My kids are on Fall break, and I took off 3 days this week from work, so my two older boys (age 10 and 9) and I were suppose to have gone squirrel hunting and target practice yesterday (Thursday) on a my uncle's farm up in Sevier Co. My father was under the weather, so I scrubbed the idea. The kids were disappointed. Then an idea popped in my head, heck, just take the boys and some guns down to the local indoor shooting range. I shoot there often, never seen any kids, and honestly never considered taking my own there. Its dirty, poor lighting, and sometimes busy. Its only $5. When we got there, no one was on the range. :pleased: After the boys were given a quick dos and donts on the range, and after they stopped playing with the target switch on the panel , we started off shooting an Anschutz 1450 (youth 22LR) with a 5 shot mag and with a hunting scope. I made a competition between the three of us. That was a blast. Next up, they wanted to shoot some handguns, I brought a Glock 17, Sig P228 and Glock 20. I hadn't shot the 20 in sometime, and I wanted to try some reloads that I worked up. No the boys did not even try. In fact, after shooting the 22LR rifle for 30 min, they were gun shy to try the 17 and 228, so I ended up shooting those, but heck, it was fun anyway. I wished I had brought some 22LR pistols. Then we moved on to the Colt M4. Dang it, my Eotech batteries were dead, and I had no extras with me. We shot a partial mag only, that was fun. Then I had one more gun to shoot, it was 410 O/U that my oldest son had been given, so we shot that a couple of times, and this gun sure does kick harder than I expected for a 410. So much so, my son complained in a good way, and the stories of how his gun kicked like a mule, should say kick like a goat since it was 410, were born, and I think he told 5 people later that day. After we ran through the guns, we went back to the Anschutz and finished out another box of 50 rounds. After we were done, I asked the boys if they had fun, and got the group "yes". What really made my day, several hours after our trip, my oldest son asked what we were doing tomorrow, and I said I don't know why, fishing, hiking, or something, he said because I want to go back shooting, and Dad can you bring a 22LR pistol this time? :woohoo: So unless the wife has a plan, I am taking the boys back to the same indoor range, and we are going to shoot 22LR pistols, and I am bringing another set of 22LR rifles, with open sights! Just like that Trace Adkins song, "She Thinks We Are Fishing", my boys think we went shooting yesterday, what really happened, the boys made great memories by spending a day with Dad, Guns, Bullets, Smoke, and little lead, what a unforgettable memory was created in their noggins! Men spend time with your kids!!!!

Get one of the those hotel room safes, and just bolt it to the dresser top, or in a drawer. These type of safes will stop a smash and grab, but will not stop the competent theif with time and a crowbar. I also recommend, if installed in a drawer, use a cable in the rear and attach it to the entire dresser on the backside. These type safes offer no fire protection whatsoever, but are very convenient to use though. Here is an example of what I am suggesting:

If you want to read about what a fine man Gaston is, I recommend reading this: BTW fine is very sarcastic.

My statement is not about science, but rather my opinion: Longer barrels do not effectively impact shot pattern, but helps with the hand, eye, anticipation, and lead with the brain. The longer the barrel, the more it helps my brain process the visual information. At the end of the day, shooting in sporting clays and alike, sights become useless. I seldom if ever use sights anymore when shooting clays.

Congrats! TGO sure is a time cruncher for me, and an addiction.

When I did my research on coatings, I thought I read that duracoat takes 30 days to be 100% cured, but is dry to touch in hours. Is this true? I too did a coating job about 2 years ago, it was a blast. Need to do another one!

I am 110% sure this is it. There are other small things that I have misplaced too.

I have been to the one in Greenville, SC 4-5 times now since they opened in April (my job takes to me Greenville quite frequently), and though it is a very nice store, it too is considered a satellite store. When I compare it to the size say of Bass Pro in Sevierville, I say its larger. However, if I compare it to one of the Cabelas up North, say the only other Cabelas I have been to like the Dundee store in Michigan, its 1/2 the size. For the folks in Knoxville, its only slightly more than a 2 hour drive from downtown Knoxville to Cabelas, and a store front PSA is directly across the street from Cabelas.

This maybe is my 2nd post ever in the Knives and Bladed Tools section. Is there anyone else like me out there? I carried a small Case peanut knife for close to 15-20 years, then I lost it. Then I bought another one off ebay, really nice, similar in size and color, carried it about a year, and lost it too. Bought another one, whew still have that one, but I also starting carrying a tactical knife about 2 years ago. A CRKT type knife. Anyway was fishing with my small boys a couple of weeks ago, remember using it then, and later that night I realized I didn't have it. I figured I left in the tackle box, no big deal. Well, I recently checked the tackle box, and then my whole truck, no tactical knife anywhere. I went 15-20 years without losing one knife, and the past 2 years I have lost 3. Does this happen to you?

