I want to reload some 158g JHP or JSP ammo for deer/coyote size game to shoot in a Ruger Blackhawk or Gp100 in 6-6.5" barrel. I would like to be in 1200-1300 fps range. I want good group size at 50yds. Any suggestions on powder, bullets, etc.?

The last shows I attended were not worth the 60+ minute drive. I'll pass this one and any future ones in Lebanon..

I've had several pistols in 357 Sig. I really like the round for it has very flat trajectory and deep pentration. I have a Glock 23 with a 357 Sig barrel (use same 40 SW mags) and also 9mm conversion barrel. I reload the 357Sig on a Dillon 550B using Dillon dies, Accurate #9, and 125g JHP. Very accurate load. The recoil of 357 Sig is a little more than a 45 acp. I have alot of Federal 357 Sig that I bought prior to past several years/current price gouge.

I sold a M&P 9mm Shield and bought a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 357 Mag. Pretty good show but not alot of revolvers. -
Franklin Gun Show this weekend @ AG Center

I might give it a try Saturday morning. Looking for a used SS Ruger GP100 w/6" barrel. Will carry a couple of guns to sale/trade: M&P Shield 9mm w/ns, and a Marlin 336 30-30 presafety. Say hello if you see me walking around. -
Excellant price, Bud's Discount Guns last price when in stock was $449. I wish mind was $395 when bought. The M&P Shield is the best carry pistol SW has produced, especially at current prices.

44 Mag - Reloading with Accurate #9 (7.5" Barrel vs 20" Barrel)
lshel replied to lshel's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I reloaded some more 23.1g of Accurate #9 using Federal 155 magnum large pistol primers in Starline new brass with 180g Hornadty XTP bullets with OAL at 1.60". Chronograph results: Redhawk (7.5" barrel) Marlin (20" barrel) Fed 155 primers AVERAGE 1596 FPS 1967 FPS RANGE 45 26 REM UMC 180 JSP 2126 Velocity up some in 7.5" barrel but still close to 22.6g of Accurate #9. I shoot 22.6g load and 23.1g load using Accurate #9 at 100 yds with Marlin 1894 and both loads would stay on paper plate w/o sight adjustment, both grouped good at 25 yds using Ruger Redhawk. I checked the REM UMC 180 JSP and they OAL is 1.59" so close to my 1.60". I guess I'll just settle for the 22.6g load of Accurate #9 at 1582 fps in Redhawk and 1966 fps in Marlin. -
44 Mag - Reloading with Accurate #9 (7.5" Barrel vs 20" Barrel)
lshel replied to lshel's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Accurate #9 and 2400 are very close as to burn rate. H110 is a slower burn powder than A#9 and 2400. Why is the velocity range lower for a 20" barrel using Accurate #9? A lower range means more consistant velocity. I can see reaching a peak velocity in the shorter 7.5" barrel at 22.6g of Accurate #9, but why such a large range in velocity for this charge in a 7.5" barrel? -
I am trying to use Accurate #9 and 180g Hornady XTP in RP cases (fired 1-2 times) and WWL primer, 1.60 OAL. Used Remington UMC 180g SP (1610 fps) as comparison. Shot 3 rounds thru Competition Pro Pal at 10-15 feet. Shot rounds thru a Ruger Redhawk (7.5" barrel) and a Marlin 1894 (20" barrel). Velocity in fps. Redhawk Marlin Rem. UMC 180g SP avg 1656 2142 range 26 52 21.6g A#9 avg 1424 range 67 22.6g A#9 avg 1582 1966 range 80 32 23.1g A#9 avg 1516 1964 range 103 35 23.1g Heavier Crimp avg 1537 1956 range 146 23 23.1 HG/Starline brass avg 1578 2000 range 61 9 Rem. UMC 180g SP Recheck at end of session 2123 Since velocity did not increase after 22.6g of Accurate #9, does this mean I'm not getting a complete powder burn in 7.5" barrel, plus range of velocity is high in this barrel length and much better in 20" barrel. I used Winchester WWL primer which says standard/magnum. Accurate data sheet shows powder charge max at 24.0 g with velocity at 1675 fps. Do I need to use another primer that is magnum specific? Has anyone else experience this problem and what was the fix? thanks

Western Powders shows reload data for 44 mag using Accurate #9 powder for 180g bullet thru a 320g bullet. I'll give the 180 g HP a try with this powder.
-
I decided to try Accurate #9 per David's suggestion. I also have some H110 as backup. thanks

I bought a Williams peep sight with fiber optic front thru Amazon, that was delivered today. Installed this evening with no problems. I'll take her out to sight in tomorrow or Monday.

Show was okay. I bought some powder from Sam. I found some used 44 mag brass, but no bullets in 44 mag were at whole show. Bought a nice Marlin 336 30/30 presafety, looks like new. Now to find some 150g ammo at Walmart, I hope.

I too like the Crossbreed Supertuck. I have one for my M&P 9c and one for sale for Glock26/27/33.

Thanks McGarrett, I checked with Midway and they are out of stock with the ones that includes front fiber optic sight. They are to notify me when back in stock.

I am looking for a good powder to use in loading 44 Mag for 180g - 200 g HP/SP bullets. The reloading manuals show Accurate #7, Accurate #9, H110 and Winchester 296. The accurate powders take less powder charge and the H110/296 the largest powder charge. I can get more bullets for the money using Accurate powder. I have used H110 before and from memory it burns dirty. I plan on using one load for both my Ruger Redhawk 7.5 barrel and my Marlin 1894 20" barrel. I would like some input from those reloaders that use these four powders in 44 mag. Which burns the cleanest, which gives best accuracy 50/100 yds, etc. Thanks.

Wil Sam have any 44 mag 180 or 200g jacket HP/SP for reloading and some 44 mag brass?
-
I have a Marlin 1894 that I would like to install adjustable sights. I have seen several complaints from people who have bought differt sight sets where the front sight is too high and they can't get enough adjustment down on rear sight to get rifle to print on target at 50 or 100 yds. I was hoping to find a fiber optic sight set. Has anyone installed adjustable sights on there Marlin 1894 or Marlin 336 with the ramped front sight and have sighted gun in after installation. If so what kind, manufacture and approximate price range. Thanks

Gunshow scheduled for this weekend. I'm going to look for some 44 mag reloading supplies. Hope there is some there.

I went, don't waste your time. Carried two guns to trade and I came back home with same two guns.

With a X-grip Adapter for M&P Full size you can have a spacer between grip and end of full size mag for your compact. I use these on both my M&P compacts and they make the compact feel like a full size length grip. Takes mag capacity ( to 17 rds for 9mm) up for house gun use and you also have a carry size with regular mags.
-
I've had 4 M&P's plus the 9 Shield. Only one of the four required the Apex kit and that was the 45 c. My 9c's both have a good trigger w/o apex kit and 9 Shield is good. I've owned many Glocks and the M&P has better ergonomic grip and better trigger. I still own one Glock 23 Gen3 RTF2 and three M&P's.

I have this on my gunshow schedule. This is usually a good show with alot of individual dealers with personal firearms and people walking around with guns to trade/sale. I plan on going Saturday morning with a couple of high capacity mag handguns: a Stoger Cougar 8000(made by Beretta) in 9MM and a Smith & Wesson SW40VE w/apex kit in 40 SW.
-
I am going to try and make it. I missed the last show there.

I have had the Marlin 1894 in 357 mag and 45 LC both were marked JM. I used both in cowboy matches and they were accurate and reliable and easy to clean. I got out of cowboy matches and sold both. I wish I had them back. I'm currently looking for a 44 Mag to keep.
