Here is my 2 cents: I grew up in the Ford vs. Chevy house, and there was no middle road, Dodge wasn't an option. When I first dove into guns, I never heard of Sig, and Glocks were just hitting the market, and was being tossed out there as a plastic gun. So I bought a Beretta 92FS. When I got really serious about guns, and listening to active police officers in the early 1990s, most (high percentage) says nothing was better than a Sig, so I bought one, a P229. As time went on I acquired a Gen2 Glock 17. As decade or two passed, when money wasn't too much of a deciding factor, I bought more Sigs, and then quietly I bought another Glock. Bought some more Sigs, and bought another Glock. My rationale is that if a high percentage of men/women use Glocks every day in their professional job (LEO), then they must be excellent tools. If elite military and LEO agencies use Sigs, then they must be extraordinary tools. So in this house, there is no Ford and Chevy choices, but admiration of proven tools. I lean on Sigs though! One more view point and I am done. I still relate guns to women in a lot of ways from my teenage and early 20s years. Sigs and Glocks are just like the Pretty Girls and not so pretty girls. Some of you will go out of your way to be seen with pretty, girls, show and tell, brag, trophy, etc., and others its okay to be seen with the not so pretty, not so glamorous, no trophy, etc. However, when it counts (Sorry Sig), when its time to get real intimate, both will not let you down, and both are proven bed buddies. Now if I could get my Sig / Glocks off of birth control, then I would be cooking with peanut oil (Thanks Phil).

Great invention! In high school I witnessed a fellow student in woodworking class, lose his thumb, that was 30 years ago, and I am still squirmish around any woodworking tools to this day. Wait, just in, the government invented that!

Happy Ground Hog Day! February 2, 2013. Wish I could go whistle pig shooting this morning and be the weatherman murderer. It looks like from my window, there is a 50/50 chance he will see his shadow here in Monroe Co. So I guess if he does, there is a 50/50 chance of 6 more weeks of winter. I think it has been mild regarding cold cold temperatures, but appears that we have had more of the winter precip than in recent years, but none like I recall as a kid.

Bump, anyone want to add or explain, or is this just life as we know it? Having lots of problems this early morning.

ERIC HOLDER GOES AROUND CONGRESS ON GUN CONTROL
runco replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am just tired of all of these attacks on my rights. I do think its a deflector of the true serious problem we face, the national debt. What would be the headlines if guns, immigration, and Hagel were not in the current headlines? -
1 Year Post SHTF Event, Now What With Reloading With No Supplies
runco replied to runco's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Thanks. Two questions, obviously I would assume childs cap gun caps are not available, do you have another idea? 2nd, no active volcanoes in Tennessee, you obviously don't read all all of the posts here on TGO. Just kidding, my uncle and his wife have ground well water in Sevier Co, their water smells like rotton eggs, obviously sulpher. I onced stayed there and after taking a shower, you still stink. They eventually bought a professional filtering system. However, the filtering system clogs very often with powderly stuff. Now I am not a geologist or a volcanologist, I am a qualified non-degreed bovinefecesologist, anyway, I seriously thought that maybe the filtered residue was sulpher? However, it still could be just resiude from hard water, various minerals and whatnot. I thought I read somewhere years ago, during the civil war, saltpeter was heavily sought after by the South, and in Sevier County, Alum Cave, was once mined for saltpeter. So where did the South obtain sulpher? Just courious now. -
Welcome you lurker. Engineer by trade, hmmmm, more like BS'er by trade. I know this guy, he is a good one. Look forward to your opinions and thoughts.

