  1. You know you're in the north when you are served sugar packets next to your iced tea. What the hell is that? Yankees are to damn lazy to mix the sugar in WITH the tea when it's hot and then pour it over ice. Damn Yankees...
  2. Mailed on 2/10. Received on 3/15. Funny thing is I received the license but haven't received the information packet that is usually sent first.
  3.   Thank you brother.  When it comes to things passed down the value is rarely monetary in nature.  I hope to pass that same sentiment down to my two younguns.  And I hope they feel the same as they mature.  Resale value only makes the desire to hold on to it that much better.
  4. He was living history.  TV made much of his exploits but the real medals on his chest told most of the story...
  5.   Thanks Red, this is excellent info.  Mark dates back to mid to late 1800's.
  6.   The barrel is solid brass and the hammer / trigger is steel.  Thanks for the counsel, I haven't touched it.  It is in amazing condition and wouldn't think of messing it up with modern cleaners and polishes.  It is truly a family heirloom and I'd never sell this pistol.  Now that I've played with it some I'll put it back in a new shadowbox on the wall and just "admire' it everyday.
  7. Given the condition, I'd bet folding money this 100+ year old pistol would function fine today.
  8.   This pistol has been well taken care of through the years.  I can tell from working the action on it that it was well made.  I really don't think after examining it closely that it was fired that much.  I put a ruler to the barrel end and it measures close to 12mm.
  9.   Wish I had more family history on this gun.  Farthest I can trace it is my wife's great-grandfather.  They were from a line of Dutch immigrants.
  10.   I've tested the barrel caliber.  It swallows a 9mm and a 45acp is tight.  The ball coming out of this thing was nice size.
  11.   It does have a nipple beneath the hammer.  Looks like I have my terminology wrong.  Any idea how old this might be?
  12.   Total agreement.
  13. Good choice in pistol and wife!  Light weight 45 with enough grip to control the recoil.  Don't own one but I have shot one.
  14. Remote research station in the arctic.  Rampant virus infected flesh eating zombie like creatures.  What's not to like?
  15. Several years ago I received an heirloom after a relative passed away. It is an ELG black powder flintlock derringer. When I received it, it was in a shadowbox frame and I had it hung on my office wall. Couple weeks ago I bumped the frame and it fell and shattered. So...It gave me an opportunity to get a closer look at the pistol and it has my curiosity up a bit. Hammer and trigger function well. Anyone know much about these old pistols? I've attached some photos below.
  16. I mailed my application on 2/10.  BATFE cashed my check the following week.  So roughly 4 weeks and I've seen no correspondence back from them.  I will update once I've heard.
  17. Remember.  Head shots only...did I already say head shots only?
  18. Why not?  Thanks for the heads up...
  19. Nice!  Love the paw print.
  20. sweet!
  21. beware the might of the pen and the phone....
  22. Genuine POS.
  23. The Russia connection is likely in danger.  Nice buy but put some funds into ammo sooner than later.
  24. I don't buy the "caliber must start with a 4" mentality for handguns.  Like many of us TGOers I own all calibers and have my preferences but my Grandfather's preferred gun was a 22 long barrel revolver.  When he was a toddler he pulled a pot of boiling water off of a pot belly stove and crippled his right hand.  He could shoot a rifle right handed but not a handgun.  He grew up perfecting his aim shooting a handgun with his left hand and was one of the best shots I've ever seen.  I asked him more than once why he relied upon that 22 revolver over a larger bullet and he always responded that it ain't the size of the bullet but where you put it that matters.
