  1. This may stray from what you are wanting, but I learned this trick 12+ years ago, and I have never looked back. I use a local credit union, and they will allow my to setup as many accounts as possible. Each time I receive my automatic deposit, my check is divided into these pre-distributions and the accounts are called exactly like these: 1.) $25 auto insurance 2.) $100 vacation 3.) $300 mortgage 4.) $100 auto loan 5.) $25 auto maintenance 6.) $50 fuel 7.) $50 electric/utilitlites/phone 8.) $40 Fun Money 9.) $50 Savings 10.) $20 Christmas 12.) $40 Tithes and offerings 11.) Balance of money into General Checking This works just like envelopes. Bascially the credit union does my general ledger. My budget on paper and these accounts match. I have all my bills auto pay and I try to stay away from credit cards. The fun money account is my favorite account. Works great! You will be surpised at how quickly you see where your money goes and how quickly you save money.
  2. Have you ever considering a Glock? Lol, sweet.
  3. I work in Purchasing and I am constantly on the guard for Sales and marketing strategies that play to my company's weakness and our buyers! I admit as well, Glock certainly appeared to hit a homerun in many many different ways in their marketing strategy. I morally do not agree with their Thursday outings at the club, but I admit that was brillant, and 10 years ago, I would have loved to have taken their training classes at the Symrna campus with the Thursday outings. I also loved how they targeted S&W in many ways and exploited their weaknesses. Paul Jannuzo and others had it all, high profile positions, likely a fun job and in the end, the old fashioned greed took over. Regarding other books, I know that others do not have the thrill and hype as Glock, I would just like to read about the histories of other gun companies and their inner workings.
  4. Did anyone else goto the Kerbela Temple gun show this past weekend. I cameby around 2:30pm, and there were no cars in the parking lot. I am sure glad I had other reasons to be in Knoxville. I drove 40 miles (80 miles round trip). I assume there is only one Kerbela Temple in Knoxville on Mimosa Ave. Accross from the Baptist Hospital? So what happened!
  5. Not sure this is the best to place to place this new topic, but I searched this site, and did not get any hits on the subject, so I thought I would throw it out there. I had to go out of town last week, and wanted something new and interesting to read, so I purchased this book after hearing about it. Though I am own 2 Glocks, I am not a Glock nut. After reading the book, don't know if I will ever be a Glock nut. I respect and understand what a great pistol the Glock is, but I just don't think I can become a Glock head. The book is actually very interesting and I highly recommend it to anyone. Since I am from the Knoxville area, there is a Knoxville connnection in the book. I vaughly remember reading about the situation in the newspaper 15+ years ago. After I read the book, it did clear up some mis-information I had about the origins of the Glock and how it become a pistol. I am sort of glad that the two Glocks I own were purchased 2nd hand. Having some strong moral values, I would hate to think my money help paid some lap dances in Atlanta. That is all I will say. What's your opinion of the book. Are there similiar books about other gun companies, S&W, Ruger, Sig, etc.
  6. Update, FACT about the food. $2 off addmission with 2 or more cans. My wife bagged up some cranberry sauce and some muchroom soup. When she wasn't looking, I added a few more items because I felt embarrased. Also, thank you Garufa for the $2 off, my friend, and about 5 others enjoyed the coupons. I arrived about 1:30pm, and the show was unusually crowded for this time of day. The line to get in was like what I used to remember before it opens, almost to the steps at the SE corner.
  7. Did I dream this or did I read this somewhere, if you bring a canned food item to the Gun Show in Knoxville this weekend you get $2 off entry fee? Can anyone confirm, and do we need coupons. I always print the $1 off coupon, but most of time I forget on the printer. Oh yea, last time at Chilhowee someone in front of me had a $2 off coupon from the internet. He told me the site, but I didn't have anything to write it down, so I don't where this coupon was.
