1. Walmart Sevierville had great ammo stock, but no 22lr, but did have plenty pistol and high power rifle. Did have some 223 50 grain stuff, and they did have 7.62x39. Oh and they did have several tactical 22s, Sig and M&P, I thought about it, but didn't. We were there around 3:30pm today.
2.
Nothing better made than the Howard Leight ear plugs. And I mean nothing.   The ones you squish down, insert, and hold in there till they expand back and seal. Get them in there correctly and they deaden sound like nothing else.   Drawback, you literally can't hear a thing, people pretty much have to yell right in your ear.   I have pair of Leight electronic muffs and they pale by comparison; don't seal all that well to begin with and the electronic cutout seems too late.   Was test flighting my AR pistol the other day, loudest gun I have I reckon. The Leight plugs made it like a cap gun.   - OS
I have the Leight electric ones on my Santa list, would you recommend them. They don't have to seal perfectly, I just want a good over the ear muffs that I can hear normal conversations with. With those darn ear plugs, I can't hear anything, especially when shooting clays and when I have the thrower switch in my hand and others say "pull" multiple times. It's a little embarrassing.
3.
Call me a conspiracist but I don't believe this gun control movement has anything to do with "saving lives".
I don't disagree, but the 2nd amendment can be appealed, if alcohol can be banned so can guns. But in the end, alcohol abolishers failed, as would a ban on guns.
4. There is a precedent already made, do not forget the 18th and 21st amendment.  Amercia abolished its most beloved liquid substance, something greater than guns (can you believe that), then a short time later, said oops.    Little known facts:  This substance today is responsbile for 24,518 deaths in 2009 (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr60/nvsr60_03.pdf) (page11), and for kicks and giggles, death by guns in the same year were 31,347 (59.8% suicide, 40.1% homicide) or 11,504 deaths of homicide, where is the media on this?  Why focus on guns, and not the liquid substance.  BTW did you know 25,562 people died in 2009 from a fall, what a travesty, where is the outcry of this?
5. For once I feel like old man Potter from It’s a Wonderful Life, when the panic set in, when everyone else was selling, old man Potter was buying, remember that quote? I lived through this once 20 years ago, and was not totally prepared then, but I was prepared this time. I have no problems what so ever in a free economy, and the principals of supply and demand.  Let'em gouge, let'em gorge, only the panic of people is the problem.  Without demand, pricing would be normal, actually less than normal.
6. I recall he is a phony, and a flat out no good American, I recall he physcially threw away several service metals including his purple heart, bronze star and silver star.  What a piece of work.  To remind everyone, here are a few ads from that very respectful swiftboat crew back in 2004, and just one link to wikipedia:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phqOuEhg9yE   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oObCOFiIrDc   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kerry_military_service_controversy
7. I searched for one on TGO, and did not find one, just any standard form letter to our elected officals, well anyway, this will be my letter to my representative and two senators.  If you have one, please post as well, no sense in re-inventing the wheel:   <your name> Address1 Address2   Date   Congresswoman / Congressman their name Local District office address   Dear Congresswoman / Congressman their name,   This letter is to encourage you to vote for any new legislation to add armed security at our state and federally funded schools including higher education, and to vote down any new gun legislation that may come up for vote as a direct result of the horrific tragedy that occurred at the Sandy Hook school.    Like others, I know we must do something, and like the President said, we can do better than this, but what we do must be real, measurable and effective, not just something that sounds good, or feeds a political agenda.       I know that any legislation will be monumental and evoke a lot of passion on both sides of the debate.  I am a father (grandfather, uncle, aunt, etc.) of beautiful and wonderful school age children, and I am very concerned a tragedy like Sandy Hook could happen locally at our schools.  I know academically by posted signs or physically banning any type or all guns could never work (not realistic), but adding armed security now at local schools is the only solution that is real, measurable and would be effective.  This security can be achieved by numerous ways, but taking a simple approach of having trained professionals like police officers, retired military, or to be cost effective, even have factuality and/or staff professionally trained in armed security would work now.  Why is it that Banks, Airports, Capital Buildings, Celebrities and Stadium events all have strong security and in many places armed security, but yet our most precious gifts are left vulnerable?  The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.   I genuinely appreciate the role you play in shaping our country.  Thank you for your public service and promotion of peace and harmony in our lifetime.   Warm Regards,