I bought a A2 5-6 years ago with no crush washer, and the bird cage was just wrong in its orientation. I believe I had a slight challenge, and that I purchased 2 or 3 crushed washers before finding the right one. I was not an expert, and I am one that sometimes doesn't like to ask questions. I finally found one from a internet site that had many different ones in stock. They are cheap, but shipping was high.

I work in a close office with about ~10 people which often as we work we talk about certain subjects from golf, sports, kids, spouses, and some of the others talk about alcohol escapades from years gone by to the present, etc. Yesterday, a topic of SHTF came up, which was odd, because we as a group have never really talked about it before. It all started when a couple of folks in the office mentioned they have to travel out of the country later this month for work, and Ebola fears was a concern (being trapped in an airplane). I jokingly said they should bring along some gas masks. From there the discussions really began. A couple of women asked if I really had some gas masks after someone said that Runco would have many gas masks. I said sure I do, one for each adult and kid in my house, and there are six of us. Then the why, why, why, etc. started. I started laying the groundwork as to why (I really don't have any gas masks but I could not resist the moment) and I may have embellished some of the whys as told my stories since I could tell they were at awe with my story. One guy knew that I am into guns, and he added that Runco has enough weapons to arm a small army. Another guy chimed in as in a BS moment, yea Runco has enough ammo to feed a small country in the Mid East (again a little BS to whip up the story), and Runco has enough food and water to stock Food City, etc, then one of the women was just fabergasted and more why, why, why. The BS was being poured on, but her and now some of the others were losing their BS meter, and were now being serious. Anyway as the stories unfolded I referred to my home as a compound and that me and my family could withstand a 30 to 60 day SHTF event complete with food, water, heat, plastic sheeting if need be, and of course defending the compound from looters and desperate starving people with the hoards and hoards of mean ole black guns. A couple of the ladies said what on earth could happen in this local rural area just South of Knoxville that could ever cause me and my family to go into lock down, or even consider the thought. At this point, I was quickly becoming the weird extremist in the room, and it appeared the BS was no where in sight. The women and now some of the men had no clue, no thought, and were of the opinion that I was simply a nut because I was coming across as a very serious person. Anyway I proceeded to inform them in a more serious manner that there were many "real" events that could happen in or outside Knoxville. I referred to Katrina and the events that unfolded about that, but of course the group said that could not happen here. I mentioned what if a 7.0 or a 8.0+ new Madrid earthquake were to happen today, even though we are ~500 miles to the East of the epicenter, history tells us that the new Madrid earthquake of 1811 and 1812 caused the church bells to ring in Massachusetts. Surely if that were to happen that far away, we in East TN would feel something slightly more and likely causing severe damage. I suggested that the earthquake of that magnitude could severely damage local infrastructure roads, bridges, homes, Dams, but that was not my biggest fear, but what about damage to Watts Bar Nuclear Plant which is just 30 miles from our office and my house. Just like the Fukushima incident in Japan. Most of the office didn't even know there was a Nuc. plant in East TN, and when I mentioned there were two, they were blown away. Then other crazy SHTF ideas were discussed like nuclear bombing of Oak Ridge, Magnetic Impulse bombing in the atmosphere, Fontana Dam breaking, Ebola outbreaks, major Tornadic outbreaks, etc. Bottom line, though over 50% of discussion was BS and made with fun intentions, in the end I had everyone thinking that I was a extreme prepper (which I am not). Later I realized that I actually had some folks (mainly the women) scared with my BS, so I had to go into damage control mode (no pun intended considering the topic). These people were scared meaning they were scared of me as an extremist, but one did say they had never ever considered the SHTF events like I explained, and was going to talk to their husband. Now this is the funniest or weirdest part, several hours later and many conversations later, the radio was playing in the background, I think 100.3 the Q or something, a major country music station out of Knoxville, a government public announcement came across. It was an announcement about being prepared for a major earthquake in TN. Can you believe that, and that was no BS. For 5 min, you could have heard a pin needle drop! BTW I had never heard this before, 1st time! As I write this story at 4am in the morning with obvious insomnia occurring, have you ever experienced talking survival preparation with others, and did they have that wide eye deer in the headlight look and then did you realize they think you are weird or a nut?

Impressed, but I hate to be Johnny Raincloud. How does one have the resources to do that. He must not have a wife, kids mortgage, gun hobby and a normal job.

I bought clear Christmas rope light for mine after Christmas at 80% discount, and I installed one of those short kitchen style fluorescent lights in mine as well. And at the moment, I am trying to install one of these too (its a baseball bat rack, which can be found at amazon or academy around $12). My home page has been foxnews for at least 6-8 years now! They report, and I decide..............It baffles me that anyone who bats right would use MSN, Yahoo, CNN or any of the left media sources. :2cents: http://www.foxnews.com/
