  1. This thread really has two main points. One of the points I agree with the sarcasm, and the other point I agree with the candy. But I do miss the local Knoxville weather girl Cheryl Scott who went to Chicago. The weather forecasting has not been the same since she left WBIR. I don't reckon any two men have ever agreed upon the proper size of a rick of wood.  I have heard the mythical size since I was a kid.  Agree nothing like a good fire going.
  3. Remember the local tv stations like to hype it up so you will stay tuned to their radio station.    I really just read the NOAA weather reports.  I hate to say it, government weather forecasting might be better (less hype), but the eye candy of some of the weather girls are not too bad in the Knoxville market.
  4. You ready prepared for the snow event this weekend?    http://wate.com/2016/01/21/tema-declares-state-of-emergency-ahead-of-winter-storm/   TEMA declares State of Emergency ahead of winter storm   WATE 6 On Your Side Staff Published: January 21, 2016, 4:25 pmUpdated: January 21, 2016, 5:18 pm   Related Coverage 10 steps to prepare your car for winter   Energy saving tips to help with winter weather   NASHVILLE (WATE) – The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has declared a Level III State of Emergency due to the winter weather predicted to move into the state over the next few days. TEMA says the weather system may lead to stranded motorists, power outages and people needing shelter. Key TEMA and state agency staff members, including those from the Tennessee Departments of Health, Human Services, Military and Transportation, as well as the Tennessee Highway Patrol, will all be on standby monitoring the situation. According to TEMA, a Level III State of Emergency means “an event or period when a serious emergency has occurred or the situation is deteriorating rapidly, and public warnings are being issued.” TEMA has also made contact with people with the American Red Cross, Tennessee State Parks, Tennessee Division of Forestry and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The winter weather is expected to move into West Tennessee late Thursday night into early Friday morning and progress across the state.

I don't recall what a rick is in comparison to the chord, but ricks of wood around here are $60.  Lots and lots of trees down from one year ago due to the ice storms.  I would suggest using craigslist in different cities (Knoxville, Tri-Cities, Chattanooga, etc.) to get a an idea on the market.
  6. Walmart and Amazon are not at the top because they provide a great customer service.  How many people here shop at Kmart vs. Walmart, shop mom and pop retail vs. Walmart, and just how many people shop at the local hardware store vs. Home Depot or Lowes.  Folks, price (not service) will win each and every time.  I am not sure I have bought a gun from a LGS outright in the 21st century, but I sure have bought a fair share from the internet, and my LGS has made a many $15 and $20 transfers.   They probably darn sure paid a many car payments off of me.   In my book price, price, price, will win the market each and every time.  In my view, money is hard to earn especially disposable income for a hobby, every saved nickel counts.
  7. About a month or so, I think I read on Blount County Gun Owners (BCGO) facebook page, someone posted a similar question, and someone responded the owner's health had been deteriorating for some time.
  8. Well I guess I will have to partake.  Good video!

  14. Bump for the show is here.  Any updates?
  15. I use to think the same way.  However at minimum I think the government should shut off registering to vote before early voting begins, maybe 90 days in advance.  Not provide any new transportation for voting.  In addition, I wish there was a IQ test to provide to week out low information voters.
  16. When early voting came out several years ago, I thought it was a great idea and thought finally the government is getting smarter by allowing a greater amount of time for the people to get out and go vote, who may not be able to vote on election day even though we have absentee voting.  Many more people voting means a better cross section of what the people want, isn't this what democracy is all about.  Given time to think and seeds of doubt from talk radio, I am not so sure I like early voting based upon fairness.  So I ask this question:   Do you think early voting serves both parties equally?   I have listened on conservative radio (Savage nation, Mark Levin, etc.) about how this extra time afforded in early voting allows many non-profit organizations to pop up and work hard to get people to the polls by providing transportation services for the ones that can't make it on their own, and to register people to vote.  Even people in nursing homes, shut-ins, or people who just don't have transportation are provided help.  Even people who normally don't vote, are recruited to vote by the extra time allotted in early voting.    All of this tickles ones ear as sounding great, but really is it?  Sounds great, but talk radio suggested these services are for targeted areas that traditionally vote a certain way, and these services are not provided equally to all parts of society, and honestly I am not sure you can.     So where does one find traditional republican voters that cannot make it to polls election day vs. where does one find traditional democratic voters that cannot make it to the polls on election day.  You catch my drift?   So the more I think about it, please help me by pulling me back to center, is early voting really fair to all political parties equally?       For the ones that like early voting like me for convenience sake, who can otherwise easily vote on election day itself, the above is not targeted to you.  Reason this principal would apply equally to both republican and democrats voters.
  17. You PC people and gun colors.  I guess gun color integration is better than non-integration.        PS I do like it, wouldn't care if one fell in my lap.
  18. My dad and some of my friends still use flip phones and refuse to embrace any smartphone.  My father still does not know how to check for a text message which he gets from time to time, and drives him crazy.  I think for people who grew with the ole stand by maw bell phone, thinks a phone should last forever.  Not something you trade in every two years.
  19. I often wonder about what goes into the decision, not necessarily the decision itself.  If these TN Walmarts are in bad areas, could inventory shrinkage played a big role (more so than what is reported), or could simply be just store performance alone, and performance is the bottom line.    I truly think the Amazon model will conquer and destroy most.  I admit, I much prefer a mouse click over getting in my vehicle, going to the store, walking up/down the aisles (hoping they have what I went after), waiting in line, going back to my vehicle (hoping I don't have a new door ding), and traveling home.

