1. Grayfox54, thanks for the input, really. No I am not talked out of it. My mind was actually made up before posting. The intent of the thread was multifaceted: 1.) To solicit any bad experience from local folk with this plane jane model, 2.) I did want to pass along the deal that I found in hopes someone would find a better deal, and 3.) To instigate a little because I know there are some Colt lovers out there too, along with Colt bashers :stir: . I do hang out on the 1911 forums as a lurker, because I am intrigued by the 1911, so I have done lots of homework. Plus, I am a mix of a nutty gun collector and a shooter. Just to share, looking back over my gun collecting lifetime, my interests move, I have gone through phases of guns from my childhood (22LR, 410, etc.), hand me downs from family, high end 22LR bolt action rifles, old sxs shotguns, sporting clays o/u, lever actions, old country boy 22LR bolt actions, Defense Shotguns, Sig P series pistols, Glock Gen2 series pistols, and just finished up with a very strong AR craze, add in a strong mix of wanting to leave a legacy collection to my 4 sons, then you get the picture of what I have. Reflecting, what I realized is missing is that I don't have any 1911. With my attention turning to something new, yes Colt would be on the list, it was either going to be #1 or #2, and for the past 1-2 years off/on research, and the Dan Wesson 1911 was going to be first, then followed by a Colt or two, then venture into the Springfields, or maybe a very high end brand too. So out of nowhere about 2 weeks ago, I changed my mind from the Dan Wesson, and decided to go with the basic plain Colt first, to set the minimum benchmark to compare to for all future purchase too, basically to cut my teeth on. I have already handled this Colt multiple times, and again did it yesterday while at Buds in Sevierville and SMKW, it sure is plain, and there are sure far prettier ones, but this is going to be it, first. Both places had their prices for the same gun about $200 more than what I can buy in my OP before the rebate. So I am not talked out of it, I just wanted conversation to affirm or create a little doubt, and if someone knows a better price ( ). My judgment, no shroud of doubt has been created, but much affirmation to the Colt. So if this thread has a evolution, I do need input on the best deal. BTW, my obsession of guns, is met with a stronger zeal of going to the ends of the earth to find the lowest lowest price, its an obsessive, mind numbing, centric, weird DNA code passed on to me by my father. :screwy: I have this craziness with everything, and it is getting worse I think!
2. I have exactly the same outlook.  However, other than a period of 3 years of my life where I made a living of selling guns when I owned a small gun shop in Sevierville, I have always held on to my personal guns.
3. I don't think giving information like that is illegal, maybe unethical, but not illegal.  Some companies will throw a dog a bone, even if its non-factual bone, just to sooth the waters, and hopefully the person will just move on.  At the end of the day, the business must make the best business decision for it to run its business.  Even if it means losing a sale on a whopper.
4. Qualify this statement, I would like to know more.  Tell me about the side by side comparison, and ultimately what made the Metro Arms better.  Was it the barrel, trigger, sights, what?
5. Thank you.  Is there a "plastic" mainspring housing in this specific Colt?  Tell me more!
6. Because one can.
7. I have a strong feeling you are right.  I have the makings of this stereotype.
8. My inlaws built a 2nd house in their subdivision to flip, but ended up renting.  Did a rent to own deal with someone, who was major smokers.  In the end, after 12 mos of living in the house, the people had to vacate.  What a terrible mess/smell.  In the end, all of the carpet had to be replaced, all of the walls had to be repainted, and even the ceilings.  All of the cabinets, doors, and anything else that was not painted, or replaced, had to be wiped down.  Even considered replacing all of the hvac duct work.  Finally, in the end, after all of the hard work, I say 98% of the smell was gone.  I on the other hand who is not a smoker, still could smell something.    Funny thing is, the next buyer which the deal went through, was a smoker.
9. Folks thanks for the input.  Some have said exactly what I was thinking, if I am going wade in on the 1911, I must have a Colt in the stable.  That is a contributing factor, but not the only factor.  So I never sell/trade any of my guns that I buy even if disappointed, but never owning a 1911, and knowing a 1911 is a key staple of any serious gun collector/user of any kind.  If I do fall in love with the 1911 platform, which likely I will, then there is a whole new chapter in my gun quest to have a decent and respectful gun collection.      BTW, my sons who are 10, 9, 5 and 2, will someday thank ole Dad!  Really!