8. My P6 and my supertuck.  Home, and all safe.
9. Before I begin, I already saw that 2 or more other postings with different post titles were started on this subject.  No disrespect against those posts, I just thought the titles were not too catchy or have a certain dialoge all of their own.  To me,  this is a very historic speech about something I feel very passionate about, so I thought it deserved a more newsworthy title, and maybe a differnt tone of its own.  So mods. use your own judgment if you want to kill my version (no hurt feelings).   I heard the speech live from work, and I was very impressed.  I even downloaded the speech to re-read, and re-read again, to study and form my own opinion.   In my view, for meaningful action that would have traction, their proposal is the only one that would work.    Below are two versions, the cliff notes version through my prisim, and then the speech unedited:   Cliff Notes Version: How do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works? We care about the President, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents. Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by armed Capitol Police officers. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. But since when did the word "gun" automatically become a bad word? A gun in the hands of a Secret Service agent protecting the President isn't a bad word. A gun in the hands of a soldier protecting the United States isn't a bad word. The NRA is going to bring all of its knowledge, dedication and resources to develop a model National School Shield Emergency Response Program for every school that wants it. If we truly cherish our kids more than our money or our celebrities, we must give them the greatest level of protection possible and the security that is only available with a properly trained — armed — good guy. That's a plan of action that can, and will, make a real, positive and indisputable difference in the safety of our children — starting right now.   The Long Version:   NRA PRESS CONFERENCE 12/21/2012 The National Rifle Association's 4 million mothers, fathers, sons and daughters join the nation in horror, outrage, grief and earnest prayer for the families of Newtown, Connecticut ... who suffered such incomprehensible loss as a result of this unspeakable crime.   Out of respect for those grieving families, and until the facts are known, the NRA has refrained from comment. While some have tried to exploit tragedy for political gain, we have remained respectfully silent.   Now, we must speak ... for the safety of our nation's children. Because for all the noise and anger directed at us over the past week, no one — nobody — has addressed the most important, pressing and immediate question we face: How do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works?   The only way to answer that question is to face up to the truth. Politicians pass laws for Gun-Free School Zones. They issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them. And in so doing, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are their safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.   How have our nation's priorities gotten so far out of order? Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, courthouses — even sports stadiums — are all protected by armed security. We care about the President, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents. Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by armed Capitol Police officers.   Yet when it comes to the most beloved, innocent and vulnerable members of the American family — our children — we as a society leave them utterly defenseless, and the monsters and predators of this world know it and exploit it. That must change now!   The truth is that our society is populated by an unknown number of genuine monsters — people so deranged, so evil, so possessed by voices and driven by demons that no sane person can possibly ever comprehend them. They walk among us every day. And does anybody really believe that the next Adam Lanza isn't planning his attack on a school he's already identified at this very moment? How many more copycats are waiting in the wings for their moment of fame — from a national media machine that rewards them with the wall-to-wall attention and sense of identity that they crave — while provoking others to try to make their mark?   A dozen more killers? A hundred? More? How can we possibly even guess how many, given our nation's refusal to create an active national database of the mentally ill?   And the fact is, that wouldn't even begin to address the much larger and more lethal criminal class: Killers, robbers, rapists and drug gang members who have spread like cancer in every community in this country. Meanwhile, federal gun prosecutions have decreased by 40% — to the lowest levels in a decade.   So now, due to a declining willingness to prosecute dangerous criminals, violent crime is increasing again for the first time in 19 years! Add another hurricane, terrorist attack or some other natural or man-made disaster, and you've got a recipe for a national nightmare of violence and victimization. And here's another dirty little truth that the media try their best to conceal: There exists in this country a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people. Through vicious, violent video games with names like Bulletstorm, Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and Splatterhouse. And here's one: it's called Kindergarten Killers. It's been online for 10 years. How come my research department could find it and all of yours either couldn't or didn't want anyone to know you had found it?   