  1. 12/12/2015 Update   At least three confirmed sightings, and DNA confirms a female.  Well, I don't know about you, but there must be male close by.    http://newschannel9.com/sports/outdoors/video-more-tennessee-cougar-encounters-dna-tests-confirm-a-female   Video: More Tennessee cougar encounters, DNA tests confirm a female By Richard Simms Friday, December 11th 2015   Tennessee wildlife officials have now confirmed at least three cougar sightings in the state. One of the three encounters has been confirmed to have been a female, an indication that it is at least possible that a breeding population could establish itself in Tennessee. The increased sightings lead Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials to get more serious about efforts to review reports, and respond to the many public inquiries, forming a special task force called the "TWRA Cougar Response Committee." It was early October when TWRA biologists first confirmed that a trail cam photo of a cougar was indeed taken in Obion County, in the far Northwest corner of the state. That was the first confirmation of a cougar, also called mountain lions or pumas, in Tennessee in more than 100 years. Wildlife biologists were not overly surprised, and suspected it was a young male cougar. Young males of all large predators must often range hundreds of miles in search of their own territories as they mature. Another confirmed sighting came just before Thanksgiving, when another hunter discovered remarkably clear video (below) on his trail camera in Humphreys County, bordering Kentucky Lake west of Nashville. About JW Player 6.12.4956 (Ads edition)                  00:00                                  00:00  00:00                                                                                                  In another sighting, a hunter came to TWRA to report that he had shot a cougar with a bow & arrow in Carroll County while hunting, according to TWRA Region II spokesperson Doug Markham.   The hunter said he did not believe that he mortally wounded the animal, but he did produce a bloody arrow. TWRA officials sent the blood samples off for DNA testing. The results recently came in, revealing that it was cougar blood... and what's more, it was a female.   Joy Sweaney is the statewide TWRA Wildlife Biologist, specializing in bears and other large carnivores. Interviewed in October following the first cougar sighting, Sweaney said, "I don't think [this] is a big deal. They have a very large range, so it's possible he's just roaming looking for his [new] territory. Until we can confirm females [with cubs], we can't consider it as an 'established' population."   The confirmation of a female did not include cubs, but it is more significant than a young male cougar. DNA testing can also determine a general "point of origin." Markham said the tests on the bloody arrow indicated it was a cougar that originated all the way from South Dakota, more than 1,200 miles away. Such feats are not unheard of. In 2011 the respected magazine "Scientific American" reported on a cougar, also originating from South Dakota, that was killed in Connecticut.   Those amazing long treks don't necessarily mean the cougars made their trips in one fell swoop. They actually could have been working their way East over several years. While it is still possible that all three confirmed Tennessee sightings were of the same cougar, the mounting evidence, along with a number of other unconfirmed sightings, indicate the big cats are moving in our direction.   Again, not a surprise for some wildlife managers.   Alan Peterson, the TWRA Regional manager in West Tennessee said in October, "They're coming. It's just a question of how long it's going to take. It could be decades before there is an established population."   TWRA officials say cougars are classified as a protected species which cannot be hunted or killed until a hunting or trapping season is established by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission, the governing body of the TWRA.   Markham said the bowhunter who shot the cougar reported the incident himself to TWRA officials. The specific circumstances haven't been revealed. While he believes charges in this case are unlikely, Markham said, "The case has been turned over to a District Attorney's office to determine whether or not he'll be prosecuted."   Is the presence of cougars in Tennessee a good thing or a bad thing?   Most professional wildlife managers consider it a good thing, saying that any habitat that includes apex predators indicates we're doing a good job protecting and managing our environment, and wildlife resources.   "We're always happy to have wildlife in our state that was here historically, but we understand there could be concerns about it," said Markham. Indeed, people who have been attacked (in some cases killed), by cougars might obviously be concerned.   According to National Geographic, there is an average of four attacks and one human fatality each year in the U.S. and Canada. Markham said that cougars are extremely shy and very unlikely to be aggressive toward humans. There have been numerous cougar sightings in Missouri in recent years. That state created a "Mountain Lion Response Team" in 1996. They also created a special web page to inform the public about the big cats. That page offers very specific information on cougar behavior, and how people should respond if they see one. Markham said TWRA will likely create a similar web page soon.