  8. To add to my A-Z gun collection (I want a little bit of everything), I purchased a used Colt AR-15 A2 R6550 Government Model with Bayonet lug over a year ago, ~$900. I would say its 95%+. I like to collect guns, and I am knowledgible about most, can shoot the BS with almost all gun PHDs, but honestly when it comes to ARs, I am a little backwoods, definitely no AR grand wizard, and can barely hold an intelligent conversation on the subject. This is where I need some TGO member help. To help me to understand how desireable my rifle may be, I have suggested some topics that I would like for you TGO AR gurus to give your top notch opinions on. Using the standard 1-10 scale approach, 1 being terrible and 10 being the best, please rate the following topics: 1. ) Colt as the Manufacturor when compared to other AR companies. 2.) Colt R6550 Model when compared to other Colts 3.) Colt R6550 Model when compared to other non Colt AR models 4.) Colt R6550 Accuracy 5.) Colt R6550 Long Term Durability 6.) Colt R6550 Re-Sell 7.) What do you recommend if I decided to buy another AR or build one (I really don't want to open this pandora's box of building, if I apply my same obsessive gun addition to building AR, I will be in serious trouble. I already qualify for AA for gun owners, you know the 12 step process). I most like to collect above average or a very respectful top brand to have, shoot and mostly to talk about!!! 8.) If you don't want to time to give me opinion on all of the above, just give me an over-all rating based upon the rifle. Thanks in advance.
  9. Now that is funny!
  10. Thanks guys. I will be at the Ktown gun show this weekend. I will pick up some OEM or Megar P226 mags. I assume they are in the $25-$35 range per mag.

    Gas Prices

In 1984, I worked for minmum wage @ $3.35 hour. I remember gas spiking back then @ $1.24 gallon. It cost me 22 minutes of minimum wage labor for 1 gallon of gas, and my V8 Monte Carlo got 12 miles to the gallon, so that is 1.83 minutes of labor per mile driven. Today, minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, with gas @ $3.49 locally, I no longer work for minimum wage, but the group that does, has to work 28 minutes of labor for the same gallon of gas, +36% increase. Ouch! However, I will argue that the cost of travel today is cheaper than in 1984. There is not alot of late 70s or 80s V8 cars driven. Cars today are more like a 10+ year old Honda Accord or Toyota Camry which gets 32 miles per gallon. So to make a comparison to 1984 vs 2012, that is 0.875 minutes of minimum wage labor per mile driven, a whopping 52% drop. So I submit, that the cost per mile traveled today as measured in minutes per minimum wage of labor plus factoring in car technology improvements, is a whole lot less. We as a society have got caught up in the efficiency gains and spent our new disposable income foolishly kinda like our government has. So any negative deviation of gas prices hurt, however our pain really isn't different from other generations just 25-30 years ago. Bottom line, it really is our government's fault based upon its overspending or in other words uncontrolled borrowing. This borrowing without real money being injected from a 3rd party really drives down the value of the USD. Other than political hype from the mid east from time to time, the Supply & Demand principal is all that drives gas prices, and as long as the West cars become more fuel efficient, it will drive down global oil demand, however, due to our obsession of lower prices which drove jobs to China and India, and now those nations are expericing a middle class that wants to drive, so they are changing from walking and bicycling to driving and with those huge populations will drive up oil demand, but I will argue one softening demand off sets the increase in demand. Therefore there really is no change in supply and demand. Until the US money policy is fixed or technology intervenes, drill drill drill will never really have an impact since oil is sold on the global market and will always be sold/purchased at global market prices. Supply and demand has to change on a global scale. People like you and me can't do nothing other than manage our money correctly, and plan accordingly. Don't spend your disposible income foolishly, save, save, save.
  12. My Sig P226 aftering shooting the last round, sometimes the slide still cycles completely through with no round in the chamber. I assume this is a magazine problem. I just acquired this gun last week, and it came with a no name P228 magazine. I don't have any other compatible magazines to use (not yet anyway). Any help or suggestions?