Then there's the blood-soaked slasher films like "American Psycho" and "Natural Born Killers" that are aired like propaganda loops on "Splatterdays" and every day, and a thousand music videos that portray life as a joke and murder as a way of life. And then they have the nerve to call it "entertainment."   But is that what it really is? Isn't fantasizing about killing people as a way to get your kicks really the filthiest form of pornography?   In a race to the bottom, media conglomerates compete with one another to shock, violate and offend every standard of civilized society by bringing an ever-more-toxic mix of reckless behavior and criminal cruelty into our homes — every minute of every day of every month of every year.   A child growing up in America witnesses 16,000 murders and 200,000 acts of violence by the time he or she reaches the ripe old age of 18.   And throughout it all, too many in our national media ... their corporate owners ... and their stockholders ... act as silent enablers, if not complicit co-conspirators. Rather than face their own moral failings, the media demonize lawful gun owners, amplify their cries for more laws and fill the national debate with misinformation and dishonest thinking that only delay meaningful action and all but guarantee that the next atrocity is only a news cycle away.   The media call semi-automatic firearms "machine guns" — they claim these civilian semi-automatic firearms are used by the military, and they tell us that the .223 round is one of the most powerful rifle calibers ... when all of these claims are factually untrue. They don't know what they're talking about!   Worse, they perpetuate the dangerous notion that one more gun ban — or one more law imposed on peaceful, lawful people — will protect us where 20,000 others have failed!   As brave, heroic and self-sacrificing as those teachers were in those classrooms, and as prompt, professional and well-trained as those police were when they responded, they were unable — through no fault of their own — to stop it.   As parents, we do everything we can to keep our children safe. It is now time for us to assume responsibility for their safety at school. The only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away ... or a minute away?   Now, I can imagine the shocking headlines you'll print tomorrow morning: "More guns," you'll claim, "are the NRA's answer to everything!" Your implication will be that guns are evil and have no place in society, much less in our schools. But since when did the word "gun" automatically become a bad word?   A gun in the hands of a Secret Service agent protecting the President isn't a bad word. A gun in the hands of a soldier protecting the United States isn't a bad word. And when you hear the glass breaking in your living room at 3 a.m. and call 911, you won't be able to pray hard enough for a gun in the hands of a good guy to get there fast enough to protect you.   So why is the idea of a gun good when it's used to protect our President or our country or our police, but bad when it's used to protect our children in their schools?   They're our kids. They're our responsibility. And it's not just our duty to protect them — it's our right to protect them.   You know, five years ago, after the Virginia Tech tragedy, when I said we should put armed security in every school, the media called me crazy. But what if, when Adam Lanza started shooting his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School last Friday, he had been confronted by qualified, armed security?   Will you at least admit it's possible that 26 innocent lives might have been spared? Is that so abhorrent to you that you would rather continue to risk the alternative?   Is the press and political class here in Washington so consumed by fear and hatred of the NRA and America's gun owners that you're willing to accept a world where real resistance to evil monsters is a lone, unarmed school principal left to surrender her life to shield the children in her care? No one — regardless of personal political prejudice — has the right to impose that sacrifice.   Ladies and gentlemen, there is no national, one-size-fits-all solution to protecting our children. But do know this President zeroed out school emergency planning grants in last year's budget, and scrapped "Secure Our Schools" policing grants in next year's budget.   With all the foreign aid, with all the money in the federal budget, we can't afford to put a police officer in every school? Even if they did that, politicians have no business — and no authority — denying us the right, the ability, or the moral imperative to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm.   Now, the National Rifle Association knows that there are millions of qualified active and retired police; active, reserve and retired military; security professionals; certified firefighters and rescue personnel; and an extraordinary corps of patriotic, trained qualified citizens to join with local school officials and police in devising a protection plan for every school. We can deploy them to protect our kids now. We can immediately make America's schools safer — relying on the brave men and women of America's police force.   The budget of our local police departments are strained and resources are limited, but their dedication and courage are second to none and they can be deployed right now.   I call on Congress today to act immediately, to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school — and to do it now, to make sure that blanket of safety is in place when our children return to school in January.   