  1. Long gun or hand gun doesn't matter. If his father is out of state, he must go through a FFL to legally transfer the firearm to him. While his dad could buy a long gun from a FFL in TN, a non-licensee to non-licensee transfer is still illegal.
  2. Maybe the 9mm upper is the one attached to the lower?
  3. If the race is on a public, open road (like what was described in the OP), they better be ready for cars on the course!
  4. What kinda work is also important. Some guys are 1911 wizards, others can do wonders with a wheel gun, and some are just good, but not necessarily amazing, at everything. I've seen Sam Hoster's and Chad Kandros's work on 1911s and they do great things. I'm not familiar with their skills on other platforms.
  5. Unfortunately, Oregon blew the opportunity for that rematch last night. I want AR to upset LSU next week so we have an absolute BCS mess. We need some type of playoff - and the argument that the BCS always gives us the two best teams is really hard to make when so many teams can make legitimate arguments to belong in the top 2.
  6. Someone with an explosive offense like Oregon? They pile up a ton of points - except when they played LSU.
  7. Wow - maybe OT isn't needed? We'll find out in 8 seconds...
  8. Well, that explains everything... Just kidding, Mark is a great guy. He taught my HCP class many years ago at G&L. He should do well managing your H'ville store.
  9. You can request the forms from the HCP office and they will mail them to you. Just fill them out and mail them with a check. You can renew 6 months prior to your current expiration date. You can request a duplicate permit at the same time - just make sure you get two applications if you want a duplicate. They require a separate application for a dup.
  10. If you renew at the DMV, the copy of the paperwork you keep serves as your receipt (and works with your expired permit to keep you legal for a specified period of time). If you renew via mail, they send you a letter that serves the same purpose. I don't think either way improves the wait time. BTW, I renewed via mail a couple of months ago. Took between 3-4 weeks mailbox to mailbox (I was out of town when it arrived, so I can't be certain if it was 3 or 4 weeks).
  11. Yeah, but you're just a hothead! :P I gotta agree with you. This is gonna cost them business. I'm not in that area much - but whenever I travel I try to stop in and checkout the local gunshops. You never know when something will have to follow me home. Based on the response here, I don't see myself ever darkening their door. Gun owners have long memories. We all want to feel like the local gun shop wants our business, works to get it, and appreciates it.

I'll be glad to let you try it out. The guys at D&T said they had the upper for awhile - I guess we all got interested at the same time. I put together a new lower for this one but I'm looking for a new stock (the collapsible one seems to be a problem waiting to happen) and glass. I did go out and 'function test' it the other day. Threw an old scope and a collapsible stock on it and put a handful of rounds down range. This is not your father's AR15! Its a blast. Got my dies in the mail yesterday. Time to start working up loads now...

D&T had one in stock last week. Someone must have beat you to it...
  14. They probably bought a used, infinitely safer handgun from the Clinton hi-cap magazine ban days...
  15. They already have. You can thank him for Costco posting, among other things.
  16. Suppressors aren't covered by Form 5320.20. You can get the form online and the instructions list SBR, SBS, machineguns, destructive devices and AOW (I think - don't have the PDF open right now). Why they didn't include suppressors, I'll never know - or ask. As with many gun laws, I can't follow the logic... I'm just glad I don't need to file one when I travel to KY with my can!
  17. We have drives at work that must be decommissioned via physical destruction (according to policy). We usually just take them out and put .308 and .45 holes in them.
  18. I've had drives die prematurely. I've also had them last way past when they should have died. Just because its a newer drive doesn't mean that isn't the problem (even if they shouldn't die early). This is one of those problems that's hard to diagnose second hand - too many possibilities with similar symptoms.
  19. Haunted computer? It is Halloween... Based on the evidence you've laid out, I gotta agree with MacGyver. Sounds very much like what my Dad's laptop started doing - the Windows event logs showed detected bad sectors on the hard drive once I got the thing to boot.
  20. I can easily see the cops checking for a HCP. But they had no reason (based on what's been presented here) to suspect the gun was stolen.
  21. Ask all you want but a barrel is not a firearm. Keeping a barrel in your car is no different than keeping a softball bat, tire iron, or hammer.
  22. Thanks for the link - just installed it.
  23. Thanks Fallguy. Everything else seemed obviously allowed by TCA. Didn't know if they needed a reason to run the serial #.
  24. Anyone want to chime in on the legality of LEO running his serial number? The stop and disarming is clearly allowed by TN law. Without probable cause to believe the pistol is stolen, running the serial number could be a 4th amendment violation. Can the police run the VIN to make sure your car isn't stolen on a simple traffic stop?
