I work in the Vandy area.

Its been awhile since I've done any packet-radio. I hope to keep it that way. At least the server and DB performance wouldn't be an issue!
We need a mid-TN TGO/ham club. At least we could talk to each other as the world comes to an end.
-
Most importantly, when the time comes, how to we make sure TGO is up and accessible?
I can go a few days without food (OK, my doctor would tell you quite a few days) but I need my daily TGO fix.

Stay outta illinois
This is great advice on all fronts!

That's not what we were told...
Edit:
for the record all of mine were on the slihouette... of course the silhouette takes up most of the paper anyway so it is hard to miss...
Personally, I would verify any other data presented in the class. It wouldn't be the first time an instructor has given out improper information.
The instructor may have scored the targets that way - but they would have been scoring them incorrectly.
-
Seriously, we were told all you have to do to qualify is hit the paper target... ANYWHERE on the paper target. That's it. Even if it's down in the corner off of the silhouette, as long as it's on the paper it's counted as a hit. There's no bonus points for a bullseye or anything. There's no timed trial, in fact they encourage you to take your time with each shot.
Actually, you have to hit the silhouette for the shot to count. On paper but off the silhouette is a miss.

No. If you buy 'modern' (i.e. non-C&R) firearms you still need the background check.

I don't know why everyone keeps throwing up the Constitution in all these gun/freedom debates. Get hip, y'all, this is America, and America hasn't needed no steenking Constitution for quite some time now.
- OS
Point well taken OS! Its a 'living document' anyway - so whoever is in power can make it say whatever whatever they want!

From the Constitution Article 1 Section 9: "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."
...snip...
Since civilian courts were not operating in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, one could argue that a situation existed for the suspension of habeas corpus.
Civilian courts not operating is not a reason to suspend Habeas Corpus. Rebellion and invasion are the only two reasons given in the constitution to suspend Habeas Corpus.

Use the search - there are plenty of threads on TGO that discuss open vs. concealed carry. Pretty much every aspect, that I can think of, regarding open/concealed carry has already been covered,

Take a look at who the Tennessean is endorsing. And then vote the opposite way...

I thought of this flash mob.
I saw the coverage of this on the news a while back. Personally, I can't classify something as a 'flash mob' when you call the local news stations, have police block off (at least part of) the street, and people are being interviewed before the event. No one was surprised when this occurred - everyone there knew about it.

G&L in Greenbriar has a fair amount of metal guns. I've gotten a couple of 1911s from them over the years. One was a SA loaded (stainless) 4.25" 1911. If you know exactly what you want, call ahead and they'll let you know if they have it in stock.

Don't put all your available cash into the house - you will need some once you move in. Mr. Murphy has a history of showing up at the worst times (like when you're broke). You don't want to become "house poor".

I don't know if I would broadcast on the internet that your class was less than 8 hours. Technically, that means the class didn't meet the state specified standards. The state could even determine that your class was not valid - which would mean taking another class.
-
When I took the class at G&L, they made all shooters hang around until everyone was done - the full 8 hours that the state requires. No one got their certificate until the course was finished and the 8 hours was up.

Main entrances are posted. The anchor stores are not.
Seems like I always wind up entering through Dillards.
If all the entrances to the parking lots are posted, you can't even legally get to the parking lot. Cool Springs also does this - they post the parking lot entrances from the streets so they don't have to post the entrances to the stores/mall.

I don't understand? 45 yards, 25 yards for concealed carry qualification? We shot at 3, 5 and 7 yards. The class I took was great! It was 8 hours long and nobody got bored.
Our instructor was a retired LEO and an excellent teacher.
The TN mandated course of fire involves shooting at 3, 7, and 15 yards. Then a few rounds at the instructor's choice (between 3 and 25 yards).
The state specifies the course of fire for TN HCP classes.

Just make sure you press check your own weapon.
ASP != APPS
I was originally on the same thought train as you MacGyver. But Buford's place is APPS (A.P.P.S Target Shooting versus Street Survival Shooting).

No need to get a gift certificate. One just needs to know and follow the law. Don't trust what you 'hear' from someone but do the necessary research yourself.

Not true! I gave a gun to my Brother who lives out of State and he wanted to be sure it was Legal, so he checked with Dealer's in town and was told, the Gun would have to be shipped from here to a Dealer in his State by a FFL and then be registered to him!
He checked with Scottie on Brainerd Rd (who even deals FA Guns and was told, he would not need to do anything!)
My Brother however did have Scottie transfer ownership from me to my Brother for $45. even though Scottie told him he was wasting $45! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I assume you are talking about a long gun. Your brother did indeed need to do a transfer through a FFL to be legal. If it was a handgun, the FFL messed up. From the ATF FAQ website (http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicensed-persons.html):
Q: From whom may an unlicensed person acquire a firearm under the GCA?
A person may only acquire a firearm within the person’s own State, except that he or she may purchase or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, in person, at a licensee’s premises in any State, provided the sale complies with State laws applicable in the State of sale and the State where the purchaser resides. A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes.

You can take the class if you are a member of GSSF. Don't know about the C&R though. Sorry.

Just make sure the Texas FFL will accept shipments from non-FFL holders.