  2. Looks like your Sig is a non rail Sig.  Those are my favorite.
  3. You handled it better than me.  When I make a decision, its tough to compromise.  I think I would have shown my rear end, or at least the leading edge of my crack!
  4. I wonder what happened to the gun.  If it sold during our 1 hour in line, then the counter help should have said something.  I think there is more to the story of the missing gun.
  5. I too have been given this some more thought. If O & democrat party is looking for a checkmark as to doing something, he/they will likely get that. As far as the teeth of the matter, I 100% agree, how will it be enforced. This EO I liken to this Christmas symbol below: [URL=http://s963.photobucket.com/user/runco0318/media/ONOTEETH_zps42z0kyfs.jpg.html][/URL]
  6. Now Fox News is reporting it:   http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/12/11/obama-administration-reportedly-readies-executive-order-expanding-background-checks.html?intcmp=hpbt3   Obama administration reportedly readies proposed expansion of background checks Published December 11, 2015FoxNews.com Advisers to President Barack Obama reportedly are finalizing a proposal to expand background checks on would-be gun buyers without congressional approval. The Associated Press reported that White House adviser Valerie Jarrett told a Wednesday night vigil for victims of the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. that Obama had asked his team to complete a proposal and submit it for his review "in short order."   After October's mass shooting in Roseburg, Ore., Obama said his team was looking for ways to tighten gun laws without a vote in Congress. White House officials have said they're exploring closing the so-called "gun show loophole" that allows people to buy weapons at gun shows and online without a background check.   Obama has repeatedly called for tighter gun control measures in the wake of mass shooting during his administration. In the wake of last week's terror attack that killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif. Obama called on Congress to approve legislation to keep people on the no-fly list from buying guns. Gun rights advocates oppose the proposal because they say it violates the rights of people who have not been convicted of a crime.   On Thursday, the House rejected an attempt by Democrats to force a vote on the issue. A Senate version of legislation preventing suspected terrorists from being allowed to buy firearms from licensed gun dealers was voted down last week.   Also Thursday, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy proposed Thursday to use an executive order to ban gun sales to those on federal no-fly watch lists. However, despite repeatedly calls for gun control by Democrats at the state and federal level, gun sales have repeatedly spiked after mass shooting incidents.  The FBI said last week that it processed a record number of firearms background checks on Black Friday, the busy shopping time the day after Thanksgiving. The agency processed 185,345 background checks. roughly two per second.   The previous record for the most background checks in a single day was Dec. 21, 2012, about a week after the Newtown shooting, in which 20 children and six adults were shot to death. The week following the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary saw the processing of 953,613 gun background checks.
  7. We are no longer a nation of laws.  Many examples.    My take, the sheeple, not the gun eccentrics here, will abide by the EO of the land.
  8. How long would a constitutional challenge take, days, weeks, months.............years?    My crystal ball or tin foil hat says on the 3 year anniversary of Sandy Hook, Dec. 14th, which is this Monday, he will roll out a EO.  He will use the San Bernardino attack as evidence that if laws were in place this would not have happened.  Which is a joke.  Reminder its 406 days to go, and lot of BS can be made in the next 406 days.
  9. Another source through the NRA website:   http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/262796-white-house-finalizing-executive-action-on-guns   The White House is finalizing a new executive action that would expand background checks on gun purchases, according to one of President Obama’s top aides.    Senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said Wednesday the president has asked his team to send him a completed plan “in short order,” according to The Associated Press. She spoke at a vigil for victims of the 2012 shooting in Newtown, Conn., that left 28 dead.    White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Thursday refused to elaborate on the timeline to issue the unilateral proposals.    “At this point, I still don’t have an update on the progress the administration is making on scrubbing the rules," Earnest told reporters at his daily press briefing.     Still, Jarrett’s comments are an indication that Obama could soon roll out a proposal that would set up a major battle with Republicans in Congress and gun rights groups.    Stymied by Congress on new gun control measures, Obama has been weighing a number of executive actions on guns following an October mass shooting at an Oregon community college.    The effort took on even more urgency after last month’s attack in San Bernardino, Calif., which left 14 dead.    Obama has been holding meetings with gun control advocates to gauge their support and solicit ideas. He met last Friday with former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who survived a gunshot to the head during a 2011 mass shooting in Tucson.    A proposal Obama is reportedly considering would classify more sellers as high-volume dealers, which would close a legal loophole that allows many sales conducted online or at gun shows to skirt existing background check provisions.   But such a measure would surely prompt a legal challenge from gun rights groups, which say Obama lacks the authority to tighten background checks alone. The National Rifle Association and GOP lawmakers have blasted the idea as executive overreach.
