  1. For a defensive handgun, you can't beat them.
  2. Check Gunbroker.com, I'm sure you can find a good used S&W revolver there that will be in your price range. As far as semi-autos are concerned, try Gunbroker or CDNN Investments. One of these will probably have a used S&W or Glock in that range (or close). DON'T FORGET to check w/ Rabbi. He has a gun shop in Nashville and has good used guns pretty regularly.
  3. You're wasting your breath. The shrill cries of "Burn the witch" always come from the Glock haters on the site, right before they accuse those of us who defend Glocks of being members of a cult. It never ceases to amaze.
  4. After reading a couple of your posts in this thread, I'm inclined to believe that you're still sticking your head into holes, in this case your own! JUST KIDDING, don't get mad at me. I just couldn't pass that one up.
  5. Opinion vs reality... what a concept. TNDixieGirl hit it on the head. Glocks excel in the same venues where 1911s excel; where speed and accuracy are more important than "OMG I hope I don't shoot myself w/ this gun thingy". By the way, I carry w/ one in the chamber. I am also not afraid of my gun and don't presume to tell anyone else what is best for them. That would make me a puffed up, self-proclaimed ninja... or just a bonehead.
  6. If you haven't broken a firing pin retaining pin in one of the newer guns or the roll pin that retains the block in the older guns, you just haven't shot the gun enough. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. It happens, not a lot, but it happens.
  7. Too bad it's not a Glock. It wouldn't have broken at 6000 rounds and, if it did,you could get parts this side of Croatia. Just giving you a hard time, it sounds like Jason can fix you right up.
  8. People tend to rush/jerk the trigger when shooting at a larger target. How many times have you heard: "I couldn't possibly miss a man at 3 feet!"?
  9. Don't UZIs fire from an open bolt? Could this have been a suicide? I don't know (I'm not running the poor guy down), it just sounds strange.
  10. Tasers are used to CONTROL people. Anyone (not Police) who wants to control you but not kill you (right away) does mean to do you serious harm. It seems to me that these things are only useful to police and rapists/serial killers. Needless to say, I don't like them.
  11. It's a pretty small gun w/ snappy recoil. Make sure you're not bumping the slide lock when you shoot.
  12. I agree w/ Mars! Just joking, Mars, take it easy. We're good as long as we don't discuss Glocks. Lights on guns are OK in special, very specific circumstances but are not a good idea for general use. Of course, that's just my opinion.

5.5-6.5lb trigger pull, DAO. I can't wait to hear how much safer this gun is compared to a Glock.

It's a Glock w/ interchangeable backstrap and hammer!
  15. Woof Woof Woof
  16. Not all of my comments about the Glock haters were in reference to you specifically, Dave. Sorry about the confusion.
  17. I did seek out better training, ON MY OWN. I didn't wait for the dept to do it for me. Excellence is always individual, it can't be instituted, it must be worked for. I was afraid sometimes. It kept me sharp and kept me from doing something stupid that would get me or someone else hurt. It kept me from charging in like the big bad PO-liceman w/ something to prove. Sounds like that might have been a problem for you. Not all armed encounters are the same. One has to adjust to the situation. Always having your finger on the trigger isn't the answer. Confident officers using good tactics usually have options. Try this at the range sometimes. From a ready position, start w/ finger on the trigger and then off the trigger. Engage a target on signal using a timer. You may find that there's little or no difference in response time.
  18. Don't know where you worked but I was a cop too. Most departments DO NOT have excellent training, they have the "lowest common denominator" training. Do you contend that the same depts that buy Glocks because they are cheaper then turn around and spend a lot of time/money on training? That makes no sense. It seems to me that the guys that prefer Glocks ON THIS SITE generally ask sensible questions and make dispassionate arguments whereas the Glock haters are the ones that run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Your prejudice against the pistols is so strong that you argue yourselves in circles and contradict what you yourself said 5 minutes ago. You talk about the "best" guns for CCW carriers in one breath and then start talking about some ninja BS like going through life w/ your finger on the trigger. What does that have to do w/ the average CCW guy? Are there some circumstances where it would make sense to have one's finger on the trigger? Sure, but those would be the exception rather than the rule. Just some friendly advice: Don't start believing your own press. No matter who you are (or were), when you start to believe your own BS there's always someone just around the corner ready to eat your lunch.
  19. I guess if a man were clearing caves in Afghanistan and knew anyone inside would be hostile, then having his finger on the trigger would make sense. But if he were working in an area where there might be bystanders, that same action would make him a fool. I was never and am not now a ninja, so I don't know. I was just a cop. The thing I feared most was hurting an innocent by mistake. I accepted the risks of the job and worked hard to keep myself from getting hurt but not to the detriment of some poor kid in the dark. Of course, that's just me. If some cowboy ninja shoots me by accident, I hope: for his sake that he makes that first shot count or he'll be having a bad day // and for my sake that he owns a nice house.
  20. I have used them and they work well. Plus, it's inexpensive and really ticks off the gun snobs.
  21. You can take a Glock apart w/ a ball point pen if you try, so it's not really for me. The reason for the space and cutout in the Glock back strap is to allow the shooter to reach in and pull a stuck magazine. When one plugs that hole, he may end up causing himself problems. Granted, this is seldom a problem w/ Glocks, but it could happen.
  22. I don't have any direct experience w/ this thing, but I don't think it's a very good idea. If the part of the lock that prevents trigger movement is metal, and it bears on a plastic part of the frame... well, you can figure out what that could lead to. I guess the guy w/ the G20 will find out if the thing has any weaknesses, being that he is shooting a 10mm. It just looks like a solution looking for a problem to me, kind of like the plugs some folks put in their pistol butts. That's just my opinion.
  23. There is a lot of anti-Glock BS. I guess that's the price of being on top. I don't think I'm a "Glock nut", I just can't stand by and let the BS go unanswered. It's a character flaw. To me, it's all about results. I couldn't care less about the design or manufacture of the gun. If it's reliable, shoots good, and lasts that about does it for me. I've tried and liked many, but none work as well for me as the Glocks (9mm to be specific). There are many other guns I like, but wouldn't carry them to defend my life unless I had no choice. It's not that they wouldn't do, they would, just not as well as a good G17 or G19. It's not personal, it's business.
  24. You have a right to your opinion just like anyone else. I just don't see how a man can carry a Kel-Tec and then rag on Glocks. But... then again, it's your butt on the line not mine. Some of your opinions are logical but I always get the sneaking feeling that there's some subconscious gun snobbery at the bottom of it all.
  25. I don't know about all Detective Specials, but mine is a sweet shooter too. My wife swears by that gun and won't have anything else.
