I have about gave up on TV all together. I cut dish about 6 mos ago. I have saved over $500 so far. I can live without TV, but likely not my internet at this stage of my comfort living. Maybe the internet providers know this, and are trying to squeeze me for my dough! Everybody wants your money, everybody!

Who do you have your auto and homeowners insurance with?
runco replied to jeff43's topic in General Chat
I have State Farm, and I know I pay a premium over other providers. However, I have had 3 claims in the past 15 years significant clams, and not one issue, or not one misstep by State Farm. And I am a critical high expectation customer service oriented type of person! But I would not begrudge anyone who is tired of the high cost! -
http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/24435641/2014/01/13/shots-fired-at-wesley-chapel-movie-theater A moviegoer lost his life inside a Pasco County theater Monday afternoon after a dispute over texting with a retired police officer. According to the sheriff's office, the dispute happened before the 1:20 showing of 'Lone Survivor' had even gotten underway at the Cobb CineBistro at Grove 16 complex on Wesley Grove Blvd. Investigators say two couples had gotten into an argument over noise. "The victim was on his cell phone; he was texting. We believe he was making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation between the suspect and the victim," Sheriff Chris Nocco explained. A witness recalled seeing the agitated man -- later identified by deputies as Curtis Reeves -- get up and leave in an apparent attempt to find a manager. When he came back alone, the argument escalated. Charles Cummings told FOX 13 he heard the victim say he was texting his 3-year-old daughter before Reeves pulled out a pistol. "Their voices start going up, there seems to be a confrontation, somebody throws popcorn, then bang, he was shot," said Cummings, who was there to celebrate his birthday. "I heard the victim say, 'I can't believe...,' then he fell on us." "I asked if the guy was OK, and he started gurgling blood and then fell," recalled Cummings' son, who said he ran to call 911. Both the man, identified by deputies as Chad Oulson, and his wife Nicole were struck by the single shot. Oulson, 43, was hit in the chest and died, while Nicole was hit in the hand when she put her hand up in front of her husband. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An off-duty Sumter County deputy inside the theater was able to grab the gun and detain Reeves until deputies arrived, the sheriff added. Reeves, a 71-year-old retired Tampa police officer, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. A 2005 Tampa Bay Times article also described him as a former director of security for Busch Gardens. Moments after he was named as the suspect, Tampa police issued a statement saying Reeves had retired back in 1993 as a captain. "He was instrumental in establishing the department's first Tactical Response Team," the statement explained. "We are not aware of any contact with the department since his departure more than 20 years ago." Nocco said his detectives considered if this could be a 'stand your ground' case but decided the criteria did not apply. "It's absolutely crazy it would rise to this level over somebody just texting in a movie theater," he offered. "I can't believe people would bring a gun to a movie," added Cummings, a Marine who served in Vietnam. "I can't believe they would argue and fight and shoot one another over popcorn or even a cell phone."

I have 100% of those mentioned in my personal library, thanks.

Distilling is an option. Unless the impurities like a chemical spill agent have a boiling point less than 212F, then this is not a good option.

Collecting older firearms with condition and finish issues

If you are going to be last owner of these items, do with them what you wish that makes you happy! However, if you will someday bring these items to the market, you will have to determine which market you are going to sell to. If the market is for real collectors, then do not refinish them whatsoever. If the market is for the amateur gun collector, then definitely put makeup on it and move it. Just my 2 cents. -
I use Mobil1 myself.

The book really goes into a lot of detail, there was just tid bit of hollywood in the movie.

Lessons Learned West Virgina Chemcial Spill Jan 2014
runco replied to runco's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I am not a prepper (yet), but I do know the value in being prepared. I still have yet had to cry for 22LR ammo, or any ammo for that matter, I was prepared. I thought at one time of buying one of those bladder bags for the bathtub, but now after this incident that would not work for that type of situation! So I may over time try to have 30 days of drinkable water on hand, but I understand that some plastic containers like the gallon jugs don't keep for a long time without seepage. Storage for 30 days of water is a challenge. Food I am not so worried about. I have stored already in a 98.6 environment about 180 days of stored energy if not a little more. :pleased: -
The book says he had a Mk12 and a Sig P226. He was a Seal before being trained as a team medic.

This is a good example and one that I need to take heed to and prepare for. What are the lessons learned from this sudden caught by surprise chemical spill that has poisoned the water supply to a major metropolitan area, and there is no more drinkable water on the shelves? http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/10/west-virginia-chemical-spill-gov-declares-emergency/

Not trying to draw any comparison, other than a military operation movie that I did not see. Just in the mood for military movies right now after watching Lone Survivor this weekend. Yea, I may sneak off next weekend and see this movie again. Maybe the 3pm showing, and if I am lucky, maybe 2x if I do a little movie hopping.

Lessons learned from West Virginia this week, you must have lots of water or the ability to have/process drinkable water!

After watching the Lone Survivor, I am all fired up, and if you ain't burning as well, your woods wet! Anyway, I was just poking around on Amazon, and noticed that the DVD release of Captain Phillips is set for Jan. 21, 2014. I did not see the movie when it came out, do you recommend it? http://www.amazon.com/Captain-Phillips-UltraViolet-Digital-Copy/dp/B008JFUNKU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389582428&sr=8-1&keywords=captain+phillips+dvd

On this date in history........... In 1920, the League of Nations was established as the Treaty of Versailles (vehr-SY') went into effect. In 1776, Thomas Paine anonymously published his influential pamphlet, "Common Sense," which argued for American independence from British rule.
