  1. This is great advice on all fronts!
  2. Personally, I would verify any other data presented in the class. It wouldn't be the first time an instructor has given out improper information. The instructor may have scored the targets that way - but they would have been scoring them incorrectly.
  3. Actually, you have to hit the silhouette for the shot to count. On paper but off the silhouette is a miss.
  4. 7:40 pm - comcast in Nashville
  5. No. If you buy 'modern' (i.e. non-C&R) firearms you still need the background check.
  6. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/2nd-amendment-issues/60152-unregistered-gun-aka-run-hills.html
  7. Point well taken OS! Its a 'living document' anyway - so whoever is in power can make it say whatever whatever they want!
  8. Civilian courts not operating is not a reason to suspend Habeas Corpus. Rebellion and invasion are the only two reasons given in the constitution to suspend Habeas Corpus.
  9. Use the search - there are plenty of threads on TGO that discuss open vs. concealed carry. Pretty much every aspect, that I can think of, regarding open/concealed carry has already been covered,
  10. Take a look at who the Tennessean is endorsing. And then vote the opposite way...
  11. I saw the coverage of this on the news a while back. Personally, I can't classify something as a 'flash mob' when you call the local news stations, have police block off (at least part of) the street, and people are being interviewed before the event. No one was surprised when this occurred - everyone there knew about it.
  12. G&L in Greenbriar has a fair amount of metal guns. I've gotten a couple of 1911s from them over the years. One was a SA loaded (stainless) 4.25" 1911. If you know exactly what you want, call ahead and they'll let you know if they have it in stock.
  13. Don't put all your available cash into the house - you will need some once you move in. Mr. Murphy has a history of showing up at the worst times (like when you're broke). You don't want to become "house poor".
  14. I don't know if I would broadcast on the internet that your class was less than 8 hours. Technically, that means the class didn't meet the state specified standards. The state could even determine that your class was not valid - which would mean taking another class.
  15. When I took the class at G&L, they made all shooters hang around until everyone was done - the full 8 hours that the state requires. No one got their certificate until the course was finished and the 8 hours was up.
  16. If all the entrances to the parking lots are posted, you can't even legally get to the parking lot. Cool Springs also does this - they post the parking lot entrances from the streets so they don't have to post the entrances to the stores/mall.
  17. The TN mandated course of fire involves shooting at 3, 7, and 15 yards. Then a few rounds at the instructor's choice (between 3 and 25 yards). The state specifies the course of fire for TN HCP classes.
  18. ASP != APPS I was originally on the same thought train as you MacGyver. But Buford's place is APPS (A.P.P.S Target Shooting versus Street Survival Shooting).
  19. No need to get a gift certificate. One just needs to know and follow the law. Don't trust what you 'hear' from someone but do the necessary research yourself.
  20. I assume you are talking about a long gun. Your brother did indeed need to do a transfer through a FFL to be legal. If it was a handgun, the FFL messed up. From the ATF FAQ website (http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicensed-persons.html): Q: From whom may an unlicensed person acquire a firearm under the GCA? A person may only acquire a firearm within the person’s own State, except that he or she may purchase or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, in person, at a licensee’s premises in any State, provided the sale complies with State laws applicable in the State of sale and the State where the purchaser resides. A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes. [18 U.S.C. 922(a)(3) and (5), 922((3), 27 CFR 478.29 and 478.30]
  21. You can take the class if you are a member of GSSF. Don't know about the C&R though. Sorry.
  22. Oh, I called for permission. If the wife's not happy, no one is happy! She puts up with me and my expensive hobbies, so I try not to surprise her.
  23. Stopped in to NSA today just to browse. Owners were friendly as usual. A pocket pistol just happened to follow me home...
  24. Stopped in again today. The guys working the counter were super friendly. Prices were lower than the last time I was in - more in line with what I expect to pay retail. They did give me quite a good price on a used SW M&P.
  25. Sorry for your loss. Even when prepared, its tough to lose a loved one.