  13. Range update, shot about 100 rounds through the gun toda, flawless and smooth, however my P220 was more accurate at the same distance at the same time. I was shooting 124 grain FMJ Speer Lawman 9mm in the P226. The P226 was a little high to the left. The P220 was dead accurate. Though the P226 is full of character, I may end up doing a duacoat project either flat black or mint desert. I think it was a good deal afterall. I do recemmond providing you have patience.
  14. Its a 9mm.
  15. Karnage, thanks. After using the magnifying glass, JH is the code, so I assume based upon your example 1987. Bascailly a well holstered 25 year old classic gun. You know in Tennessee if your car is 20+ years old, you can qualify for Antique license plates. So I wander what this thing qualifies for? lol! Serioulsy after I shoot it, and if I think its a keeper, if I can scrounge up $140 I am attempted to use the Sig Service Plan for new night sights and spring replacement. https://www.sigsauer.com/CustomShop/SSP.aspx
  16. Update, picked up the gun today. First of all, Sarco said they would ship the gun in two days, that was Tuesday, Feb. 7th. I called on Tuesday this week, the guy said it was mailing today. Today (Friday, Feb. 17th) it arrived. So 11 days from point of CC number to arrival. The gun was bascailly nasty and with slight surface rust. I have pictures posted here: http://s963.photobucket.com/albums/ae114/runco0318/ The gun is a West German P226. Traditional sights, no night sites. No Star of David imprinted, since it was a Israeli pistol. I am still trying to intrepret the proof marks in order to tell the age. The rifling looks very crisp, and the slide was actually in great shape, and showed less wear than expected. Still lots of black showing on the rails, very little to no silver showing on the slide. The exterior is in fair condition, and cleaned up well. It has been well holstered. Barrel, slide and frame serial numbers all matched. It took about an hour to clean this thing. No witness marks on the grip screws, so I don't believe the plastic OEM grips have ever been changed or messed with. I was disappointed that Sarco Arms was stamped in front of the trigger guard, guess they had to since they are likely the importer. The clip is obviously not original and aftermarket. No name whatsoever on the high capacity clip. The gun feels a little loose when compared to my newer Sigs. I bought the gun to shoot and carry on my boat. So it is a Sig and I can't wait to shoot it. Price $325, shipping $11, FFL fee $20, TN Fee $10 = $366. Not a new gun by any means, but is a classic, and I have no fear to dinging this gun up, dropping this gun, etc. Who knows, this gun may have been a Masad gun, or may have taken a shot at Arafat and his clan in its day. Happy with the purchase!
  17. Thanks Nicemac. Before I write the check, I already have the automatic $2500 for guns which is standard with State Farm, then I did buy an extra $2500 10 years ago, which I am not sure what the premium for this extra $2500 is. So I want to make sure I don't have too much insurance. Also does anyone know if the, the Insurance Companies, will replace with no questions as to condition or depreciation or proof that I had that particular firearm? Or do I have to prove to the condition, etc.
  18. Early last week, after reading this post, I contacted my local State Farm agent. I was interested in a $15K in coverage. Today, they quoted me $300 for a special rider. This seems high, advice? I have large Cannon safe, bolted through the floor with 3/4 case hardened bolts with a steel plate in the crawl space with the bolts welded to the steel plate. They would have to torch the safe to open it.
  19. If the item that I want to purchase is significant, my philsophy has been to take a picture of the item with my cell at the local store or show with price, after I touch it feel it, etc. Then research, research, research, the best possible price. I factor in sales tax (sorry Tennessee), shipping costs, other fees i.e. FFL transfer fee, ammo tax, fuel cost and my personal time (driving to and from), and then I bake all of this into the final price. If a local business wants to sweeten the deal with adding value without adding cost, then that sways my final judgment some. If a local business has a no hassle return policy, this sometimes sways my decision providing the local price preimum is within reason, i.e. <10% max. I dropped the loyality to a certain business thing many many years ago. Great business people are very shrewd. Great value shoppers are equally shrewd, if not more. It all goes back to what you consider to be significant. Look at prices in comparison to the number man hours it takes to buy something. If you want to buy a $800 Sig, and you make $30K per year, then your Sig will cost you 14 1/2 hours. In my line of work, that is a lot of stress, not necessiarly alot of money. So I am going to make sure I have exhausted every possible lead for the best deal for me before I make the purchase. The descision to buy has already been made, its just where to buy at the best possible value is the most important remaining issue. One final example, if I could buy a new car in Atlanta $800 cheaper than the same exact car in Knoxville, I will definitely drive to Atlanta to buy it. Then take that $800 that I saved and by the $800 Sig. Do your homework. Don't let impulse or thin patience mold your purchase. (Dave Ramsey eat your heart out)!
