more crowds. I want to see what's on the tables and what people are carrying around, and when crowded, its impossible. Ya have fun and stay dry who are there!!!!!!!
  19. I ordered some ball M2 ammo for my Garand from them this week. They said they did not know when it would be shipped due to backlog. They will e-mail me when shipped. I had thought about ordering their Special Garand with 308 barrel, but due to backlog I decided not to. LOL
  20. I did a little online research on Garand adjustable gas plugs and found a source at Brownell's for $39. I also watched a video on You Tube and saw how to install and adjust for correct cycling of operating rod/bolt. You just remove gas plug lock and screw in adjustable plug, then shoot and adjust until you get proper cycling. Looks easy, I may try after getting some more 30-06 ammo.
  21. CMP recognized SASS ID so ordered 200rds of Greek 150g M2 ball for $98 + $12 shipping, about $0.55/rd. Thanks TGO. I may try reloading brass from this lot. I've never reloaded rifle rds except straight wall 45-70. I also checked and Brownell's has adjustable gas plug for $39, may try one later.
  22. How hard is an adjustable gas plug to install? What kind of price are they? Does anyone have one and is it easy to adjust? Is there any problems using current factory ammo with this adjable plug? It's gettting hard to find surplus M2 ball and I was wondering if this would allow use of regular 30-06 150g ammo. Input please.
  23. What ammo is safe to use in the Garand? I have a 1941 receiver, 1944 bolt and 1953 LMR barrel. I have found some surplus 30-06 150g M2 ball made in Canada. Is current 30-06 to hot for this gun? I know American Eagle produces some 150g 30-06 for the Garand, but can't find any. I've tried to order from CMP, but I have no club affiliated membership, so can't order from them.
  24. I waited 45 minutes in line. did get in for $8 with $2 coupon (thanks). Very crowded upto about 1:00, then thinned out but still line outside. I saw one AR -10 Dmps go for $1500 within 15 minutes. Saw a M1a NM with 15 mags, etc for $5000. Did see one more reasonable around $1650. Ran into older gent with good looking Garand 1943-44, I bought it. I don't have to worry about mags. Couldn't find any 30-06 ball ammo. I did okay but will not go again until prices stablize, if they do.
  25. I have a CW45 and I am well pleased with it. Prices are less than $400-$425. It is accurate, reloable and a good carry45acp. Slim grip so can fit most hands 6+1 capacity with regular mags. Only comes with one mag. I bought a used mag for $20 and ordered a 3rd new 7 round mag for $32. I also have a PM9 which is my primary CC. Lots of luck with your choice!
