Any shotgun reloaders around? Used Hulls
Obiwan replied to 1madss's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I've also re-used hulls in the past, but for a slightly different purpose. I made these candles as a birthday present for a friend. Anyway... just wanted to say, there are many uses for shotgun shell hulls. :) -
Active Shooter @ Navy Medical Center San Diego?
Obiwan replied to GlockSpock's topic in General Chat
Update: San Diego PD and FBI SWAT teams surround the suspect in the basement after three more "shots" were heard. The man is being questioned for his overly loud use of a hammer while the FBI is inspecting the board into which six nails were driven to ensure they do not pose a safety risk to a stupid, panicky public of liberal hippie nuts.... gah! -
Fake. Unbelievably, not everything you read on the Internet is true. :) http://globalnews.ca/news/2388399/irish-tv-reporter-becomes-internet-sensation-for-live-report-during-storm/ There are others like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yFj998u_5I

Bill allows suits over gun-free zone incidents
Obiwan replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
I wonder how quickly this proposed law could be nullified. POSTED: Warning. This establishment prohibits firearms on its premises. By entering this establishment, you agree to hold the business owner and associates harmless of any liability and agree to waive any legal rights for recourse. Enter at your own risk. (Dining here can have the following side-effects: Catching a cold, catching food-poisoning and/or ebola. Dinning can lead to nausea, illness, and/or death.) Just like any other #$&^% contract/agreement/bill-of-sale/etc that disclaims... well... pretty much everything. -
I added fiber optic Firesights from Williams Gunsights to my 22/45. Got them from Amazon for $40. They are small dots but bright. They're great.

It's starting. Occasionally, I still read the Spiegel magazine. There was an article recently about confrontations during New Years Eve celebration between party folks and refugees in Cologne (English translation is available on the web site). It was mainly gang-like activity, theft and groping/sexual assaults. But not just by a small group. Those ... shall we say.. undesirable elements are getting much larger in volume. It's certainly not the Germany I remember (I was born in Cologne). But yeah, it appears it's all being downplayed. But it's making the news now and public voices are getting stronger. To the point where politicians are starting to realize that they will have to do something. Otherwise, it's gonna get real ugly there soon. I'm glad to call Tennessee my home and to have the freedoms we can enjoy here in the US. Luckily those refugees (Syria etc) can just not simply walk over here. :) And if they do, I'm sure they would not like what they will face here. I would hope we would not mess around. At least I won't.

Doesn't look like it's just France. I was watching some other, related videos from the one posted, and it appears to be all over Europe. I had no idea things where that bad. Europe really needs to close their borders and start deporting or several countries may slip into civil unrest. Rape is already happening, pillaging and plundering surely is next. Thank God we have the second amendment here. At this point, I would not feel safe in Europe without a gun or three.

I'm sorry. I'll promise I'll do my best this year to get this number increased and TN's rating improved. :D

I swear some TSA folks just want to make people uncomfortable because they don't like their jobs and are themselves uncomfortable. Perhaps one should play against their expectations and express some ...uhm... exaggerated enjoyment during the pat downs. "ooh yeah, that's nice, more to the left, that's it... ooh... yeah...". I wonder if that would speeds things up a bit.