10. Move on, no more restaurant rage.   This webpage hasn't been updated in a awhile, but it may help restaurant raged people a bit: http://restaurantrage.blogspot.com/
11. I assume the "...." is what you didn't want to share of the early gifts your wife gave you for your birthday!
12. That's "me"! patience, strong negotiations, and walking away are apart too.
13. Took the wife out to dinner this evening, and saw this movie. I haven't seen a comedy movie in some time, and really wasn't a fan of the first movie. HOWEVER, this movie is great. Highly recommend if you enjoy unexpectedly corny stuff. All I have to say is the catheter moment at the front of the movie and the old woman at the nursing home! I haven't laughed this hard in a very long time! There are some bad scenes of just corny laughter.    If you seen it, then you will know about this:
14. If I were selling, this would be my recipe, determine the targeted market which is key.  What I mean, who are you trying to sell too.  For an example a pistol at at flea market will fetch 1.5x to 2.0x more than what can be bought new.   Usually the buyer is not up to speed on gun prices, and has no clue.  Armslist and TGO, all buyers know their stuff, and will not pay premium.  GB has both gun experts and novices, but comes with the hassle of having to package the gun, and hassle of the buyer not agreeing to how you described a 95% gun, etc.  Gun Show, outside the gun show I mean, as you walk up, those are vultures, and those yahoos are  trying to prey on the misinformed, and flip it quick.  Inside the gun show, the table people are experts, most of the people in the aisles are experts, but not all.  Experts know their prices, and will not pay anywhere close to retail.  Then there are pawn shops and gun shops.   The pawn shops are worse than the vultures in the parking lot at the gun show, while the gun shops are straight up, and usually pay about 1/2 of what a gun is worth.  Local gun auctions, if you can find one, will bring the most for your gun, if there is a lot of the public there.  If not, ouch is all I can say.  Then if you are of the mind that you don't care of who you will or can sell too, then the price can bring a substantial premium.  However, this is very risky, and can lead to extended stay in concrete hotel rooms.   Now me as a buyer, I never buy used that can be bought new with a price within 25%-33% of the new price.  Why would I ever pay a price for a used item, with the risk of a warranty problem, risk of it being stolen, or risk of it being junk, with a price so close to what I can buy new for.  For used items that can no longer be bought new, those are the hard ones, and depends upon patience and availability.  Those unicorns can fetch the $$$ to the right buyer.   New guns, I find it an art to find the lowest OTD price anywhere.  Its a sickness I have!  I search, search, and search some more, and I have no loyalty to anyone!  Trades are just based upon your motivation to get rid of something or the motivation to trade for what you really want.
15. In all seriousness, for the ones that say better options out there, please qualify that please.   I am trying to avoid the pigeon hole of Ford vs. Chevy decision, with real qualification.  Serrations, Sights and Finish, have no meaning to me for this specific purchase, but triggers, barrel and other options might.
16. I normally don't fall prey to rebates as a draw card, but I do want a 1911 Pistol, and I am fond of Colts. I am sure there are many guns of greater values, better Colts for a few dollars more, and I thought I wanted a Dan Wesson Valor, but I think for my 1st 1911, to test the waters I may choose the Colt 1991O. The $100 rebate is tempting, and I have a couple of deals to choose from. I want the blue version by the way. Whats your experience, opinion, or your neighbors opinion? 17. To me the wave of the court system is to protect personal defense.  Still not clear the boundaries of where this goes, but the ease to conceal carry is becoming easier, still not clear on where.  The threats of restrictions on certain guns I think is still there, and I see no court rulings post Sandy Hook to support or uphold.  I think some Federal judicial rulings would be a real litmus test to confirm if our 2A rights are improving or being chipped away.
18. I once asked a similar question about where does the lead go:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/46512-where-does-all-that-lead-go/?hl=%2Bsporting+%2Bclays+%2Bcourse
19. Thanks, I am going to purchase this week, probably your source.
20. I don't do the lines or anything, that is one of the activities the wife does.  I just give her the list and of course the funds, then let her have it!  It works for me.
21. I wish my 5+ Russian SKS would show up from where my shop was burglarized in 1995.  None so far.  Also, any gun I took in on trade or bought out right, I always got a bill of sale when I was in the business.   Good to hear about yours.
22. Take the high road! Learn patience! Keep the testosterone contained! Probably a large truck with trailer, difficult to maneuver, was wanting food, etc. Unless a life threatening event, chalk it up to a inconvenience like bumper to bumper traffic. Geeze we have road rage, now we have restaurant rage, whats next bathroom rage because some old dude next to me peed and it splattered on my leg. Schwack'em I say. 23. May not be the prettiest, but what about sand, or sand bags? Just googled it, and saw this: Here is some good info: http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-611279.html
24. Good timing, here is Walmart's ad (it may be my local store in Madisonville): http://www.walmart.com/store/366/weekly-ads?veh=eml&adid=1500000000000039419090&flyer_run_id=39798&flyer_type_name=ad&sent_time=1415773740000&e_id=db2ce46051e258ecf4546c14ee86b7b2&campaign_id=mbb-1970902_00000
25. For others sake, I hope you are right.  I for one don't sell, don't trade, and I don't ever see me buying a 80% lower.  Thanks.