Before Congress reconvenes, before we engage in any lengthy debate over legislation, regulation or anything else, as soon as our kids return to school after the holiday break, we need to have every single school in America immediately deploy a protection program proven to work — and by that I mean armed security.   Right now, today, every school in the United States should plan meetings with parents, school administrators, teachers and local authorities — and draw upon every resource available — to erect a cordon of protection around our kids right now. Every school will have a different solution based on its own unique situation.   Every school in America needs to immediately identify, dedicate and deploy the resources necessary to put these security forces in place right now. And the National Rifle Association, as America's preeminent trainer of law enforcement and security personnel for the past 50 years, is ready, willing and uniquely qualified to help.   Our training programs are the most advanced in the world. That expertise must be brought to bear to protect our schools and our children now. We did it for the nation's defense industries and military installations during World War II, and we'll do it for our schools today.   The NRA is going to bring all of its knowledge, dedication and resources to develop a model National School Shield Emergency Response Program for every school that wants it. From armed security to building design and access control to information technology to student and teacher training, this multi-faceted program will be developed by the very best experts in their fields.   Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson will lead this effort as National Director of the National School Shield Program, with a budget provided by the NRA of whatever scope the task requires. His experience as a U.S. Attorney, Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency and Undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security will give him the knowledge and expertise to hire the most knowledgeable and credentialed experts available anywhere, to get this program up and running from the first day forward.   If we truly cherish our kids more than our money or our celebrities, we must give them the greatest level of protection possible and the security that is only available with a properly trained — armed — good guy.   Under Asa's leadership, our team of security experts will make this the best program in the world for protecting our children at school, and we will make that program available to every school in America free of charge.   That's a plan of action that can, and will, make a real, positive and indisputable difference in the safety of our children — starting right now.   There'll be time for talk and debate later. This is the time, this is the day for decisive action. We can't wait for the next unspeakable crime to happen before we act. We can't lose precious time debating legislation that won't work. We mustn't allow politics or personal prejudice to divide us. We must act now.   For the sake of the safety of every child in America, I call on every parent, every teacher, every school administrator and every law enforcement officer in this country to join us in the National School Shield Program and protect our children with the only line of positive defense that's tested and proven to work.       This link may change, but here is the one that I used:   Link:  http://home.nra.org/#
10. If confirmed factual, I do not believe in coincidences, hmmmm.
11. Two things, 20 years ago when I ran a small business, I use to keep a copy of my Tennessee sales tax documents on file at my local Walmart, it allowed me to bypass paying sales tax on anything that I was buying for re-sale.  Likely a gun shop today, would do the same.  2nd, either the local gun shop provided a copy of his FFL to the Walmart to avoid the 4473, or if the local Wally couldn't manage a transfer to the 4473, then the 4473 could be filled out by the legal purchaser.  No break in the paper trail.  If the gun acquired by the gun dealer who purchased it from Walmart, was used in a crime, it is still traceable to the seller that acquired it from the gun shop.  I recall buying several guns from pawn shops when I was a FFL dealer, I had forgotten to have a hard FFL copy on me at the time, and I just purchased them with the 4473.   Personally, as a consumer, I do not like this, however cudos to the gun shop for being resourceful, and this is a free market society in action just reacting to a supply and demand situation.  I would rather have a free market, then a dictated market.
12. I came really really close in acquiring another AR as late as Monday which still had pre Conn. Pricing. Just could not justify it with my current collection, and I no longer buy to make money on guns. Just a collector, shooter, and a carrier these days.
13. I hate to step in the pile that thing dropped.
14. In October 1993, before the first ban was passed, a Colt HBAR 6601 was $799.  The new ban law was signed in late October '93 with a 10 year ban, and I recall the law went into effect I think in February 1994, and the pricing for the same Colts were $1600-$1800, and none could be found.  I never paid the price, but I did sell 3 in that price range from smart investing.  With the potential of a new permanent ban, likely 2X or 3X+ will be the norm.  People will pay it.  They will never, ever, again be able to buy one.
15. How bad was the first Ban?   It was sooo bad that I remember $120 Glock 17 magazines, $1800 Colt AR15s, and they did not last long if a dealer had them.
