  1. Calling everyone who hides their S/N "paranoid" right off the bat doesn't exactly give the impression of someone who's "trying to understand it".

If you haven't read "How to Win Friends and Influence People", now might be a good time to do so.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me! :P

  2. Have to be in Buckhead Thursday for a CE class. I will be driving from Nashille and thought that I would take the opportunity to stop by any shops that are recommended here. I will be in the Atlanta area through Saturday. There is a gun show in Marietta Saturday. I just though that it would be fun to poke around some. Obviously, those in Tn are preferrable since I could bring any goodies home and save transfers and shipping. Feel free to pm me any suggestions or just jump in here.

    thanks

    Rick

You could bring home long guns as long as you purchased them from a FFL. It works just the same as buying a long gun in TN: cash, background check, and carry.

Obviously, handguns and any non-FFL purchases will require a transfer.

  3. In my experience, cash is king. If you offer them cash to purchase the gun, you stand a better chance of getting a discount. Using plastic costs the shop some money for processing. Using a check means they have to wait a day or two to access the money.

  4. So the question begs to be asked...

After all of the noise made about contacting your Representatives and demanding that they not nominate Harwell, it appears that all was for naught. One can only conclude that either (a.) not enough pressure was put on the Reps or (b.) they just DGAF what their constituents want. Government of the people by the elite.

I didn't put any pressure on my rep, as I don't think it would do any good. Harwell represents my district. In my experience, she never responds to any communication that she doesn't agree with.

  5. Based on the posts I've seen from you, I'm a bit shocked at this comment.

The last thing I want is our scientists held accountable and controlled by Congress.

I'd much rather have Congress held accountable and controlled by scientists!

  6. I agree, but you have to take chances to make progress. Even if they cost a butt-ton of money.

No arguement from me - sounds like we are on the same page. This has potential for massive scientific gains. It could be a waste of large amounts of money. I guess its possible it could cause the end of the world. The actual benefit won't be know for some time.

If we already knew the results, they wouldn't be called experiments. Or, as a friend of mine likes to say: if we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be research.

  7. Yep. Helping unlock the secrets of the universe definitely has no benefit whatsoever. Science is just blasphemy anyway.

There is the chance that it will unlock very, very little of scientific significance. Not downplaying the importance of science at all, but this device could end up being a huge waste of money. It all depends on the scientific returns we get from the thing - actually get not what someone is expecting to discover.

  8. I'd much prefer Casada and Harwell represents my district.

Naifeh pulled some real shenanigans to prevent gun bills from getting out of committee. He knew if they made the house floor, they would have easily passed. The process and procedures in the house allowed him to kill them in committee.

  9. <snip for space> Monkeys will likely fly out of my ass before people stop arguing on forums.

    Enjoy.

For your sake, I hope people don't stop arguing on the internet... cause that would certainly hurt.

  10. Also, we got alot of new blood workin up there. If anyone has ANY problems out of our new employees, we need to know, no matter how small. Need to nip this stuff in the bud early. =)

There is this guy named Daniel that works in the Greenbriar shop that is always causing me trouble... ;)

I stopped by the store last week. Nice place - I commented to Dennis about the 'roominess'. He mentioned that he was working on filling up some of the open space. I did see some familiar faces along with some new blood.

It may be in Hendersonville, but its still Guns and Leather. At least to me, that's a good thing except for my checking account!

  11. Do you carry, clsutton21?

No, he just never goes anywhere where he might need a gun! :)

You could use the same argument for car insurance: just don't drive anywhere you might get in a wreck and you don't need it.

  12. Ah, the joys of a j-frame! I don't like +P in my 442 at all - its just not fun. Now, if the time comes and I have to use it, I'll deal with the pain. Until then, its regular .38 loads for me. I try to practice with my j-frame enough to where I'm confident I'm proficient with it if I ever need it in a self defense situation. But otherwise, I have other handguns that are way more fun on the range.

  13. I always cover up the serial number when I post pics online. Usually I'm posting pics when trying to trade or sell a firearm. Even if I didn't care about posting the s/n, the person that I'm doing business with might. Doesn't hurt to hide and it only takes a couple of minutes to blur it out. Modern image editing software makes life easy.

I can't think of a good reason not to hide the s/n.

  14. They do make some good stuff. Another company is Teraflex. They have, from all reviews I've read, very good kits and great customer support, from a 1 3/4 leveling kit on up to full suspension kits.

Oh, I forgot an important thing to consider, they say JEEP stands for Just empty every pocket. This is true, there is so many things you can spend money on it is unbelievable, tires, wheels, bumpers, skids, gears, HEMI's, . I have a list, I just don't have funds! LOL

Jeeps can be more expensive than guns!

  15. A quick word about lift kits, since someone mentioned them: if you're going to drive on the road and want to lift your Jeep, go with Old Man Emu. They ain't cheap but you'll save the $$$ you'll spend on the cheap lift kit when you replace it later on. Ask me how I know... :)

  16. I've got a 2000 TJ that I drive every day. I'd rather be in my Jeep than drive my wife's CRV.

As for driving in snow, my experience is the Jeep will go just about anywhere. They have a short wheel base, so you have to be careful - if they decided to get sideways you are probably going all the way around. Take your time, go slow, and you shouldn't have any problem in the snow.

Do plenty of research before you buy one. There are differences between the YJ (82?-95), TJ(96-06), and JK (07-up). Each model has its own almost religious following.

  17. I can only image his surprise. I do need to hear this story, hopefully when I have a chance to see this new longslide. I hope you are buying lottery tickets - your luck couldn't be much better!

BTW, I ran across another Sport King at a recent gun show - just like yours. Only they were asking $375 for it...

  18. :

It was NIB for $740.00 before shipping and DT fee.

Did you give the guy a cigarette? :)

How come you always find the good deals? I'll let you make $25 if you wanna get rid of it... :D

I know you've been looking at a longslide for awhile. I'm glad you found a good one at such a steal of a price.

  19. I originally thought it was a Colt Sauer Grand African in .458 Win. Mag when my thumb about ripped my cheek off. But then I got a Styer straight pull bolt action in 8mm x57R and some vintage 1938 Nazi ammo, and as it turned out the Colt wasn't all that bad. Of course it's the most fun in mid August when you're just wearing a t-shirt.

I'll second the Steyr. I've got one of the straight pulls - they are carbine length with a steel butt plate. Neat piece of engineering but not alot of fun to shoot all day.
