What do I need to start reloading....
bubbadavis replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I mainly load handgun calibers. I got my start with a Dillon Square-Deal-B. The SDB doesn't have dies available for long guns. The price makes it very appealing if you only want to reload for handguns. I use a single stage press for long guns. First thing I would recommend is to get together with someone that reloads and watch them. I learned much more from discussions, etc with someone that reloaded than I did by reading anything. Get a good reloading manual and make sure you are comfortable with the whole process before you start. Go slow and be careful. One good piece of advice I got early on was to select powders that make it impossible to double charge a case. This way you know that you cannot double charge -- which is one of the easist ways to grenade a gun. I'll have to look up all my reloading links. I haven't bought any reloading equipment in ten years or more. Good equipment will last for years (and years). -
Anyone carrying a P239 in .40? or other options...
bubbadavis replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Handguns
Yep, its made by Comptac. They list it on their website as the "Minotaur MTAC Holster". It has the leather backing. I don't really like the leather against my skin when I might sweat. I usually wear some type of t-shirt tucked in. Its more comfortable wearing the holster with some type of shirt under it. The leather does a good job of keeping sweat off of the firearm. I haven't noticed and rust problems at all and I sweat a bunch... maybe I should lose some weight. All in all, I really like the holster. The only drawback is that its a bit pricey. -
I've got a IWB Don Hume and a MTAC for my main carry gun. For me, the MTAC is more comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I like the adjustability of the MTAC.

Oh, I usually carry the P239 in a MTAC. I've found the holster has much to do with comfort and concealability. -

I carry a P239 in .40 most of the time. I have found it to be very easy to conceal. My wife usually can't even tell. The only times I don't carry my Sig, I drop a S&W 442 in my pocket. I've got a nice little pocket holster and it just disappears -- even when I'm wearing shorts. I prefer the Sig but sometimes the little J frame is just the ticket. -
I love my P7. Its my nightstand gun. Shoots great and very safe. Once you get used to squeezing the grip, you'll love it.

A Few Words About Lube....The Great WD-40 Controversy
bubbadavis replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
+1. WD-40 might be OK for cleaning but there is no way I'd use it to lube a gun. Buy a decent lubricant -- they are really cheap compared to the gun. -
The first gun my wife shot was my Model 18. She had no problem with it at all. On the other hand, she didn't like my Browning Hi-Power (.40 S&W) very much!

I've got two S&W Model 18s. I love the little guns -- they are a blast to shoot and cheap. One has some special value since it was my grandfathers. I've got a couple of semiauto 22s also. They are fun to shoot but a piece of me prefers the revolver.

I recently got a Springfield Armory Champion Loaded 1911. Its the commander sized with a pretty nice trigger out of the box. Comes with night sites. The only thing I didn't like about the gun was finding someone that had one. SA isn't turning out too many 1911s these days -- they are busy making plastic pistols! I love my SA 1911. If you're around the Nashville area, maybe we could meet up sometime and I'll let you try mine out.

Yep, I'd bet they were called too! Now that I know this part of the story, I don't think I'd risk carrying in Charter again. Every time you go in the store, they are going to be looking closely. I'd hate to think of what could happen if you disarmed, went in and payed your bill, got back in the car and holstered you weapon, and then the cops (that were called) show up. I think you would have a hard time showing you weren't carrying in the store. You should be innocent until proven guilty but...

Did the owner ask the OP to leave? It sounds to me like the LEO saw him in line and took it upon themselves to kick him out. Maybe the OP can confirm what really took place -- if he knows. I'm not a lawyer (by any means) but the AG opinions explicitly states you can be arrested if the owner asks you leave and you re-enter while carrying. I wouldn't push it -- cable is not worth losing my HCP!

I went to the show this past weekend just to look around. I did leave with a Glock 19 (2 mags, night sights) that I couldn't pass up. I've been looking for the right deal on one and finally found it. The last few shows I ended up walking around a good bit and picking up some odds and ends. There are some deals around -- if you're willing to look and wait.

If you don't have a HCP, you cannot legally have a loaded handgun in the car. Open or concealed does not matter in TN -- you have to have a HCP to have a loaded handgun in the car. You cannot have a loaded rifle or shotgun in the car even if you have a permit as its for handguns only. The only way to be legal without a HCP is to unload the gun (and the magazine) and keep the gun and ammo separated.

I recently got a SA Champion -- the "Loaded" model. I love it. Really nice shooting gun and I just like the way it handles.

carry ing a gun and asked to leave hypothetical
bubbadavis replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Now my keyboard is covered in diet coke! What a great analogy. I've been following this thread and have been so tempted to jump in with my $0.02 -- its become rather obvious that would have been a waste of my time. Getting a place posted based on a technicallity -- thanks for the help. Its not like we have enough enemies with the Tennessean, Darth Naifeh , etc. -
Thanks for the info tcampbell. I'm going to try to get over that way next weekend.

Thanks dunndw! I'll definitely have to make a trip over that way soon. Maybe I should drop the wife off at Opry Mills -- and let her OC without a cell phone. What could possibly happen?

Now that BrandonTN mentioned it, www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums is a great place for information. I haven't checked out their Cherokee section but they've got tons of stuff on Wranglers. Pretty good group of guys for the most part -- kinda like this place but for Jeepers.

I really need to pick up a good gun belt. Do you know if they have any decent gun belts? Anyone know their hours? I live on the other side of Nashville and don't make it to that part of town very often at all. Sounds like I should make a special trip just to check them out.

I usually carry a Sig P239 in .40 S&W in an MTAC. When I just want to drop something in my pocket for a quick run to the grocery store, its a S&W 442 in a pocket holster. I figure .38 +p will do in a real pinch...

I've bought a few things from www.jeepsareus.com for my TJ. They aren't always the cheapest, but they have the strange parts that no-one else seems to have.

S&W Model 41 REAL pricey but many people would say its the best...
