The title of this topic reminds me of the several quotes from the 1980 hilarious movie Airplane. Steve McCrosky (Loyd Bridges) would often say, "Looks like I picked a bad time......" For you over the age 40 crowd do you remember?

Thought of another one that I just watched a couple of days ago, one of my all time favorites, and probably the biggest guns metioned so far: http://

Have you had any backlash because you are a gunner?
runco replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I had a similiar experience the next work day after CT, most everything has returned to normal. Its hard for those to defend address the mental illness, not the tool. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/56404-felt-like-a-leper-today-how-about-you/?hl=leper -
I got caught too. I thought I would be slick, did only a 24 hour listing on a high capacity magazine I no longer need, and got caught with 2 hours to go with a several good bids. I kept it basic and simple with no reference to the capacity number. Their response to me was: (Ebay User Name) You recently listed the following listing: Item: xyz Unfortunately, we had to remove your listing because of the following: We do not permit the sale of firearm magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds. We understand that you may not have been aware of these limitations, and that you most likely did not intentionally disregard eBay policy. However, we must ask that you do not relist this item; Doing so may jeopardize your eBay account. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. Magazines with a capacity of 10 rounds or less may be listed. However, the capacity must be stated in the item description, or clearly visible within the images used in the listing. If there are contradicting terms (i.e. 10 rounds or less is stated, but the image shows 15) these listings may also be removed. eBay prohibits the sale of magazines that accept more than 10 rounds, typically referred to as "high capacity" magazines. These items may not be sold, regardless of how they are described in the listing. For more information on our policy, please review visit the Firearms section of the following link: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/firearms-weapons-knives.html All fees related to this listing have been credited to your account. We also notified members who placed bids on the item that the listing has been canceled. Please note: violation of this or other eBay policies may result in forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings, limits on account privileges and account suspension

Funny that you should ask, I am going to buy the same one. I am going to buy online though, i.e. Amazon, Ebay, etc. I was going to press the buy it button today. The pricing appears to be in the $170-$180ish range delivered. There is a used one on ebay right now.

I have stumbled into buying used brass locally, but by the pound and not by the piece. I wasn't sure I was getting a great deal or not since the seller had no idea of how many pieces were in a bag. Did a little research, and stumbled into this list on another forum, not sure of its accuracy, but assume is accurate. Thought I would post it here, maybe someone else needs this information when buying used brass like me. If somone wants to correct or add to this list, please do so. Enjoy: 9mm, 59.46gr/ea, 117.7cases/#, 8.5#/1000 38spl, 68.06gr/ea, 102.8cases/#, 9.7#/1000 40s&w, 70.1gr/ea, 99.9cases/#, 10#/1000 .357mag, 78.3gr/ea, 89.4cases/#, 11.2#/1000 .45acp, 89.58gr/ea, 78.1cases/#, 12.8#/1000 .223, 95.28gr/ea , 73.5cases/#, 13.6#/1000 .44mag, 114.38gr/ea, 61.2cases/#, 16.3#/1000 50bmg, 865.26gr/ea, 8.1cases/#, 123.5#/1000 All weights are uncleaned fired cases with the primer remaining.

I honestly do not find it at all uncomfortable. I use the Crossbreed supertuck at about the 4-5 o'clock position, and like others have said, I have grown so accustomed to it, I sometimes forget its there. I rotate all of my P series Sigs through my carry rotation just so as to not hurt the other Sigs feelings. So large / mid size alloy (heavy) guns. Oh before I forget, you do have to have one pant size larger though to accomodate the 1" or so waist size increase. I am self conscious about OWB wearing even with a jacket on, but not with a IWB, I shouldn't be, but I am. I like to fly under the radar the best I can.

I follow this guy's suggestion (he is quite knowlegible), its borrowed from this posting http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/56167-good-reloading-starter-kit/?hl=%2Bclean+%2Bbrass#entry859307, I think #5 posting to be exact, 1/2 way through his post he writes:

Imagine for a moment someone purchased and flipped a AR purchased from Walmart post CT. Made a cool $1k profit. Suppose the gun was flipped one more time. This time a wacky person had it and repeated the CT school where another group of children were killed. Imagine the heat and full weight of the U.S. government plus media coming down on the buyer that bought the AR from Walmart. The original buyer may or may not have broken the law, but most likely $20K later or more in attorney fees to help clear their name, they can sit back and enjoy the $1k profit, and look through the photo album of newspaper clippings of thier picture being posted everywhere. Most of us have never been subjected to a gun trace investigation, especially where a homocide is involved, where we may have been the original gun owner. Over the years I have read in other places about the intense heat and pressure from local authorities about the gun sale transaction in these gun sale traces. In some cases the authorities attempt to prove you did not follow the law in selling the firearm, or you are acting like a non-licensed dealer. They will try everyway to smear you. If they can establish a pattern of buying and trading, they will let a jury decide if the person was acting like a non-licensed dealer or not. The law is gray on what is and what is not private individual acting like a gun dealer. Me personally I do not want the responsibility or roll the dice to get caught up in anything that could hurt me and my family. That is why over a lifetime of being associated with guns, I have amassed a collection. I rarely trade or sale, in fact I don't.

