The distances aren't published (anywhere that I know of) but they are in the course plan the state sends the instructors. The range requirements are pretty specific.
-
The HCP class has to be state approved. Their rules state the course must be 8 hours (4 classroom + 4 range): http://www.tn.gov/sos/rules/1340/1340-02/1340-02-03.pdf.
When I took my class (at G&L several years ago), the classroom portion was 4+ hours. The range portion required shooting in heats. You couldn't get your certificate and leave until all heats were finished though. Overall, it was 8+ hours.

Chip also setup my trust. It was a painless process and Chip was great to work with.

Jeff at Custom Gunsmithing for Glocks, Remington Shotguns, AR-15's and Revolvers - Mossy Creek Custom has a couple of my handguns right now. He's done work for me previously and I've always been satisfied. In the spirit of full disclosure, he was a friend of mine before he was my gunsmith - but I've got other friends I wouldn't let near my firearms

I'd like to join if it ain't too late. I just noticed this thread: I was traveling for work last week and couldn't make time for TGO!

Sure seems like it. I dunno who started the charging for parking...at first i thought it was the Fairground board/Mayor who want to stop the shows...now I wondr if its the gun show promoter, looking to make more money, lol.
It was the fair board and mayor.

If it is a gift of a long gun, then you have no issues.
<snip>
Since he is out of state, then handgun transfers have to go through the FFL process, unless you loan it to him.
Long gun or hand gun doesn't matter. If his father is out of state, he must go through a FFL to legally transfer the firearm to him. While his dad could buy a long gun from a FFL in TN, a non-licensee to non-licensee transfer is still illegal.

Maybe the 9mm upper is the one attached to the lower?

Runners aren't expecting cars on the course and can make a sudden move to the side outside the cones.
If the race is on a public, open road (like what was described in the OP), they better be ready for cars on the course!

What kinda work is also important. Some guys are 1911 wizards, others can do wonders with a wheel gun, and some are just good, but not necessarily amazing, at everything.
I've seen Sam Hoster's and Chad Kandros's work on 1911s and they do great things. I'm not familiar with their skills on other platforms.

Unfortunately, Oregon blew the opportunity for that rematch last night.
I want AR to upset LSU next week so we have an absolute BCS mess. We need some type of playoff - and the argument that the BCS always gives us the two best teams is really hard to make when so many teams can make legitimate arguments to belong in the top 2.
-
I thought the LSU- Bama game was very boring. I didn't see two great defenses as much as two inept offenses. I'd like to see an offense that can normally score lots of points play either of them. I guess we'll see once Arkansas plays LSU next week
Someone with an explosive offense like Oregon? They pile up a ton of points - except when they played LSU.

Wow - maybe OT isn't needed? We'll find out in 8 seconds...

Unfortunately Lonnie retired this year . Mark is over at H'ville as the manager.
Well, that explains everything...
Just kidding, Mark is a great guy. He taught my HCP class many years ago at G&L. He should do well managing your H'ville store.

Mine renews in 2012. What exactly is the renewal procedure? I was under the impression that you had to renew at DMV which I was dreading like the plague!
You can request the forms from the HCP office and they will mail them to you. Just fill them out and mail them with a check. You can renew 6 months prior to your current expiration date. You can request a duplicate permit at the same time - just make sure you get two applications if you want a duplicate. They require a separate application for a dup.
-
If you renew at the DMV, the copy of the paperwork you keep serves as your receipt (and works with your expired permit to keep you legal for a specified period of time). If you renew via mail, they send you a letter that serves the same purpose.
I don't think either way improves the wait time.
BTW, I renewed via mail a couple of months ago. Took between 3-4 weeks mailbox to mailbox (I was out of town when it arrived, so I can't be certain if it was 3 or 4 weeks).

Glad you had a good experiance with his shop. But look at all the business this has cost him now. The more I read this the more it pisses me off. You never know who you are really talking to on the phone or in a email.
Yeah, but you're just a hothead! :P
I gotta agree with you. This is gonna cost them business. I'm not in that area much - but whenever I travel I try to stop in and checkout the local gunshops. You never know when something will have to follow me home. Based on the response here, I don't see myself ever darkening their door.
Gun owners have long memories. We all want to feel like the local gun shop wants our business, works to get it, and appreciates it.

yeah, from what I hear, you beat me by a couple days. grrr
I'll be glad to let you try it out. The guys at D&T said they had the upper for awhile - I guess we all got interested at the same time.
I put together a new lower for this one but I'm looking for a new stock (the collapsible one seems to be a problem waiting to happen) and glass. I did go out and 'function test' it the other day. Threw an old scope and a collapsible stock on it and put a handful of rounds down range. This is not your father's AR15! Its a blast.
Got my dies in the mail yesterday. Time to start working up loads now...

They probably bought a used, infinitely safer handgun from the Clinton hi-cap magazine ban days...

Well, with all the stuff i have heard about Kwik, I hope he is stopped in his tracks. I mean i have no ill will toward the guy, but I can see if he keeps on persuing these endeavours it can't end well for him.
I'm just worried these stunts he pulls make it harder for the rest of us.
They already have. You can thank him for Costco posting, among other things.

Yeah, I guess I'm going back to the ATF website to study up. I thought you needed to clear suppressors, sbr, sbs, machineguns when crossing state lines. I don't own a suppressor but thought it was in the same category. I guess if I pick one up I'll be more educated on the subject.
Suppressors aren't covered by Form 5320.20. You can get the form online and the instructions list SBR, SBS, machineguns, destructive devices and AOW (I think - don't have the PDF open right now). Why they didn't include suppressors, I'll never know - or ask.
As with many gun laws, I can't follow the logic...
I'm just glad I don't need to file one when I travel to KY with my can!
-
I wonder if he filed ATF Form 5320.20 to transport the silencer across state lines.
Its not a requirement for suppressors.

MTBF isn't what it used to be. As a forensics firm, we go throught dozens, if not hundreds of hard drives a year. Though it pains me to say it, they really don't make them like they used to anymore. Nothing makes me madder than having a pretty new drive fail. Since ours generally contain evidence we can't just send them back - it's off to the shredder (which in and of itself is some consolation).
We have drives at work that must be decommissioned via physical destruction (according to policy). We usually just take them out and put .308 and .45 holes in them.
Is this a search and is it legal?

Hey Dave, do you know of any case law, etc. to back this up? While a judge can force you to testify in a trial (under the threat of jail time for contempt) they can't, to my knowledge, force you to testify against yourself. There are lots of trials where defendants don't take the stand. Even when testifying in another's trial, you can plead the 5th and refuse to answer questions.
