  1. I finished 17th overall, would have been better if I hadn't blown up on 2 stages. A good time was had by all! We finished by 02:30pm even w/ 93 shooters (for anyone who's interested but concerned about the length of the matches).   Daniel, I saw your other thread but didn't have time to reply. I'll be in Montgomery on the 20th. Maybe you, Rickey, and I can shoot together. I got an email from Alabama that said we could form our own squads on match day. I won't finish as high as you guys but it should be a blast (no pun intended). I just figured I would go and get whipped by some new guys!   Al Swymer
  2. Keep this in mind the next time you hear a politician talking about ANY subject.
  3. Devin, No, you don't have to shoot .22. Some guys shoot .22 pistol, some shoot .22 rifle, and some shoot centerfire pistol. They should be shooting, rain or shine.
  4. You got me on that one, Mike.
  5. NYPD just got slammed in court for their "stop and frisk" policy. Now this? How stupid can Bloomberg be? He must like being in court. No, this will not survive a court challenge. BTW, the NAACP is on his butt now over the "soda control", saying it is racist.
  6. It wasn't frustration w/ the new shooters (not their fault), it was just that A LOT more shooters showed up than anyone expected. Last Saturday was an special match (more stages than usual and lunch provided by the club), so the huge number of shooters threw everyone off a little. New shooters are great and always welcome. The more, the merrier! Like 2A said, try USPSA and IDPA (the steel shoot on the 4th Sat is fun too); find which is best for you (maybe all!).
  7. ORSAIDPA is the website to check out. It will answer many of your questions. You can even check out the stages we shot last Saturday. Also, check the "links"; the national IDPA website is on there as well as the club in Cleveland (they have a very good club too).
  8. You can use a revolver (I do), but you won't beat the speedsters w/ autos. It's fun! To learn more about the matches, check out the ORSA action pistol web site (also the ORSAIDPA website).
  9. We'll be shooting IDPA this Saturday (9/03), 09:30. Come and check it out.
  10. My son and I will be there. Even w/ 89 shooters, we still finished by 2:30pm, so that shouldn't deter anyone.
  11. You can use a 19/23 frame as a model, mark the 22 frame using the 23 as an overlay and then go to work. A coping (I think that's right, small saw w/ thin blade) saw and a dremel tool will do it. Just go slow so you don't overdo it. You can always remove more but you can't put it back!
  12. By the way, if you need any work done on a revolver, the smith named Joe (can't remember the last name) at CCA is top notch. Not everyone knows their way around wheelguns, but Joe does!
  13. Bull! It has everything to do w/ Obama and unions. But, they aren't alone. You are partially right about both Bushes but don't forget Clinton and NAFTA. They are all to blame, republican and democrat alike. If you are going to point fingers, don't leave out your own socialist favorites.
  14. Of course it's not rocket science, or you and I probably wouldn't be talking about it! I was making a reference to the union types who slavishly support Obama because he's for the "little guy". If you happen to be one of those, feel free to get your panties in a knot.
  15. I guess his union lackeys didn't get the memo.
  16. If your gun is identical to the one pictured above (2 1/2") it would be a round butt, K frame. That will help when you start looking for grips.
  17. I agree with you about politicians trying to manipulate us, but I also think this "southern strategy" is BS. If folks would just apply the same common sense to politics as they do to choosing an auto mechanic, maybe things would get better. Unfortunately, it seems that there is a "cult of a title" today. Too many people blindly accept pure garbage from other people just because "he's a doctor/lawyer/preacher/whatever"! He/she may also be the dumbest doctor who ever pooped between a pair of boots! Use your brain, folks! The easiest way to figure out who is pushing something, is to find out who profits by it.
  18. Understand what you are saying about the Reagan spending BUT the concept of smaller gov't isn't a trick or strategy; it's the constitution and the wisdom of our founding fathers. They (the people who had "been there, done that" living under kings and tyrants) knew that big gov't IS inherently evil (if not from the start, it becomes so). I've made the same argument against the "patriot act" for years. If the people give too much power to gov't (regardless of who is CURRENTLY in control), eventually someone will be in charge who will use the very same power against the people. It's just the way it is. So, if you think ANY big gov't is good, you and I will never agree: Not that I think you will lose any sleep over it. Any gov't big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take everything you have.
  19. I lost interest when it seemed that we were all going to branded "racists" again. It seems to me, that is as much a political tactic employed by liberals today to silence opposition as it is true in any region of the country. If we continue to fall for the "us vs them" (Repub vs Dem), then we are already lost. As for me, I think I'll support any candidate who is for smaller gov't regardless of what party they belong to. I'll vote for the conservative and worry less about the "R" or "D" behind their name.
  20. The matches are always laid back. Come back next month.
  21. It was a good match. Grumpy, what were you shooting? I might have seen you.
  22. He reminds me of the Iraqi propaganda rep who was on TV every day during the war. He knew he was lying, most everyone else knew he was lying, but there he was every day, spewing the party line. It would be funny if not so sad.
  23. If your power goes off for two weeks, they will still charge you for the whole month (pro-rate). If your water is polluted they will fix it maybe, but will never admit fault (good luck suing the gov't). NHTSA? Really? Can you say Toyota? If you spill a quart of oil on the ground, the EPA will be there to fine you within a day. If the gov't dumps toxic waste on your property, it's your fault stupid! If your home is burglarized, too bad for you. Police are only responsible for protecting "the public", not you in particular. What are the odds that you'll get any of your property back? USPS? Really? Can you say belly up? Can you say union, comrade? You remind me of the "snowbirds" that move down south when they retire. They come down here because of the lower cost of living and lower taxes. Then, many of them (not all of them, though) start trying to turn their new home into the same kind of crap pile they just left! It never ceases to amaze me. I would like to meet you, though. The last time I laid eyes on an eastern European communist was across the Berlin Wall. Didn't like them then, and still don't. Rather than trying to turn this country into what you left, would it not be easier and better for us all, if you just went home?
  24. At least for the time being. Afraid that may change soon.