This was a reason I stopped selling guns 20+ years ago. I did sell a few guns for a brief small period of time as an individual, then I stopped when I acquried my FFL for a legtimate business endeavor. Never have sold one since as an individual without a bill of sale. Just remember each and every gun that is purchased on a 4473 will have a 20 year tracibitliy. Though it is not against the law to sell a gun occasionally, if a gun was used in a crime, and the oringal owner purchased the gun on a 4473, and then sold it a short time later, though legal, the seller could have a hard time convincing a jury that he/she was not happy with the gun purchase, and simply wanted to get rid of it, combined with the prosecutor could prove significant money was made in between the transaction. This could spell disaster for the seller, and could prove that the seller was acting like a FFL dealer. This is a very gray area, and the stars and planets would have to allign, but could.

Wanting (maybe needing) to start reloading...
runco replied to charlessummers's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have contemplated reloading for 20+ years, just always viewed reloaders as essentic gun people who live in Idaho type settings. Then one day I realized I am one of those essentic gun people who doesn't have the tools or experence to reload. Runco get off your can and get busy! But before I made the plunge, I still wanted to go about this from a common manly point of view, I started looking at the cost savings in a very analytical cost accountant way. The first set of numbers, showed an actual cost increase to reload. Then I went as far as seperating fixed costs from variable costs. Still I could not see a measurable rate of return, if any, then it hit me. If I move brass to fixed costs, and begin casting my own, then I can start to see a real savings. Then when I thought I had it all figured out, then the bus hit me. In its simpliest form, I just really need to know and have the capabilty at home on how to reload for my common calibers because there is coming a day that there will be no ammo to be found, and then what I am going to do? Not shoot anymore? So I finally said the heck with justifying my ROI, I need the equipment and supplies, press, dies, powder, primers, and either a life time supply of bullets or the abilty to cast on my own, I figure I have enough brass (loaded currently) to do myself. So that was my decision. I scarficed my next major gun purchase money for a complete A-Z setup for pistol/rifle. Now I have all that I need or close to it. I am currently working on a tumbler with stainless steel media. I am already bidding on these on ebay as I type this. (P.S. I could still use some more 223/5.56 brass though). As soon as I am confident with loading brass, I will move to shotgun. I actually shoot more shotgun (sporting clays) than brass shooting, but I have close to 1,000 shotgun rounds. -
The gun auction in Athens back in the Summer taught me a valuable lesson, DON'T EVER GO TO A GUN AUCTION AGAIN, unless for entertainment purposes only. Gun auctions bring out a hidden sickness that is in certain people, they lose all sense of rationale, they forget normal retail pricing, and they go into a fever pitch, gotta have it, gotta have it, SOLD! He, he its mine. These same people 24 hours removed from the auction will lie through their teeth what the out the door price was. Its always 50% of what they actually paid! My 2 cents!

The real problem is that people have already gave up the fight, and have convinced themselves that the government is going to do something this time, something new and permanent. Instead of digging in for a fight, just throw in the towel, and buy now, forget bargain pricing, just secure that gun that you have thought about for years, buy a couple of mags and buy ammo, put it in the closet, and say whew....finally got my Feinstein weapon. These type of people don't care about pricing, its on a credit card anyway, just acquire it because they believe these items will not be available ever again in a few months. Regardless who whipped it up, the media, internet, gun clerks, or just the old men at Hardees talking over coffee each morning (aka ole farts), its whipped into a foaming lather right now. Opportunists are cashing in (don't blame them), and these die hard gun enthusiast wannabes were caught with their pants down and are now paying through the nose. It just hurts some of the real die hards temporarily.

Best Hearing Protection Advice please
runco replied to Newman's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Update, I did purchase the day after Christmas the Howard Leight R-01902 Impact Pro Electronic Shooting Earmuffs. Actually purchased them from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-R-01902-Electronic-Shooting-Earmuffs/dp/B007BGSI5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356898239&sr=8-1&keywords=Howard+Leight+by+Honeywell+R-01902 These are my first electronic earmuffs. They are the large ones, not the low profile ones. All that I can say is outstanding. With the power off, they sealed perfectly and dampen the sound really well. In my garage I have a radio that is playing most of the time, and with the muffs on, I can not hear the radio period. I have some cheap earmuffs from Northern Tool that I wear when weed eating or when I use the leaf blower, and with the cheap headphones on I can faintly hear the radio playing. Even when I use the foam ear plugs, inserted the way they are suppose to be (trained at work), again I can still hear the radio very faintly. However, with the new ear muffs on, absolutely nothing with the power off. When I turn power on, I can hear the radio, and then some. I was concerned after what OS said about his not fitting well, I was prepared to send back, but not now. Very good. Highly recommend. -

Having such a system is on my radar screen early in 2013. I admit I have not done my due dilgence entirely, so reading threads like this is very helpful. I may have some dumb questions though, Are these systems stand alone without any connection to your regular PC? Can they be? I assume these systems require their own monitor, or can you pipe them into your normal PC monitor or TV? I further assume, the only real difficulty is running of cable? Other than my questions, I assume its sort of straight forward, a hard drive, a comptuer to itself, cameras, mounting and wiring. Then if you want to get jiggy with it, you can go wireless, internet capability, etc.

In all seriousness, I wonder if the manufacturers and middlemen are hoarding, waiting till they have better direction/read of the situation, i.e. if there is a real risk of actual gun ban, then release the inventory at unheard of prices at the wholesale level, or if this is just talk, then release the inventory at normal pre-Connecticut pricing. Its just hard to believe that the entire supply chain is dried up!

Do you reckon the show will be any good by mid day Sunday?
-
If I was the promoter of this show, I believe $50 entrance fee vs. $10 would have not stopped the madness, and I would have charged $10 to park. If Dollywood can charge a huge fee to park, so should a Gun Show, and people would have paid it! Gun shows of the future may be just a traveling roadside museum. They better make their money now!