  10. Lots of chatter today that Obama will sign a EO in the coming days to close the "gun show loophole".  My immediate read, no more selling or trading between Bob and Joe.  No more Armslist without a FFL, no more TGO classifieds without a FFL.    No major news sources, but nonetheless several, and do they site the AP:    http://www.westernjournalism.com/breaking-the-white-house-just-let-slip-obamas-massive-new-executive-order-plan/   http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/12/daniel-zimmerman/breaking-obama-to-mandate-universal-background-checks/   http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/12/10/white-house-finalizing-plan-to-take-major-gun-control-action-using-executive-authority-valerie-jarrett-says/
  11. This has worked for me on more than one occasion, "I bought just in case honey".   She swears that I have something for just in case for about everything.
  12. I love Sigs, have more than one or two or three.  However, if one can afford to have a $800+ pistol, I don't think I would sweat a sight pusher price tag.  Sig is not the only one who makes a sight pusher anyway.  Between ebay, Brownells, and Midway, there are plenty quality sight pushers.  Gun shops are okay, but for me I tweak my sights from time to time, no time to go to the other guy, or allow them to nickel and dime you.  I think I caught deal on my sight pusher, maybe less than $50 on ebay.   Just make sure its the sight, and not you.
  13. It pays not to be complacent.
  14. I would not have believed it.  I want to try.

    Pearl Harbor

Good to see a little more traction this year than last year.    I admit prior to 9/11, I paid attention to Pearl Harbor day, but not like I do post 9/11.  When I got married back in 2002, I made sure we went to Hawaii and the first full day, we were at the memorial.  It is so surreal is all that I can say.  When we celebrated our 10 year reunion, we went back to Hawaii with the kids, and I paid dearly for a singe day to Oahu since Oahu was not really own our destination, but I wanted my kids to see Pear Harbor.  Still so surreal.    This is the introduction video that I saw in 2012:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK4_07cfVPs
  16. I honestly have no problem with the constant badgering for money.  Its not like they make something and sell it.  Its not like they have the ability to tax people.  Their only source of income is from "us" either as a member, donations, selling us trinkets, or we will them something when we die.  They obvious have a ROI with the junk mail, or they would stop.  Remember guys, this is the strongest ally we have.  If we mature older gun lovers cut off funding or scale back the funds, who is going to take up the slack, the millennials?  Give me a break.    As for me, I will not upgrade past the Life status that I am.  However, I will continue to donate, but likely directly the NRA ILA funds as gifts.
  17. I dropped the leather 15+ years ago due to varying reasons, I have sported one of these ever since and not one time have I lost it, and it keeps from having to much plastic and other clutter to. For <$3 it has done well, and it will probably last me a lifetime.

  19. I have wrangled with this question as well.  My AR mags are settled.  I didn't realize how many PMAGS I ordered during the great panic of 2012/2013 until late into 2013.  I am embarrassed to announce, lets just say many many 50 caliber ammo cans I have are filled with many many PMAGS.  If you know how many fit still in the wrapper, then you can guess what I have.  Handgun mags, I have always tried to have at least 5 each, but I don't know if that is the threshold or the beginning of the journey.
  20. Where's yours?  Put some garland around the constitution!
  21. Marlin 1895 410 shotgun maybe?  I would recommend a single shot myself.
  22. To have a license, agree.  Who must have license?  Anyone who wants to hunt, except military personnel on leave with papers, and along with other exceptions.  Again, black and white to me.  If in doubt just call.
  23. You might want to read this:   https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/hunting-license-requirements   To me that is black and white period.
  24. Every time I go to Knoxville I wear Orange unless the app says wear white!  I will wear orange if I go to Tampa this Jan 1.