Greetings! I had an account here for a while (since I've known David from a different forum he ran), but mostly lurked once in a while. However, recently I've been reading TGO more frequently, and started posting, so I guess it's time for me to officially say Hello. I've lived in Middle Tennessee since 93 when I moved here from Germany. As a permanent resident, (I'm not a US citizen yet.... yeah, I know, I need to change that, hopefully before this years election), I originally thought I wouldn't be allowed to own guns. I was under the impression that gun ownership was a right reserved for US citizens. So a decade or so ago, after the first season of Top Shot aired, I got interested in guns again and only then found out that it was legal for me to own guns. And thus the seed was planted... My first gun was a Remington 870 Marine Magnum. I added a side-saddle, small Tac light, and single-sling attachment. Since I'm a bit on the skinny side and lack... uhm... natural padding... I added a recoil-reducing Knoxx SpecOps stock, which I later replaced with a Knoxx Compstock since I found out that I prefer a regular stock over pistol grip. With the Compstock I can shoot slugs and turkey loads all day without getting a single mark. Anyway, I enjoy shooting clays and the occasional milk jugs. Next up was a Ruger 22/45 which got adorned with fiber optic sights. It's an awesome gun, very accurate and fun to shoot. But the grip is too small for my hands, even with a HandAll strapped over it. At some time at a range with friends, we rented several guns, including a CZ75, and it fit my hand perfectly. So I laid plans to acquire one. Since new CZ's appear to come on the market only a few times a years and sell very quickly, and work and other hobbies always side-tracked me, it took a while for things to align properly. But last November, I received an email from Buds regarding my wishlist item (CZ75B, SS). After browsing CZ-Customs web site for their number, I got even more giddy since it showed the 2075BD in stock on their web site! It looked like a Christmas miracle! So I called in and talked to Rob, who responded with "Huh? It's showing available online? Let me check." (a few minutes later) "No sorry, we don't have one.". I guess that meant there were plenty of folks on their waiting list and none was left over for me after all. Being tired of waiting, I decided on a 2075B without decocker, which was still in stock at Buds, and added that to the cart as well. Hallelujah! A Merry CZ-Christmas it was! (In retrospect, I prefer the manual safety. It's easily decocked in a safe manner, and trigger pull is butter smooth). I already added adjustable fiber optic sights to the 75, and also lightly polished the trigger bar and sear cage. Has about 400 rounds through it so far. I don't think it needs anything else as this time as the trigger is very sweet the way it is. The only thing it needs are... well... more ammo. The RAMI will be sent eventually to Cajun Gun Works for Meprolight Tritium sight install and probably a trigger replacement. (It also ate 300 rounds or so already without hiccups). I love both CZ! And I seem to have caught the CZ fever since I'm already lust^H^H^H^Hyearning after a 75 PCR (but may settle for a steel compact if a PCR remains elusive). I'd also like to have a semi-auto submachine gun, probably MP5, SBR'ed and suppressed. Or possibly an MPX or AR-15-based one. Then maybe an AK47. Then perhaps.... Ahhh...I see now how the addiction starts. Well... until such time, I shall enjoy what I have. I look forward to discussions and knowledge sharing in this forum. And perhaps we'll meet sometime at a TGO meeting, if y'all get together at times. As you can tell, I have much to learn about and from this community. Cheers, Frank PS: Regarding my screen name: No, I don't like Star Wars at all. That nickname was bestowed upon me since some people occasionally pronounce my last name like Kenobi.

I'll play. I'd like to get a subgun this year, SBR'ed and silenced. I'm still debating between an MP5, an MPX or AR-based one. I guess there's not much difference between an AR with 9mm barrel and an MPX, except cost (gun and parts/accessories). And as I'm writing this, I'm leaning again more towards an MP5. Just an original classic. *sigh*... I may have a Ruger 22/45 for sale soon. Stainless bull barrel, target model. Not threaded though. Full adjustable fiber optic sights and 5 mags. Magazine-disconnect safety is removed, but can put it back in if desired. If I sell it, I'll post it up on TGO first.

Heh... Yeah, the current one is green. The one I had before was white, and the one before was pink. They all have the same info on it though... you know, name, alien registration number, and the words "Permanent Resident card". Can't really be confused with a drivers license...lol
-
I'd say you're a lucky man. When I got home with my Christmas presents (CZ75 and 2075), she picked up the RAMI and said: "Oooh, this one is cute. Can I have it?"

