Ouch! I have always been fortunate to fix cars on my own. I learned as a teenager on how to tinker on something in my garage or driveway. Have all of the tools that anyone would need and lots of specialized tools too. I know not everyone has the tools, facilities, and patience, but I would recommend that you learn. Youtube can be your friend as well. I once bought an older Toyota Avalon on the cheap as a 3rd car. Drove it about a week, was in a business or something, came out to find a small lake under my car. Yep, it was my coolant. Was able to get it home. Ended up replacing the water pump, timing belt (300K miles, original), idler pulleys, and other items. Straight time, it took over 12 hours at my own speed spread over a week. Used Toyota OEM parts from some of those web sites that specialize in OEM parts. My cost was less than $100. Drove the car for another 3 years, put another 100K on it, not one issue. Sold the car, made money. Similar experience with a Honda CRX I once owned. Bought it with 200K miles, and experienced a burnt valve half way to 400K miles. Replaced valve, head gasket, and other while I'm in there parts, and my cost was still south of $100. From a lack of experience, had to get back in the engine the next week. Apparently, doing a valve job, caused my piston rings to give out. Replaced the rings, that was fun, didn't have to pull the motor, thankfully, the oil pan could be dropped. My car ran for another 200K miles w/o a hitch. Sold it to a teen, who wanted to make it into one of those Fast-n-furious type cars. My only advice, if your going to fool around with older high mileage cars, learn to mechanic on your own, or be flushed with emergency cash or great credit, and to have at least 2 cars if your single, or 3 cars if you are married. For the working man and 1 car, sometimes you have no choice but to bend over and take it, to get your car back up and running fast. Businesses know this.

It ceases to amaze me what will come out next in the gun world. There are many of products out there for a dude with a gun.

Very similar experience with my grandmother about 13 years ago. Starting off kinda of funny with dementia, she pulled a gun on the gas man and shot at him. She thought he was breaking in. Glad she missed him and the propane tank. She lived on a busy highway, but swore the same people were just passing by her house just to keep her up, she called 911 many times. Fast forward a few months, on her birthday, she was found wandering the same highway at 3am about a 1/2 mile from her home. That was the last time she was at her home. Had a Geriatric mental health week long evaluation, then she was committed to a local nursing home. She was finally diagnosed with dementia and alzheimers. She lived another 2 1/2 years. The only comfort, the alzheimers rob her of her sense of time. When visiting my grandmother in the nursing home, you could ask her how long she had been there in the "hospital" and she would say 1-2 days, where in fact she had been there for months or for over a year. Symptoms of Dementia and Alzheimers are terrible diseases. I deeply feel for you, especially at the holiday seasons.

I missed the girlfriend, unless she was wearing gloves. :-\

My daily internet ritual is to stream YouTube videos (music, Hickok45, Gunsmoke, etc.) while I surf & troll gun message boards and related sites. This past week, I have been inundated with Larry Potter's newest commerical, have you seen? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-QogpCGR2c

My church is buying all local LEO in my town fruit baskets for Christmas. It may not be much, but we are thinking about them this Christmas. First time we have done this. Many LEO are getting a bad rap based upon recent events, we want them to know we supporting them this season. I know of other churches in Knoxville and surrounding areas doing the same this year, it appears to be coordinated, but may be just coincidental. If your local churches or civic groups are not supporting, you might want to consider supporting one or more as well, or drop hints to your church, civic groups, etc. Or simply tell a LEO thank you! BTW, thank you LEO for what you do every day! Merry Christmas!

What is normalized pricing for 22? Pre-Sandy? Pre-2012 Election? Pre-2008 Election? Pre-2000s? Pre-1990s? Pre-1980s? Pre-1970s? See where I am going? I have a lot of 22, maybe a life time supply, all of which were bought in the past 20-30 years. Some "bricks" have a Kmart price tag at $5.97 a brick of 500. So does that mean that any 22 ammo north of $0.0119 a round is not normal for "me"? I don't think so. If I was out of 22 ammo, and I needed the ammo, like really really needed it, then I would be faced of having no ammo or paying $10 for a box of 100. Just like gas back in 2008, I had a choice, of sitting at home or paying $3.75 a gallon of gas (actually $4.25 for diesel). Many people grumbled when gas touched/kissed $3.75 a gallon in 2008, but they paid it, and now it may fall below $2, but rest assured gas will return to $3+ gallon some day. Will we buy it then? Yep. So my only comment, if you need 22 ammo now, it is all based upon the seriousness of your wanter. That is all. As for me, just like Rhett Butler said in his final line of Gone with the Wind,"...Frankly......" you fill in the blank.

I understand the skepticism, I also understand throwing the dog off the hunt too ;) . I haven't been hurt by any of this 22 fiasco, but I also understand the retail market pricing may never return to the old. So the new retail price maybe the norm.

Up in Sevier Co, my father says he has no problem getting any 22. Several stores to choose from, and always in Stock. Buds, Bass Pro, J Floyds, and of course the many little man entrepreneurs have them too (flea market). He is particular for a certain type of CCI, and says Buds has plenty at a reasonable price. Don't know about the rest of the state.

Know the theory, was trained in it, but some manufacturing environments just require zero defects, regardless of cost and quantity. Ever heard of Poky Yoke? If designed properly virtually impossible to create or spill defective product.

Its all about the poundage per square foot. The link below is discussing aquariums, it should give you enough data for a gun safe. Whatever you do, make sure to bolt the safe to the floor. http://badmanstropicalfish.com/articles/article28.html

I work in manufacturing there are ways to 100% prevent this. The use of photo detection would be great here. Taking a photo and comparing against a control subject, would help tremendously. Not too expensive.

Found this on another forum. Thought I would share. Very interesting read: http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/statistics/CommerceReport/firearms_commerce_annual_statistical_report_2014.pdf

Good report. How do you like that European mag release? Also, assume you used modern mags, any issues with those? Does the safety work just like the 92FS? That is what I currently have.