  20. I went today, nothing against this show. Its something local, and something to do with guns, but I did have to make about 5 laps in order to have some feel of a decent size show and some sense of tired feet. I did run into two acquanitances that I had seen in 15-20 years ago. Did hear many people still talking about the guy who fired his gun at last knoxville gun show.
  21. Welcome to the site and hobby.
  22. Fleet tire beat tire rack on Michelins. I used to go with just walmart cheap tires, but as I got older and carry precious cargo, I pay the extra every single time for Michelins. C&D use to be best, but barely will match Walmart, and Fleet beats everyone (or did last Spring and Summer). Fleet Tire on East Woodland Ave, off 275 in Ktown. Also big sponser of sports news of the morning on Will Wild West on Newstalk 98.7.

    Your First Car!

My dad's 1978 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8. I quickly added headers, side pipes and hung speakers from the roll bar. Great vehicle for the first 6 months until I buried it in the mud next to Douglas lake and sucked mud into the breather and carb. Got rid of the jeep and bought a 1984 Monte Carlo SS blue.
  24. Just re-read my post, I must have been tired when I wrote it. Little poor on english and grammer, but I did get a D in college for english. I did read somewhere else a similiar story on missing magazines. The guy I talked to made no mention about missing magazines, and said the pistol would ship in 1-2 days. So I am trusting what he said.
  25. I have been signed up since Jan 01, 2012, I have made a few posts, but I haven't really introduced myself. This forum is an excellent forum and I love it. So here it goes....... Living in Monroe county and I enjoy guns very well. Just the look of guns and the excitement of the purchse is just mind numbing addicting to me. Little history on myself, I use to be in the business of selling guns back in the early to mid 1990s. I use to have FFL licensed gun shop inside the Great Smokies Flea Market at 407 exit on 40, Sevierville, PF and Gatlinburg exit. Smoky Mountain Firearms was the name. I understand that name is still used by someone else today up in Kodak. Don't know if its a coincidence or not. Great business though. Anyway, looking back, that was the most fun I had working for myself and selling guns. Sold over 2,000+ guns in 3 years working 2 days a week. 2,000 / 156 days = 12.8 guns a day. Not too bad, but not getting rich either. For a period of 10-12 years after I sold my business, I never did buy another gun or did any trading. Shot occasionally, but nothing more. Still attended gun shows once and ahwile, but never did get back in the business. About 4-5 years ago, starting shooting sporting clays, and loved it. Bought a nice Browning O/U and have shot 1,000s of rounds since. Then I promised myself I would buy at least 1 gun per year, and I have stay true to myself. Its kinda of moving to 2 guns per year though, the addiction is back like in the 1990s. I guess my midlife crisis is kicking in. I like Sigs, Glocks, Berettas, Remington rifles like 541S&T, misc. old 22lr bolt actions, old double barrels, Colt AR, and alot more. Don't like to sell or trade for myself. Just like to add, add, and add. Wife doesn't understand why any one needs more than one gun, and my favortie answer is JUST IN CASE. This just in case applies to anything I buy that she sees no need for me to have, like guns, tools, lawn mowers, reloading, large purchases of ammo, cars, golf carts, diesel trucks, boats, campers, survival needs, weather radios, police scanners, etc. You just never know, just in case