Please don't start raving about how beautiful, accurate and smooth CZ pistols are. CZ's are highly sought-after as it is, and a lot of models don't stay on the market for long, and if you miss your chance, you're back on the waiting list. If you get more people excited about CZ's now, it will just get worse for us! Keep moving on. Nothing to see here. Just heavy steel pistols, nothing special. Move on. Look there, new Glocks! Just kidding. Glad you're enjoying it! I love my CZ's, and want more. It's the CZ fever! :)

I was about to reply with the same definition (as in TCA §55-50-102). I guess it can be argued that due to the conditional status, you are not yet permitted to reside here permanently. It's very possible that you need to wait until you get the conditional status removed, and become a Lawful Permanent Resident. But do as suggested and contact the Dept of Safety.

Or perhaps it has something to do with the "executive order". I was meeting one of my employees at Nashville Armory today. 3 hour wait for a lane! I figured Royal would look the same (being new and all), and he didn't want to waste more time driving around to other ranges. So we parted and I went back to M'boro, stopped by at OnTarget, and that place was packed too! Looks like we need more shooting ranges. I mean, I'm happy that gun ownership is increasing. But I also would like to go shoot without waiting half a day. Thanks Obama. :(

Pending Gun EO Chatter, Update See Post #114
Obiwan replied to runco's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Speaking of Smart Guns, here a couple links: How Obama's edict will resurrect smart guns (from a recent Slashdot article) Of course, we've seen it before. Here some spiffy marketing. A gun that defaults to a non-firing state? I think only the free market will show how that will turn out. Unfortunately, it may lead to several deaths before politicians and early adopters will re-think Smart Gun technology. Perhaps it's time to lay in a good supply of good old-fashioned "mechanical guns".... -
Congrats! I'm still on the fence for my subgun build. It's between an MP5 and an MPX (both SBR'ed and suppressed). I hear the MP5 blows more crap in your face when suppressed, while the MPX doesn't. But you can't beat the looks of an MP5. Such a classic!

Oh, sorry. Since the demise of TNJeeps, there isn't a local group I can personally recommend. I did hear good things about the Mule Town Jeepers. There's also a group in Clarksville (forgot the name... Clarksville Crawlers maybe?) and one in Chattanooga (CORE - Chattanooga Off-Road Enthusiasts I think). Heck, I should look around myself again since it's been too long since I'm been off-pavement...

Snorkels are overrated. I agree with your approach, though. That's what I did when I got mine back in 2011. I added new front and read bumpers, a winch, side-armor/rocksliders, and an air-compressor. (I'm not counting a couple minor mods like CB and Ham radio, carpet removal, etc). I also added a small 1" spacer lift. But I'm still on 32" tires. With that, I went everywhere the lifted rigs went. Okay, I'm probably a bit banged up underneath, and had to replace my oil pan once, but I was still able to hang with the taller rigs. The thing is... it's HOW you wheel that matters, not how tall your lift is. If you learn how to pick your lines, you can wheel a lot of terrain you might have found impossible before. I mean, look at what some the old Landrovers traverse. It's important to hone your skills first, and I venture to say that an unlifted rig is better at learning off-road skills with than a souped-up crawler. It's just like guns. You should be able to learn shooting skills such that you can pick up any gun and shoot it well. Not just your decked out race gun. It's all about learning the fundamentals well. It costs you less and you still have tons of fun. Go add the accessories that are useful on the trail (recovery gear, etc), then go out and have some fun. And if you really get into off-roading, you can still add a lift later, tailoring it to your needs. Cheers, Frank (former TNJeeps.com addict)

I just put these on my new CZ75B: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/240352/lpa-ttf-adjustable-sight-set-cz-75-85-steel-fiber-optic So far I only had one range session in (this was a recent purchase, one of my Christmas presents. The other one being a CZ2075B for carry). So far I'm happy. If you're comfortable with basic gun-smithing, install is straight forward. The front-sight needs a groove filed in for the roll-pin. (I used a small triangular fie). Some people drill, but filing a groove seems to be sufficient. Cheers!