1 Year Post SHTF Event, Now What With Reloading With No Supplies

LOL, I suppose the internet will be down and cell phones don't work. How will we know which gun show you are at for those billions of primmers and powder? -

runco replied to runco's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Thanks, do you have any diagrams or resources to illustate this, I am not sure I am following or know your nomlenclature. Yea, I failed to mention powder, but I assume I would have to find the classic materials saltpeter (potassium nitrate), sulpher and make my own charcoal. I understand East Tenn. use to be mined for the saltpeter, so I know its around here some where. -
This is an interesting post, and intriguing. What if you could buy property that extends on both sides of the state line, you could build a show room on the line. I would assume you would have to have two FFL licenses, one for each state, but I think that would be cool. You would have to have two bound books and two inventories, and maybe duct tape across the floow to seperate the line. Otherwise, unless the property is litterally on the state line, I would think which county (not city) where you apply for your business license would be the litmus test on which state you must declare your business in.

True story, this actually came to me in a dream last night, in which I do not have accurate answers for. Suppose its +1 year after the big SHTF event, the thousands of rounds of ammo I had saved up along with reloading supplies, were spent or used for its intended purpose and/or was bartered for food, medicine, goods, etc. Suppose I have no lead for casting new bullets, or have any more unspent primers. What proven alternatives or work arounds are they if none of these are available? Can I melt pennies or copper wire for cast bullets? I know about wheel weights, but can I use lead from car batteries in desperation? Is there a way to re-use primers or make new alternatives? In my dream I used pennies for bullets, but I awoke before I figured out the primer issue. BTW in my dream, I traded ammo for food/goods, + the other party had to trade in spent brass. Wow, 1st time ever dreaming a future event. Wow not sure this was a vision or just reading to many posts? Or I used dirty water in my CPAP machine again. Seriously, the casting bullets question and primers, what are the viable solutions.

Outstanding, I wonder why this is not the lead story on the national news this evening?

Be careful, I seen this Bulletin the other day on the local news. Two men are lost in East Tennessee, they too are likely looking for heat. They have a fondess of hog phonics. Here is a photo of the two men: http://

I have some in-laws that use to swear by CPAs, nothing wrong with CPAs, everyone has to eat. About 5 years ago, for kicks and giggles, I did my in-laws taxes after they had been to the ole trusty CPA; the refund was precisely the same. In the long run, I have saved them considerable amount of money. Now doing taxes yourself is not for everyone, however I am not intimidated by the government, and I can read up on taxes myself if the trusty store bought software doesn't suit my needs. Yes it takes time, but my time is free. Just my 2 cents. I am an extreme eccentric about avoiding services of any kind, likely less than 0.1% of the populous. If I could write my own Rx, and cut my own hair (at least prestenable), I would avoid doctor and barber visits too!

$1 Store or Dollar Tree usually has H&R Brock. We have already bought ours for 2012 taxes. You have to pay extra for quick refunds. I usually do about 4 families on this software, and file the old way by mail. For $1, you can't beat this. I do have complicated taxes too. I don't use plumbers, repair men, and I definitely do not use CPAs. My money is more precious too me, so I can splurge on my hobby!

From my experience 38 is the best for some women, usually the hammerless kind. Semi autos are tough to the rack the slide for some women.

Issue for me. My two boys who are active will retire from the organization. -
My dad has close to 40+ single shot bolt action rifles, he collects them. Old Remingtons, Winchesters, and Mossbergs, to him, those are the great rifles of the 1940s and 1950s. I think his favorite is the Winchester 69A. According to him, most gallery guns were shot to extensively, and have very little rifling left, and are no longer accurate.

Congress Sends Letter to Obama Regarding Gun Control.
runco replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Thanks for posting too, my representative, Honerable Mr. Duncan did sign! -
Keep the humidty in the safe at 40-50% optimum at all times. Regarding easiest to steal, likely so, I would recommend if this is the only location that makes sense to you to where to place your safe, you might want to at least camoflage it, i.e. build a wall around it then blends with the interior of your garage so to lesson the neon light pointing I have a gun safe each time your garage door is open.
-
Lumber_Jack, I read that you were going to place the safe in your garage. Is your garaged cooled/heated? If not, you will run a high risk of corrision on your guns if you do not take precautions.

I like that. I for one, have not had a return of overpaid money to the government in 15+ years. I don't like the idea of giving the government a interest free loan. I would rather pay, then receive a check. I know some are not that disciplined with their money, but I always have been.