16. I ordered 10 PMAGS, 5 black and 5 ODG from them the day after the mall shooting 10-12 days ago, Monday, 12/10. They arrived on Friday, 12/14, 4 days later. They shipped from Los Angeles, and free shipping. Small note with the shipment, said thank you. I would estimate they either had plans to close for the holidays, or have already been wiped clean of inventory, or hacked. If you paid by CC you will be fine, max you can be out is $50 I think.
17. Now that is a good comment. I too have been preparing, just last week I purchased 10 pmags for under $11 ea to add to my collection of aluminum ones. Ironic they arrived last friday. I purchased 1,000s of 5.56 over the years, and have plenty of stock. I too am learning to reload and actually want to learn how to cast my own bullets. So I guess I am prepared. I too thought I worked with other gun buddies, so I was not prepared yesterday when they turned on me. I purposely stayed quiet on most of the discussions due to the passionate emotions that were present. Funny though, I kept a black plastic fork on my desk in clear view. I did refer to it a couple of times that the fork needed banning too because it made me fat, especially an evil black one. These turn coats got the message.
18. Another wrinkle in the brain, thanks!
19. The Mayans were gun nuts, they predicted the end of guns as we know it.
20. I work in the office of a manufacturing environment, many professionals, probably close to 75 people. For a number of years, everyone knows that I am gun nut, and many seek out my opinions on gun brands, what is the best for their situation, and just my 2 cents on most anything gun related, but today I felt extremely isolated. A few tried to have provoking conversations with me about why does anyone need one of those M16 looking things, with large banana clips. Why, why, why, with strong emotion.  Several others that had just weeks ago talked to me about buying their first pistol ever, told me they had made up their mind, no guns period. If this is a reflection of the true pulse of the nation, I believe we are about to see a true Tsunami of gun law changes, I am not so sure Grandfather clauses will be available.    Did anyone else have a similar day today?
21. I know, but my point is, he does not have to make political decisions, only his agenda decisions which may or may not be interwoven into the dem. idology.
22. I was reading on "Truth About Guns", and this arthor wrote:  "Originally mooted as an emergency measure to deal with U.S. to Mexico gun smuggling, the ATF registry morphed into a pilot program.  Which will now automatically renew.  The registry was created by Executive Order, bypassing Congress and violating federal rules against the creation of any federal gun registry.  After a trip to court, the long gun registry was unleashed".  If you want to read the whole article for yourself, here is the link:  http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/12/robert-farago/obama-executive-order-banning-assault-rifles/#more-178607   I honestly believe under the pre-text of an emergency measure, a EO on assault weapons can easily be signed.  What congressman would stand on the floor of the House and Senate in the wake of what just happened, and shout that a AR, AK, etc. should not be banned.  I believe BHO will strike while its HOT.  Becuase if this goes into a debate, and over time, people have short term memories, an AWB would likely not pass.  Be mindful, BHO is a lame duck now.  He has nothing to lose.  He can show fellow democrats there is nothing to fear, the american people have endorsed him and his idealogy, just look at the most recent election, and just like sheep, the dems. will think they are bullet proof.
23. You do know what I am doing, I am building my justification to buy another AR, last month I bought the Sig M400, I already have a pre-ban Colt A2 6550 Government model (pristine condition), I would just like to add the Colt 6920.  I have absolutely no justification whatsoever prior to yesterday to buy one.  Then reading other boards, the EO idea got me thinking.
24. I have not seen any posting, but Vonore is having another gun show this weekend (12/15 and 12/16). I went when it opened, was able to view everything <20 min. Not too many deals, at least through my prism. I did see someone buy a gun from a table, and while the paperwork was being filled out, the buyer asked the seller what caliber did it shoot. Wow, maybe I put too much homework into a gun purchase. Went again at 3:30pm this afternoon, bought some Critical Duty 9mm +P at a reasonable price, was able to view everything in <10 min. this time. Very quiet and not too many people, just crickets chirping and occasional Taser sound from one of those personal protective Taser devices. There was a cool setup of Christmas ornaments for kids, custom made while you wait, I believe that vendor had the most business going on. More knives than guns, but hey it was in my back yard.