  21. Not sure I will see this movie.................doc says to watch my blood pressure.  I think this would stroke me out.
  22. I use an excel spreadsheet, and I have a hard copy in my lockbox at the bank and in the cloud.  I do  have individual pictures of each firearm.  I also have the NRA insurance and a special rider of insurance from State Farm.   So I am about 90% covered.    But I will tell you, the day I got the rider, I felt like I was treated as a freak.  The lady at State Farm actually rolled her eyes and re-confirmed that had X amount, and that I wanted insurance.   I know she wanted to ask me why.  I almost prefer just filling out paperwork online and paying online.
  23. Found this article today. Though its not from the NRA, the author implies the sampling of the demographics comes from the Friends of the NRA dinners and events since the NRA itself does not keep numbers of its race and other information. The author claims about 3% of the membership attend a Friends of the NRA event. Which by the way there is Friends of the NRA event in Pigeon Forge on April 9th @ the Music Road Convention Center https://friendsofnra.org/eventtickets/Events/Details/44?eventId=52350 http://www.ammoland.com/2016/01/the-demographics-of-the-nra/#axzz3xF4eonPn The Demographics of Today’s NRA – Bad News for Haters Posted on January 13, 2016January 15, 2016by Justin Stakes by Don McDougall The Demographics of Today’s NRA – Bad News for HatersDon McDougallUnited States -(AmmoLand.com)- Gun owners are leaving the Democrat party. That decline in people who identify as Democrat is due to their attacks on gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment. They may never go back and will not ever vote against gun rights. The anti-gun left will tell you the NRA is made up white guys over 60. 15+ years ago they were right. Today and over the past 15-20 years, the make-up of the NRA has changed. This has ramifications for the upcoming election and the nation as a whole. So what does the NRA membership look like today? 40% women 40% minority mostly Asian and Hispanic men and women. Sure, the rest are a lot of white guys but the average age is down from 60 to 40-45. The NRA is more inter-racial, younger and looks a hell of a lot more like America than the anti-gun left would have you think. The gun grabber like Hillary and her ilk are stuck in the 1990’s. They see the NRA as it was 25-30 years ago. Old – White – needing to lose 30 lbs. They’re simply wrong. The NRA looks like America because it IS made up of average Americans. Why are the gun banners so wrong? They confuse race with cultural assimilation. The Hispanic families or Vietnamese families that moved here 20-30 years ago have children who are Americans. These new Americans have American dreams listen to American music and are in fact slightly more conservative than their peers and parents. The women are the fastest growing demographic of new gun owners. The specious assumption that anyone of color or gender will stay a liberal and not assimilate into American culture or change their views is a mistake. So when the anti-gunners read this (and they do), they will tell you I’m lying. That it is safe for you to hate and vilify the NRA because it is all white and made us of racists who grind baby’s bones to make bread and murder cats as a sacrifice to the goddess Hooku. Oh and according to many of the left we’re also all “latent homosexuals who worship guns as sexual objects”. The fact is we are all just average people who just want our rights protected and to be left alone. The NRA, NFL, NBA and music,…etc. These new immigrants do what all new immigrants do given the chance – they BECOME LIKE US, they BECOME AMERICANS! The anti-gun left wants to define the NRA. They want to tell you who we are, what we believe and what we think. They are 180 degrees off and are incapable of accepting how wrong they are. This is why their insincere calls for gun control fail. This is why their lies fall on deaf ears. The anti-gunners feel safe attacking a group they felt was made up of old white guys. So how can I tell you what the NRA make up is? It’s simple, and while the anti-gunners are crying foul, I am sure of my association and my numbers. You see while the NRA proper does not count the race of their members the Friend of the NRA does. So consider this 1,100 events with an average of 150 people plus per event. The fact is 3% of the NRA members by count come to Friends of the NRA dinners and events. We PHYSICALLY SEE 3% of the NRA membership by count every year. Friends of the NRA raised $600,000,000.00 in the last decade or so for juniors’ programs and women’s programs. Not a dime goes to politics. Women on Target touched close to 1 million women, all 1st-time gun owners and now happy and productive NRA members. But when their target audiences are women and minorities, and they make up 40% of the group being attacking they look like fools. The gun grabbers who think an organization as effective of the NRA and it’s charitable foundations do not know the make-up of their members are just deluding themselves. Some final statistics that you need to know. The NRA is 23% democrat! Only slightly less than the national average for the general population! (The national average is 29% democrat.) The NRA supports ANY politician who respects the 2nd Amendment and the Constitution. They are not a left or right organization. Most of the NRA support goes to the GOP because the GOP supports the 2nd Amendment, not the other way around. The most popular rifle used in high power competition? AR in all it’s forms. The gun the anti-gun left want to ban is the most commonly used centerfire rifle in competition! I wonder if they know that? About Don McDougall: Don McDougall is an NRA instructor and member of the Los Padres “Friends of the NRA” committee. If he’s not at the range you will find him setting the record straight with on gun issues and gun safety on AmmoLand Shooting Sports News.
  24. Honestly, I do not see Native Americans in front of a microphone on the news complaining, its always a liberal white person, why?
  25. Not 100% I have a technical problem, its probably me.  When I view new content, in which I leave my defaulted to Past 24 hours, it seems that its not always 100% accurate for the past 24 hours.  For example, before posting about the death of Grizzly Adams, I looked (did not search) and since I did not see it, I created a post 6:54pm.  This morning, I see that someone else created a post little over 2 hours earlier.      Now how did I miss that, I think maybe it wasn't shown in my View Content.  Other times, I have found new content which I swear I didn't see before.  Maybe its me getting older, but it seems to happen more and more in recent months.     Technical issue or Me?
